TV On The Radio

TV On The Radio played a five song set in a parking lot in NoHo yesterday evening. The popup show, high up on a riser in front of a billboard, was being filmed and was sponsored by Heineken. Most of the setlist, and more pictures below...

who??

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 10:27 AM

So how much do you think Heineken paid them to do this?

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 10:28 AM

shilling for Heineken is fucking lame

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 10:29 AM

future commercial, perhaps???

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 10:29 AM

wait... since when did TV on the Radio let all of these people in the band? And why do they look so confused, like they don't know what to do?

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 10:31 AM

i'll say it again. wrong demographic Heineken. only black people who don't know better drink it, or b&t euro trash ravers do.

better off getting wiz khalifa or some neo-soul act or international DJ.

Posted by freddy mercury | August 18, 2011 10:32 AM

Did frohawk get invited on stage again?

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 10:41 AM

10:28 - Money

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 10:41 AM

The second song they played was "Blues From Down Here"

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 10:42 AM

"i'll say it again. wrong demographic Heineken. only black people who don't know better drink it, or b&t euro trash ravers do."

Actually light beer drinkers seems to be the perfect demographic for TVOTR... people who get excited to watch their favorite indie bands and actors on late night shows... smh

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 10:50 AM

8th photo down (heineken light) is the best photo of the bunch.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 10:53 AM

jesus 5 songs. that sucks for anyone who took the time to go there.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 10:55 AM

What time was this?!? I must have walked right by before or after. Damn that would've been cool.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 10:55 AM

So what beer do you think is good, if you're gonna trash Heineken?

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 10:59 AM

beer is for pussies. I only drink the hard stuff.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 11:02 AM

Wait..only 5 songs? That does not even count as a show. All of the apologists on the other post saying this was a good thing for all can shutup now. TVOTR didn't do nobody no favors with this bullshit.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 11:04 AM

How soon until we see a Heineken Light ad taking up the borders on this site.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 11:04 AM

Sell-out move. And having nothing to do with Henieken but to do with playing for these vapid yipsters who continue to throw their non-earned money down on garbage, playing their fiddles while Rome burns.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 11:06 AM

Playing a free show during a poor economy? Those fucking bastards!

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 11:10 AM

For TVoTR to attach their name to fucking Heineken LIGHT is quite simply not only a sellout but a douche move at that. If you like drinking chilled piss than HL is the *beer* for you.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 11:10 AM

11:04- it was free, you insufferable twat.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 11:11 AM

11:02: I dig the way you think haha

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 11:11 AM

It's one thing if you were walking by and saw this and stopped to check it out. If you are one of those people though who went specifically to see this and then raved after that you saw a cool TVOTR concert you are pathetic. You are a loser. You should not even be reading a blog like this.

Truth Hurts

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 11:15 AM

Let's face it--there simply weren't enough pictures of Heine Light in this post.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 11:20 AM

missed it by a day

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 11:35 AM

I am going to start cutting and pasting this into every "sell-out" rant post-a-rama.

You, sir, are an idiot.

Do you think that people want to suffer for their art? They are not fucking Catholics. They are artists who are trying to make a living with their art. The reality is, in order to make money, you need to find sponsorships. I don't think that CD's and T-Shirts cover the bills, especially when a member of your band had terminal cancer.

"Dumb fuck.
I sold out long before you ever even heard my name."

Posted by Bob_Roberts | August 18, 2011 11:35 AM

my goodness, I think that I really dislike most of you

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 11:41 AM

Stickin' it to the man, 21st century style.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 11:41 AM

relax. do you really think this would cause anyone to drink heineken light? doubtful.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 11:42 AM

who are TV on the radio?

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 11:45 AM

turds

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 11:49 AM

"my goodness, I think that I really dislike most of you"

That's BV for ya, it's par for the course.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 11:49 AM

I hope all of the people that call these bands "sell outs" paid for all of the music on their computers, ipods, phones, etc.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 11:56 AM

looks fun!

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 11:57 AM

@11: 35:

I beg to differ sir. yes " artists" have a right to make a living. however if their art doesn't cut it then do something else and get a "real" job like everyone else. when one lends their tacit approval to
a shit product like HL then they should expect to be called on it.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 12:03 PM

the is disgusting. i'd never expect indie artists to do corporate shilling like this, even though licensing music for nationwide ad campaigns has become passe at this point, and tvotr have been on a major label for 5 years, this is simply TOO FAR

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 12:06 PM

I think it's nice that Heineken & TVOTR came together to create a safe place for people to stare at their phones.

Posted by streetdude | August 18, 2011 12:08 PM

Wow that crowd is on fire! I've never seen so many people that excited

Posted by Silly String | August 18, 2011 12:10 PM

12:08 FTW

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 12:12 PM

How long til Frohawk starts sponsoring shows?

