Wildflower

Petty Fest is returning to NYC this October, though unlike previous years, this year there will be "Two Nights To Get Drunk And Celebrate The Songs Of Tom Petty." The fest is taking place October 5 at Music Hall of Williamsburg and October 6 at Bowery Ballroom. The fest is (almost) the same lineup of musicians that usually get together for things like this, like Norah Jones, Nicole Atkins, Jesse Malin, Sammy James Jr. (The Mooney Suzuki), Jody Porter (Fountains of Wayne), Tad Kubler of The Hold Steady, Josh Lattanzi of The Lemonheads, and others. Interesting additions inclue Har Mar Superstar and Jonny Corndawg. I hope they do a duet. And of course there will be "surprise guests". Tickets for both nights go on sale Thursday (9/1) at noon with an AmEx presale starting Wednesday (8/31) at noon. $2 from each ticket will be donated to Doctors Without Borders.

Jonny Corndawg meanwhile will also be in NYC TONIGHT (8/30) for his record release show at Union Pool.

Full Petty Fest lineup, flier, and a recent video of Neko Case and My Morning Jacket covering "Stop Dragging My Heart Around" together, below...

Boycott Bowery. Do not let your music be monopolized.

Posted by me | August 30, 2011 6:28 PM

5:50 that's the proof you need, common...
thought that was a given by now.

let us all pray they won't let justin short, sorry, justin long go on stage like they did at dylan fest. i still don't feel very well ever since.

Posted by me | August 30, 2011 6:30 PM

dylan fest was just a good time. get drunk. dont give a shit. yell along w the lyrics. a welcome respite from the standing-arms-crossed-head-nodding of the hipsters.

yeah im old. and get the fuck off my lawn.

Posted by Anonymous | August 30, 2011 6:56 PM

this would only be cool if the special guest was petty himself. but he would never associate with these hipster dorks.

also, norah jones? go back to making adult contemporary jams for my mom to enjoy.

These shows are a blast. Haters, you should try it. last year's petty fest was a lot of fun. Actually, the last 3 years of petty fest have been great (from what i remember). its a night to party to some of the best songs around.

Posted by Anonymous | August 30, 2011 7:07 PM

7:00 even your Mom does not enjoy Norah Jones' music. give your mom more credit than that. if i meet you at a Williamsburg or Bushwick bar, I am so NOT buying you a PBR simply cuz of that slam

3rd rate Americana interpreted by reject-wannabe hipsters. Brilliant!

Posted by Anonymous | August 30, 2011 7:52 PM

7:07 is obviously promoting these gigs

who else would go to something like this 3 years in a row?

Posted by Anonymous | August 30, 2011 8:37 PM

haha yeah, who goes to shit like this?

Posted by Anonymous | August 30, 2011 11:29 PM

Hell yeah! This fest is gonna be cracker jack!

Posted by Anonymous | August 31, 2011 12:44 AM

Yeah, you're right, Tom Petty hasn't written maybe 20 of the greatest songs of the past 35 years. Who'd want to hear that.

Posted by Anonymous | August 31, 2011 1:03 AM

Now that's what I call... MUUUUSIC

It's hysterical how you losers think you can label the people who go to this as "hipsters" at the same time as ripping on Tom Petty and pretending you are too cool to get drunk with some good musicians (sans Norah Jones) and celebrate this music.

Hipsters can't go to this because -- wait for it -- we actually have FUN at these parties.

Posted by Anonymous | August 31, 2011 9:07 AM

tom petty sucks

Posted by Anonymous | August 31, 2011 9:25 AM

poor 8:26

has convinced himself he is actually cool, and that people actually enjoy his company

Posted by Anonymous | August 31, 2011 9:33 AM

Tom Petty is pretty solid. Hard Promises is a great album, Full Moon, Wildflowers too were solid. Long live Petty!

Posted by Anonymous | August 31, 2011 9:41 AM

9:33, unlike you, I don't worry about trying to appear "cool" and therefore don't have to do extensive research whether or not attending an event will damage my "indie cred."

Get the fuck out of New York.

Posted by Anonymous | August 31, 2011 9:56 AM

I love Tom Petty, but good christ is that a lousy tattoo.

Posted by Anonymous | September 1, 2011 8:07 PM
