Disma
Disma

Disma headlined Saint Vitus on a rainy Saturday night (8/6) in Greenpoint. They were celebrating the release of Towards The Megalith, their debut LP out which is now via Profound Lore Records. The show, which originally featured an exclusive Northeastern appearance from Loss, instead saw opening performances Coffinworm (who ripped), Unearthly Trance (back from the live-grave!), and Baltimore's Oak (fantastic). Pictures and video are in this post, including virtually all of Disma and Unearthly Trance's sets, a new/unreleased Coffinworm track ("Instant Death Syndrome"), and footage from the dimly-lit Oak set.

Coffinworm
Coffinworm

The show was one of only two Coffinworm shows on the East Coast, Disma's only NYC date, Unearthly Trance's first NYC date in more than six months, and was one of two Oak dates in two days. They also played Stolen Sleeves on Friday (8/5) with Convulsions and Grudges (who also play The Acheron on 8/28 with Victims).

We interviewed Daryl Kahan of Disma before the show. Check that out if you missed it.

More pictures, the videos and the Disma/Unearthly Trance set lists from Saint Vitus, below...

Another hillbilly hoedown at The Sausage Factory.

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 8:05 AM

This was a killer show!

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 8:06 AM

One thing that might be a female and the rest is sausage.

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 8:13 AM

Excuse me sir... how much for that human skull??

Posted by Haxan | August 9, 2011 9:38 AM

Looking forward to all the upcoming douchey comments on this. C'mon hipsters! Don't disappoint!

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 10:01 AM

St. Vitus needs to just re-brand itself as an alternative alternative lifestyle gay bar.

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 10:04 AM

If someone wears a white t-shirt do they get kicked out of the band?

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 10:06 AM

These kids must have got their ass kicked in high school on the reg. What a depressing scene.

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 10:10 AM

Snarksters vs metalheads 2011!!

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 10:15 AM

This was on a Saturday night? lulz...

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 10:15 AM

10:04: Why? Don't you hipsters have enough gay bars to go to already? Or is Chelsea too far away?

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 10:44 AM

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 11:05 AM

Show on the 28th is with victims, not ringworm.

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 11:09 AM

there are once again NO WOMEN in the audience. What's with you weirdos?

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 11:12 AM

Hey sausage dude, there were women at the show.

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 11:24 AM

same old story, you say there were women at the shows, but the pics say otherwise.

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 11:32 AM

so what % of a show's audience must be female to satisfy the BV commentariat?

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 11:34 AM

^from the pics it doesn't even look like you dudes are at 1%

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 11:38 AM

My rule of thumb? If you have to hunt for women that means you don't know what the fuck you're doing in the first place.

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 11:45 AM

You mean from the pic, since there is only one of the audience and it's a shot of the moshpit.

Anyway, Coffinworm killed it.

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 11:54 AM

^you haven't considered, even for a moment, that there is something extremely weird about this culture/music that it apparently turns off every member of 51% percent of the population. There are probably numerous reasons for this, and trust me, none of them are cool.

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 11:56 AM

Posting some asshole comments on shows that we are far to cool to attend? good idea! What killer music taste you guys have?

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 11:59 AM

Does one women in the mosh pit count for ten regular women at a show? Because maybe it should.

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 12:02 PM

but posting about it in every single metal post is somehow better? what a joker. stop crying. get over yourself.
usually girls stand in the back at metal shows. makes sense. if that makes you feel good about yourself. good for you. you must be so proud to wake up every day and attempt to insult a group of people that would laugh in you face if you said this crap in person.

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 12:03 PM

everyone knows that the ladies just like to dance. try doing that to psychedelic doom metal! i dare you. this is why you are much more likely to find them and their neon-clad male friends gettin' down to a couple emaciated dorks hunched over laptops.

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 12:08 PM

I think from some of your comments I can see why the ladies might not be so interested in this scene. Ditto the fake machismo present in a lot of hardcore and metal shows. While I don't think it's misogyny per se, it does almost feel like a boy's club, full of socially awkward dudes, who might be a little afraid of women.

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 12:11 PM

Your perception is wrong. Most have girlfriends and wives.

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 12:17 PM

all the negative comments... what kind of music do you guys listen to?

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 12:25 PM

As a woman who was at the show, I have several things to say:
1) Hah! - to all the hating. Seriously?

2) I have been going to hardcore, punk, metal, etc. traditionally "male-dominated" shows for YEARS (I'm an angry lady), and if there is any group of people that are NOT socially awkward or afraid of women, it's metal dudes. It's lovely.

3) I would never consider any of the above genres to be misogynistic in nature. Their songs are never about subjugating women, and there are plenty of females in bands of all those genres. Sure, they are still in the minority, but as someone pointed out, what % of women do you want participating so you feel less "weird"?

4) Metal doesn't attract a lot of women (solely IMO) because not a lot of women relate to the guttural screaming or depth of dark and angry emotion that goes on in some of the music - particularly doom/death metal. Some of us do. Some of us don't have a lot of female friends because we like screaming and don't like having sleepover parties and shopping.

I'd like to know what other ladies have to say about why there aren't more women at these shows.

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 12:26 PM

There was a ton of women @ the show... didn't you see the pics of your mother choking on my dick...

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 12:27 PM

12:17 that's ridiculous. Most of whom? The entire scene, all over the country? You know them all personally? It's a nonsense comment and a weak defense. I understand that a lot of the audience for this kind of music are damaged people. Runaways, sexual abuse victims, substance abusers etc. But the lack of female participation in this scene is glaring and it is a fair point to discuss.

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 12:28 PM

The last good metal show I attended was the Absurd, Grand Belial's Key in queens a few years back. 99% of the bands posted here can not touch any of those bands that played that night.

