Kanye West in Sweden
Way Out West

I caught Kanye West's 2+ hour headlining set at the Way Out West Festival in Gothenburg, Sweden on Saturday night, one night after I saw Prince play a 2+ hour set on the same stage, surprise cameo by Kanye included (Prince did not return the favor).

Without comparing setlists, as far as I could tell from memory, Kanye's set in Sweden was the basically the same set he did at Coachella minus Justin Vernon on guest vocals. Everything else was similar - the show starting with Kanye on a ladder in the middle of the crowd, the backdrop, the ballet dancers, the white sheet that covers them towards the end, the costume changes, and even a short appearance by Pusha T during "Runaway" (seriously though, Pusha T went all the way to Sweden for 20 seconds on stage?). Pictures from the epic production are in this post.

Jay Z & Kanye West have added new dates to their upcoming tour in support of the recently released Watch the Throne. The previously announced dates include November 5 and 6 at Izod Center which are now sold out. The new announcement includes another NYC area date (sort of) on November 11 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ. Tickets go on sale Friday (8/19) at 10 AM with a Watch the Throne and VIP presale starting Wednesday (8/17) at 10 AM.

Watch the Throne came out digitally last week and has since broken the US iTunes record for first week sales. The album was released physically on Friday (8/12). You can purchase that on Amazon.

In semi-related news, Beyonce's four-night run at Roseland Ballroom continues tonight (8/16). if you want to learn more about the shows, there's a dedicated Wikipedia page.

Updated Throne dates, more pictures from Sweden, and the video for "Otis" below...

"Prince did not return the favor" Sounds like something Frohawk would say after a night of partying- awesome.

WHERE MSG AT

Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2011 8:24 PM

Prince doesn't have to return the favor. He's Prince.

Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2011 8:30 PM

Actually Prince did Kanye the favor by letting him get on his stage.

Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2011 8:30 PM

MSG isn't going to be added now. If they add MSG now, it will drive down the value of the NJ shows on the secondary market.

Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2011 8:32 PM

Good for Sweden. They can keep Kanye.

Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2011 8:42 PM

I will take any Kanye album over the last 35 Prince albums

Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2011 8:52 PM

O Kanye, you're every ugly girl's fantasy of being the prettiest girl at the dance. Can't knock the hustle, but still doesn't work for me...

Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2011 8:54 PM

8:52 - One of the differences between Kanye and Prince, is that Prince puts out everything he does. If he takes a shit, he records it. But he's still 10x the genius that Kanye will ever be. And as much of an egomaniac as Kanye is, he'd probably tell you the same thing. He is not fit to shine Prince's boots.

Frohawk eat your heart out...

is there something about hip hop that makes men constantly feel the need to make sure their penis is still there?

Anthony Michael Hall hasn't aged one bit since the Breakfast Club.

9:04 that is naturally hilarious. but for contrived hilarity check out:

yeezy stays coming wit the unintentional comedy, i'll give him that much.

Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2011 9:26 PM

What a pretentious jackass. Can't he just get on a mic and rock a show, without all that bullshit on the stage?

Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2011 9:34 PM

JUST LISTEN TO THE MUSIC PEOPLE. IT'S AN AMAZING ALBUM!

Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2011 9:35 PM

The first few tracks are pretty hot. But it goes downhill from there. And he's still a pretentious jackass.

Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2011 9:37 PM

9:35, he raps over other people's work. How is that Great?

Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2011 9:46 PM

When Kool Herc created hiphop almost 40 years ago, he didn't envision this pompous bullshit.

Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2011 9:49 PM

ok for realz now-whens msg getting added? no way they dont add msg.

Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2011 9:51 PM

They'll add MSG eventually. Just not now. Probably not for a while. They need to make scalping money first off the NJ shows.

Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2011 9:54 PM

He likes hummus.

Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2011 9:59 PM

Frohwak > Kanye

Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2011 10:01 PM

Throne=Toilet

Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2011 10:36 PM

Frohawk should teach Kanye how to live properly in the spotlight.

Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2011 10:48 PM

People still care about Kanye?

Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2011 11:19 PM

actually ‎Afrika Bambaataa created hip hop

Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2011 11:27 PM

10:48 word up. Frohwak could teach Kanye a thing or two about class

Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2011 11:28 PM

Posted by Anonymous | August 17, 2011 2:07 AM

I watched Kanye West once suck a dude's dick. Straight up suck a DUDE'S DICK! Shit was HOT!

Posted by Anonymous | August 17, 2011 3:26 AM

11:27, do your research. Although ‎Afrika Bambaataa was one of the pioneers, Kool Herc created hiphop.

Posted by Anonymous | August 17, 2011 6:43 AM

MSG is undergoing renovation, hence the NJ dates.

Posted by Anonymous | August 17, 2011 8:24 AM

pre-sale password?

Posted by jon | August 17, 2011 8:27 AM

MSG will likely be done with renovation by then. Foo Fighters are playing there on November 13th.

Posted by Anonymous | August 17, 2011 9:01 AM

The dates were originally scheduled in NJ because they were supposed to play in September (when MSG would still be undergoing renovation). As for MSG dates, they could possibly still happen right after the NJ dates, but they could realistically wait until mid-October to put those on sale; if they add MSG now, the demand for NJ shows on the secondary market will go down, and they will be losing out on good scalping money.

Posted by Anonymous | August 17, 2011 9:13 AM

For those of you arguing, everyone knows Public Enemy started hip hop.

Posted by Anonymous | August 17, 2011 9:23 AM

6:43, if KRS1 says Bambaataa created hip hop then you gotta believe it.

Posted by Anonymous | August 17, 2011 9:46 AM

9:41 holy shit....sweet frohawk pic....where did that come from?

how dumb do you have to be to pay whatever Kanye is charging for tickets to his 'concert'? I mean really, you have to be the dumbest consumerist asshole walking. Frohawk's got it right....Kanye = North American Scum

Posted by Anonymous | August 17, 2011 10:59 AM

Kraftwerk created hip hop

Posted by salvatore | August 17, 2011 11:45 AM

Looks like a dope show. Love him or hate him, he's elevating the live Rap show to heights unimaginable not too long ago.

Posted by Anonymous | August 17, 2011 12:46 PM

"looks like a lot of white people"

Dude. It's Sweden.

Posted by streetdude | August 17, 2011 2:08 PM

Kanye a bitch yo
He like it on th down low
Right up the culo
Got beats as dope as Jello
pudding

Posted by Anonymous | August 17, 2011 2:15 PM

12:46, this is not what hiphop is all about. This stage show is some pompous overblown b.s. I'd rather see someone spit some rhymes and get the crowd going without all that nonsense. If I want ballet dancers and lights and explosions, I'll go see a Broadway show.

Posted by Anonymous | August 17, 2011 3:10 PM

reminds me of the masturbating bear

Posted by Anonymous | August 17, 2011 6:52 PM

Kanye is sort of like 4 day old hummus... It ain't bad, but you are hesitant to eat it.

Posted by Anonymous | August 17, 2011 11:37 PM

Kanye digs show tunes yo
