Jay Carney
White House

Check out this video (via). More info below...

--
This is not the first time Carney's love for GBV has surfaced, though it may be the first time he mistook a senator for one of their members on live TV. Back in March the NY Times wrote:

Mr. Carney is not so silent in another way. He is the lead singer of a band -- a hobby and a passion second only to his devotion to the cult band Guided by Voices. As for any tapes of Mr. Carney actually singing, Mr. Attie joked, "The tapes can't be revealed because Jay is an assistant to the president and they might be used for blackmail." Anyway, he said, "There are a missing 18 minutes."

Hah! He's still a huge tool, but a huge tool who likes GBV is better than one who doesn't.

Jim Carney actually played farfisa and did back up vocals on the third Tobin Sprout solo album and put out that 7" with Bob Pollard under the name Fulltime Gleaming.

2:33, I disagree. Huge tools that love Guided By Voices ruined those reunion shows. It was like a date-rape convention up in there.

Finally, after years of both boorish old fuddy-duddies and old boomers, all extoling the virtues of the ballroom crooners and the 60s and 70s music dinosaurs, we have someone inside the beltway who can name drop music from the past 20 years.

Imagine if he would have said something like Bad Brains, The Misfits, Replacements or Gun Club, etc. THAT would have been AMAZING.

(Hey, I like a lot of 'older' music-but enough already, there's OTHER bands to mention!)

Now it all makes sense. Always wondered who Pollard was referring to when he sang about coming into town with the giggling faggots.