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 12:29 PM

The cool thing aboout these types of shows is that there are no AZT stands in sight :)

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 12:30 PM

"The last good metal show I attended was the Absurd, Grand Belial's Key in queens a few years back. 99% of the bands posted here can not touch any of those bands that played that night."

whoa. seig heil much? just kidding. sort of. not really. but right on, i like some NSBM too.

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 12:40 PM

What is MOST OBVIOUSLY glaring is the amount of assholes who feel compelled to comment on a show/scene they have no interest in to begin with... Making your case for misogyny in the face of such blatant misanthropy is just SO lame, and honestly really pathetic.

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 12:41 PM

Ok this is getting absurd.

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 12:45 PM

sausage is as sausage does

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 12:47 PM

molested sausage lulz

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 1:23 PM

12:26 - Women be shoppin'!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 1:43 PM

Give it up! As if the assholes who comment on this site aren't overwhelmingly douchey bachelors. The only sausage party here is in your sad little bedroom.

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 2:03 PM

Who knew that love-shy men would be so filled with hate to spout out at a musical genre they don't understand or connect with.

Seriously guys, just go back to praising how whatever indie band you like "killed it" at whatever show you went to. No need to wallow in negativity over here (and you thought metal people were negative, lol!).

Enjoy life!

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 2:15 PM

I'm neutral, but the one thing I don't understand is how you metal guys always act like the guys making fun of you are just making shit up. There really are no women in any of those pictures. And in most of the other threads where there were people making fun of metal there where no women in the pictures either. It seems like a legitimate accusation.

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 2:19 PM

2:19 I agree. I'm not a metal fan, but to each his own. But it's hard to understand why the metal dudes are angry that these shows are getting called sausage fests, when they do in fact look like sausage fests.

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 2:24 PM

^ Indie-er in disguise.

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 2:25 PM

we already know what happens when metal/hardcore is made to appeal to women, its called warped tour.

Posted by nickynegative | August 9, 2011 2:35 PM

Still... Virtually every negative comment here is written by some sad jackass dude who has as much interest in the participation of women as they do the metal scene they are desparaging. The mistake here though is labeling these douchebags "hipsters". Spending an afternoon giggling at your stupid, anonymous, remarks on BV has to be about the saddest commentary and completely un-hip thing on the planet.

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 2:57 PM

you guys know shooting the messenger(s) isn't the same thing as addressing the issue right?

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 3:10 PM

You guys are fucking idiots. Who cares if females go to a metal show? Who cares what the audience is like period? I don't know about you fucks, but I go for the music. Not to pick up chicks or for it to be a social event.

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 3:11 PM

Lol it's been like this forever. It's a male dominated genre, and yes it is a sausage fest, but last time i checked shows were about the music.

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 3:13 PM

"The mistake here though is labeling these douchebags "hipsters""

That's why you call them trendies instead :)

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 3:23 PM

Um, as a girl who was a the show...there were a ton of women. At least 7 or 8 I know personally and I don't even live in NY. What the hell is wrong with you people making that assumption from ONE crowd shot?? I sincerely I hope you guys are trolling. You have to BE at a show like this to know what it's like, not look at pictures.

And even if there weren't girls, why is that a problem? This nonsense about it being an underlying issue is an insult to common sense. Most women are not inclined towards it, whatever. Not everyone's saturday night goals revolve around going somewhere they could potentially get laid.

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 4:27 PM

Hey! Those ARE nice photos of the show! Greg C does it again!

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 6:27 PM

^ Exactly, and in reality it's just a couple of hapless dudes with absolutely nothing going on stirring up some shit.

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 6:30 PM

Fuck all your pussy comments - these bands will crush your dreams into dark realities - your life as robots and non productive energy will be lost once your dead and your soul is forever gone only your miserable family and pathetic friends to remember - these bands leave years and years, moons and moons of endless bliss for ears.....

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 7:48 PM

^lulz king sausage

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 7:50 PM

To everyone that forgot by responding to the sausage posts:

DON'T FEED THE TROLLS

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2011 8:51 PM

What's with this assumption that the only reason people want girls around at a show is to get laid? Are you saying that's all women are good for? Isn't that kind of sexist? You might be female, 4:27, but you're still a misogynist like the rest of your sausage brethren.

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2011 2:34 AM

@12:28: "I understand that a lot of the audience for this kind of music are damaged people. Runaways, sexual abuse victims, substance abusers etc."

WTF?! We're not talking about people in the sex industry here! It's fucking music!

Do you feel the same way about people who watch horror movies or watch CSI shows?

Is your life all flowers and fucking rainbows?! Jesus fucking Christ!

Maybe we should all live in a fucking communist idealistic society where Delicate Steve plays the Williamsburg waterfront everyday and we wake up at 2pm and hang out with our smelly jobless friends at Berry Park beer garden every night.

WHAT THE FUCK???!! And the HOMOPHOBIA comments are hilarious!
These close minded hipsters are the ones calling the metal fans gay! What's wrong with being GAY???? Again, it's fucking music you close minded fucks!

Fucking Fun police patrolling the BV message boards. Kill yourselves. Please you miserable fucks, stick it to your horrible rent paying non understanding parents and kill yourselves.

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2011 3:28 AM

^ No worries. The AIDS will kill them first (the hipsters I mean).

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2011 10:56 AM

Hipsters- you must got nikes on your lips they way you run your mouth

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2011 4:27 PM

Why do you assume I'm a hipster? Maybe I'm just a regular person with discerning taste in music. I mean, you listen to metal, but I don't assume you rape goats

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2011 6:30 PM

nope, not a hipster - I guarantee you're a silly nebbish who sits on his computer and whose mother thinks he's awfully clever is more like it.
