Blouse

Portland's dreamy trio Blouse are playing their first NYC show at Glasslands on September 15, opening for Unkown Mortal Orchestra. (Woven Bones and Man/Miracle also play.) It's their only NYC show too, though others may be added?

Blouse currently have singles out on Sub Pop and Captured Tracks. The latter will be putting out their debut album this fall and like a lot of C/T bands, Blouse channel the John Hughes '80s: icy synths, moody basslines, delay-pedal guitars and big catchy choruses. You can stream a few songs at the bottom of this post.

Enough with the stupid band names that are nothing but a single noun chosen randomly from the dictionary. a few years ago, people were complaining about all of the "The" bands: The hives, The strokes, The killers. This is way more annoying.

"I love lamp"

I read "dreamy trio" and I had hopes of somewhere between MBV, Portishead and Mazzy Star (with a little dash of G500). High hopes, dashed on the rocks as soon as I hit play on the embedded player. This is garden variety hipster crap. Really disappointing, as I like me some true dream pop.

start your own band and name it whatever the fuck you want.

^ oops, the Thought Police are back.

Hey Kansas City, no more sharing your thoughts 'round here ... unless they align with 4:29's

Posted by Anonymous | August 22, 2011 4:37 PM

they should call themselves 'pedestrian.'

Posted by Anonymous | August 22, 2011 4:42 PM

thank you, 4:29

Posted by Anonymous | August 22, 2011 4:44 PM

i like this band

Posted by Anonymous | August 22, 2011 4:51 PM

Not sure if four dates in Portland & one in NYC is technically a tour.

Posted by streetdude | August 22, 2011 4:52 PM

nobody's gonna go to this

Posted by Anonymous | August 22, 2011 4:59 PM

The guy that disses bands by calling them "pedestrian" is back too.

Posted by Anonymous | August 22, 2011 5:06 PM

Pedestrian is kind of a douchey way to describe bands. I need a name for pop that's so incompetently crafted that stupid people think it's edgy indie music instead of just shit. Because the last ten years have totally been the decade of whatever that word would be.

At least name your band.."Game...Blouses"

I love a nice blouse to wear with my ridiculously skinny pants, it accentuates my ironic mustachio.

5.20: "single-use" (arguably "no-use")

Also akin to a square puzzle piece, fits any-old-place without causing much of a fuss.

Posted by Anonymous | August 22, 2011 5:28 PM

I'm not "pedestrian" boy, but I do think that it is an apt description for music that is so run of the mill, so garden variety, that it might fit in well being heard in airport scenes of GEICO commercials.

Posted by Anonymous | August 22, 2011 5:35 PM

do i have to go their "pad" in PDX to see them? that photo is just soooooooooooooo dreamy and mod an hip

Posted by Anonymous | August 22, 2011 5:37 PM

Little mini cards on the glass tray? Really? Real dream pop-ers would have that joint piled with ganja and yayo. Portland Posers.

Posted by Anonymous | August 22, 2011 5:56 PM

Nah, the term "pedestrian" when used to describe music says more about the speaker than it does the band. It's pretentious and lazy. Got any Grey Poupon?

Posted by Anonymous | August 22, 2011 5:57 PM

is that fat mac?

Posted by Anonymous | August 22, 2011 6:00 PM

I see your point, 5:35. I just think the term is a lazy cop-out in the context of a music geek site like this. After 20+ years of being deeply immersed in music, a lot of stuff sounds very pedestrian to me for the simple reason that all the band's influences stick out like sore thumbs, but I'd feel like kind of a tool for shitting on the enthusiasm of someone younger who finds a particular band fresh or interesting.

for whatever reason i could see the dude on the left dating frohawk.

Posted by Anonymous | August 22, 2011 6:52 PM

C/T is the new 4AD

Posted by Anonymous | August 22, 2011 7:25 PM

Hey 5:57, project much? You don't have to answer that; it's a rhetorical question.

Posted by Anonymous | August 22, 2011 8:07 PM

blouse it's the shit give them some time you'll see

Posted by Anonymous | August 22, 2011 8:21 PM

5:57 and 6:08 have definitely sent resume's to Pitchfork.

Posted by Anonymous | August 22, 2011 9:47 PM

Blowse

Posted by Anonymous | August 22, 2011 10:20 PM

fat music?

Posted by Anonymous | August 23, 2011 1:09 AM

It sucks when you get an olive oil stain on your blouse. Last night my best friend Betty had a major hummus incident and it ruined her night.

Just finished reading Hinter's "Flutes of Fire". I'd been reading a chapter or so a day. Good read.

Posted by Satisfied Sally | August 23, 2011 3:31 AM

I hate when t-shirts stretch out at the bottom and get all "Blousey".

Posted by Anonymous | August 23, 2011 3:47 AM

Instead of pedestrian try saying clown shit. mmmmkay?

Posted by Anonymous | August 23, 2011 3:48 AM

Posted by Anonymous | August 23, 2011 10:50 AM

BrooklynVegan trollers,

i have considered your comments and views and i still think they should change their name to 'pedestrian.'

Posted by Anonymous | August 23, 2011 11:13 AM

You're so clever.

Posted by Anonymous | August 23, 2011 12:17 PM
