Dirty Beaches at the Seaport last month (more by Jessica Amaya)
Dirty Beaches

One man rockabilly-via-Suicide act Dirty Beaches (aka Alex Zhang Hungtai) and Frankie Rose last teamed up earlier this year at Bowery Ballroom. They're now set to go on a tour together that includes an opening slot on Peter Hook's tour in Toronto on September 24. They won't be on Peter's NYC date when he and his band perform Closer at Irving Plaza (9/13), but they do have two of their own NYC shows happening September 17 at Glasslands and September 20 at Mercury Lounge. Tickets for the Glasslands show go on sale Friday (8/5) at 7 AM and tickets for the Mercury show go on sale Friday (8/5) at noon with an AmEx pre-sale starting Wednesday (8/3) at noon. All dates are listed below.

Frankie Rose recently contributed her take on "Soma" to Stereogum's Stroked: A Tribute to Is This It. She said of her contribution:

"To be honest this was the first time had ever actually sat down and listened to the strokes! Maybe that sounds crazy like I have been living in a bush or something, but true! The trick was how best to make the song my own. I decided slowing it down and taking out some of the garage elements might be interesting. Adding a synth was helpful. The harmonies keep the chorus moving forward like the original, and yet totally different. Take note, there is a little homage in the guitar at the end. Can you guess for whom?"
Any guesses? All dates and a video below...

i am the biggest hater around here, trust me, but i actually LIKE dirty beaches. the name is real bad though. as for frankie rose, she is EX-vivian girls? that's like lower than D-list. why is she even continuing on making music? wouldn't she have "made" it by now, at this point in time in her career? if i was her career guidance counselor, i would tell him or her (whatever) to pursue other avenues in life than music. thank you, goodnight.

is it just me or are the vivan girls extremely boring, untalented, and oh so very ugly?

Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2011 2:29 PM

^ no, it isn't just you. i would say that you are correct in that both you and perhaps some of the vivian girls fit those three qualifiers.
