"Heard Zomby's plane actually TOUCHED DOWN and he is actually in USA.
Meaning tomorrow is his first US gig EVER tomorrow?
am I wrong? STOKED." - True Panther Sounds

UK producer Zomby, Nguzunguzu, and others play an invite-only party tonight (7/18) at Angel Orensanz at 172 Norfolk Street in Manhattan. The show is part of the Capsule Trade Show which happens today and tomorrow in NYC. Zomby reportedly plays from 11:30 PM to 1 AM. We're giving a pair of tickets for entry to the private show. Details on how to enter below.

Zomby recently spoke to Self-Titled Mag about his recently released LP Dedication.

There's a really natural pop sensibility to your new record, for sure.

That's right, really. I would like to take the journey of Zomby to a larger audience now without sacrificing any integrity. I feel I've covered a lot of areas artists wouldn't reach...I try to write on the edge, to be honest. Once music is discovered as a style, it loses its charm. So I try work in the middle ground where the songs often ripen a year later. Like a lot of the work just ripening now was written two or three years ago.

I love the classical influence on your new record. Are you actually playing the piano on it?

Yeah, I love the piano. It's the closest I can get to the music, like I can nearly be absorbed by it

One thing i'm curious about is the lyrical side of your music. A lot of this album is so emotional. I wonder if you went into certain songs trying to react to certain things in your personal life. Or maybe you just sit down and that's what came out.

It's just what comes out, yeah. Sometimes I want vocals and can't get them; sometimes I can and don't want them. If the timing's right and the song fits, it's good. The song with Panda Bear ("Things Fall Apart") was a treat for me. I love his music and Animal Collective, and I thought the song came out really well. It's exactly what I go for in music--slightly edgy, uncomfortable, warm and coherent at the same time.

You can download the Panda Bear track above if you don't have it already. Dedication was released via 4AD last week.

Nguzunguzu were originally scheduled to open for Gang Gang Dance in DC tonight, but must have taken this Angel Orensanz gig instead. They resume their tour with GGD in Baltimore on Tuesday, but do not open for GGD on the Rocks Off Boat Thursday. Bubbles, who also open tonight in DC, open the boat show which is still on sale.

Nguzunguzu play Thursday (7/21) at Santos Party House with Death Grips, Traxman, and others.

No word on whether Zomby will play a public NYC show before October.

"Where were you in '92" was such a fun, nostalgic album. I can't wait to hear the new one.

An invite-only party at some place on a street in Manhattan I've never heard of, starting at almost midnight on a Monday.

I echo the 1st comment.

Zomby played The Roxy in LA last year with Joker at a Scion dubstep event. He was scheduled to play Plan B in NYC the day before, and was in town, but refused to leave his hotel room a few block away.

hows he gonna leave the hotel room with that stupid mask on?

Posted by Anonymous | July 18, 2011 11:03 AM

The same way I leave my parents' basement with my Darth Vader mask on.

I was at that Roxy show. He actually grabbed his champagne and marched off stage early because his show went THAT bad.

Hard close at 1 at the venue. If zomby is still playing at 1 they will turn off his audio equipment.