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 12:22 PM

I'd let HL pay my bills in exchange for some "tacit approval". No brainer.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 12:23 PM

At the corner of Great Jones and Laffeyette... Just 4 blocks and two avenues from the mighty mamouns hummus joint on st. marks occurred a pop-up show of epic proportions. Is this a coincidence? I say nay.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 12:23 PM

You guys need to stop giving Frohawk so much attention. He is nothing but a kiss-ass wanna-be groupie.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 12:25 PM

Let Frohawk smoke
;)

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 12:27 PM

This was not a free show. This was not for the fans. They are playing on top of a scaffolding where, from the looks of it, no one can even see them. This is a blatant shoot for a commercial. I never liked TVotR's music, but this make me question their artistic integrity.

Having said that, I wasn't even aware that they sold Heineken Light in the states.

Having said that, I'd never drink that shit to begin with.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 12:30 PM

@ 12:06 PM - Being on Interscope does not make one a Indie Artist.

Posted by fortyver | August 18, 2011 12:32 PM

Can't see much TV On The Radio here. Can see a lot of Heineken though.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 12:34 PM

Milwaukees Best is a fine beer... Fine indeed.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 12:42 PM

All you HL haters don't know what you are talking. HL is an excellent product when used as intended: a room temperature anal douche.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 12:44 PM

@12:32 - Thank you. Doesn't anyone understand that TVOTR are NOT an "indie" band. They started out in the indie scene but are now a major label act that does things that major label acts do, like playing Radio City Music Hall, appearing on TV shows and yes...playing corporate sponsored events. Get over it or pay their bills your complaining selves (or at least pay for their music that you most likely downloaded for free).

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 12:45 PM

And what's with that lame occasionally perfect saying behind the band on the billboard? Man I would be so embarrassed to be playing in front of that

Posted by no likey heineken | August 18, 2011 12:47 PM

Does anybody have anything to say worth reading other then"bla bla bla $$$" "bla bla bla commercial".

Get fucked advertising pays for just about everything you interact with. Including this site.

TVOTR Selloutsystem

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 1:01 PM

@12:23:

you would give your tacit approval to eating a pile of dogshit and say it tastes good. right?

Haven't any of you idiots ever heard of the American Dream? Make money, support your family.

Fuck anyone who claims these guys are sellouts. I say do whatever it takes to make a living.

I hope the asses claiming sellout live on the street. As far as I see it, any job is selling out, so you've all sold out. Hell, I'm happy to be sitting in my cubicle making a living!

God bless America!

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 3:04 PM

@ 2:58

You hate it when someone steals your hummus or when you shit your pants?

*poop*

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 3:07 PM

2:58 - true story, I was sick of the lunch offerings by my office, so today I trekked a few extra blocks to Gristede's and bought a tub of hummus, a bag of baby carrots and a bag of Stacy's pita chips. I scarfed down about 10 oz of that hummus to the pairing of a half bag of those carrots and 3/4 bag of the pita chips. Two hours later .... baBOOM! I just blew up the spot, big time! Smelly, pasty and copious, I think I cleared out stomach, small intestine and large intestine, and maybe even one of my kidneys in the process! So, hummus is miracle food!

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 3:12 PM

I will be calmer than Heineken
Making hummus out of your dreams

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 3:15 PM

PBR is for losers with no taste buds.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 3:17 PM

Sweet photos. It's a really deep work of photo journalism and now we know what a bunch of people standing around looks like.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 3:19 PM

3:19 - haha.

**pooffffffffffffffffffffftt**

(s'cuse me)

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 4:48 PM

that pop up is almost as impressive at Kayne Wests coachella EGO ramp.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 6:10 PM

Hummus is easily digestible and shouldn't be responsible for your bathroom issue... Perhaps it was the corndog or the tequila you drank last night?

Just trying to help.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 6:27 PM

My asshole is itchy from all this bitchin. Can someone please scratch it for me? You know I cant eat the hummus frohawk made for me with an itchy balloon-knot.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 6:27 PM

2:34 beat me to it

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 6:32 PM

Can we please assemble the next 'finger fuck frohawk' PBR party already? Its long overdue

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 6:36 PM

looks gross

only corporations are allowed to stage shit like this.

if an independent "diy" group tried to get the permits, they'd be denied.

if they were somehow able to get approval, they'd be harassed to death by the nypd and fdny.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 6:37 PM

so was this a 5 song "show" or a live advertisement for a shitty beer?

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 7:52 PM

"only corporations are allowed to stage shit like this."

I saw the White Stripes do this on the edge of Union Square without any obvious corporate sponsorship. They sucked, but still.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2011 8:57 PM

Can't see TVOTR in any of these pics. Did the band play? Young Liars was mindblowing in 2003. Now it's 2012 and I can't get excited about the band. I can get excited thinking about 2003.

Posted by Regular reader | August 19, 2011 1:07 AM

Yes exactly 12:08 PM and make vapid commercials for advertising minded celebrity focused new NY yipster kids for that special NYC brand image thats pushed beyond belief. Remember kids you are at the center of the universe...for commercialism.
