The Streets, who were scheduled to play @ Terminal 5 with El-P tonight, but cancelled their tour.

It should be an interesting scene on Governors Island Saturday aka Bass Island. You can see the set times HERE. "Survival Guide" HERE. Prefuse 73 goes on 4th at 6. Then Z-Trip, then Lupe Fiasco and finally Bassnectar. Curious, but not enough to spend $50? We're giving away tickets on Facebook.

For something less brostep, Saturday also offers the next Warm Up at PS1 with Black Dice, His Name is Alive (DJ set), oOoOO, Clams Casino, Ayshay (DJ set), and Water Borders.

Nancy Whang, who you know from LCD Soundsystem, The Juan Maclean, and Shit Robot DJs at Union Pool AND Public Assembly tonight. Miho Hatori plays live at the Public Assembly show, as she does Saturday at 285 Kent with Kool Keith.

Lia Ices, who played Mercury Lounge last night (8/11) has a new video for "Love Is Won." Check it out below.

What else?

Are SY tickets still available? Can I buy at the door?

Posted by Anonymous | August 12, 2011 9:01 AM

^ Probably. I got tickets yesterday evening just to be on the safe side, but I think you should be fine.

Good thing the SY show was a backup for me to fall back on, since The Streets cancelled :(

Posted by Anonymous | August 12, 2011 9:09 AM

Nice Deerhunter is playing!!!

Oh wait...

Posted by Anonymous | August 12, 2011 9:13 AM

Wild Flag gonna upstage Sonic Youth tonight?

Posted by Anonymous | August 12, 2011 9:35 AM

There is no way Wild Flag can upstage Sonic Youth.

Posted by Anonymous | August 12, 2011 9:51 AM

So people won't be asking later....

Doors 530
Kurt Vile 630
Wild Flag 715
Sonic Youth 800 (prob will go on around 810....)

Posted by Takk | August 12, 2011 9:53 AM

What are the play times for each band at the SY show? The tickets say the doors open at 5:30pm.

Posted by Anonymous | August 12, 2011 9:53 AM

Bought a ticket yesterday at Best Buy Theater, saved $13 in Ticketmaster fees, fucking crooks. Anyone know set times please?

Posted by Anonymous | August 12, 2011 9:53 AM

What time at the Waterfront tonight? I don't want to miss the openers. That bill is pretty stacked!

Posted by Anonymous | August 12, 2011 9:57 AM

1st 9:53: Yeah, but is that confirmed?

Posted by Anonymous | August 12, 2011 9:57 AM

957am. It was posted on SY twitter couple days ago. They said it was approximate but from past Waterfront shows, it sounds about right.....expect SY like I said little after 8pm!

And they also tweeted this earlier in the week....

teaching Mark some songs we haven't played in a long time for this friday's show

woohoo!

Posted by Takk | August 12, 2011 10:01 AM

Don't miss Wild Flag kids. They're great live and their debut LP coming out next month will surely be enjoyed by SY kids;)

Posted by Anonymous | August 12, 2011 10:02 AM

the question is: do you think SY will do one of their '80s only sets, or will they actually play some newer stuff?

Posted by Anonymous | August 12, 2011 10:02 AM

1002 prob mix of old/new since 80s set they played last year was due to Mark touring with Pavement for most of the year....

Posted by Anonymous | August 12, 2011 10:11 AM

Can someone please call the venue for set times? That would really be helpful.

Posted by Anonymous | August 12, 2011 10:18 AM

SONIC FUCKING YOUTH!!!

Posted by Anonymous | August 12, 2011 10:32 AM

Takk: Thanks. I knew that Kurt Vile was 6:30, but I wasn't sure about the rest. That sounds about right.

Posted by Anonymous | August 12, 2011 10:39 AM

Ah, remember the summer of 2010 when Sonic Youth played for free at Prospect Park. Those were the days.

Posted by Anonymous | August 12, 2011 10:41 AM

So Mark is playing with them tonight?

Posted by Anonymous | August 12, 2011 10:44 AM

1018am what do you need to call the venue for? the set times are posted.

if you want to just go for SY then show up at 8? is that so hard to understand?

1044am yes mark is playing with them tonight.

Posted by Anonymous | August 12, 2011 10:47 AM

Markey Ramone with Sonic Youth?!?!?! Fuckin' Aye!

Posted by Anonymous | August 12, 2011 10:47 AM

^haha

Posted by Anonymous | August 12, 2011 10:53 AM

Mark looks like Eddie Munster, and I think that he smells like soup.

Posted by Anonymous | August 12, 2011 10:57 AM

What are the odds of seeing Frohawk at either Wild Flag or Nancy Whang?

Posted by Anonymous | August 12, 2011 12:03 PM

i'm sure frohawk will be at Nancy Whang. the waterfront lineup is a little too guitar-heavy for his taste

Posted by Anonymous | August 12, 2011 12:12 PM

1203 What are the odds that....
1) you should just ask him out a date
2) we don't give a shit about Frohawk

Posted by Anonymous | August 12, 2011 12:21 PM

I need one ticket for SY Waterfront tonight. If you've got one post it up on Craig's List with the Title "Free Hummus - $420" and we can talk.

Seriously, I need one.

Posted by Anonymous | August 12, 2011 12:28 PM

Posted by Anonymous | August 12, 2011 2:16 PM

In continuing with the Waterfront's tradition of comedians opening up for bands, Andrew Dice Clay and Nick DiPaolo will be opening for Sonic Youth.

Hickory dickory dock, Kim Gordon was...

In the mighty tradition of Lebanese Hummus chefs... tonight is a night to utilize the sacred recipe.

Fact: Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore are really tall. We're taking 6'4" on him and 6'1" on her. It's fucking bananas.

Posted by Anonymous | August 12, 2011 6:20 PM

As temporary replacements during construction, Kim and Thurston will stand at the World Trade Center site to represent the Twin Towers.

throwing a question out there - what time do the waterfront shows end? is there a 10:30 deadline like the parks....

Posted by Anonymous | August 12, 2011 6:55 PM

i dont care aout FROHAWK but he is here!!!! <3 also wish Kurt Vile set was longer. Wild Flag currently rockin Sonic Youth gonna be sick.

Posted by Anonymous | August 12, 2011 7:21 PM

7:21, I smell blatant bullshit. I bet Frohawk posts about himself.

Posted by Anonymous | August 12, 2011 8:14 PM

Sonic Youth really pulled out some rarities tonight. Great show.

Posted by Anonymous | August 12, 2011 10:46 PM

1) I can confirm the Frohawk sighting at the Waterfront. He stood stage right, about 10 yards from the stage.

2) good SY set, not one for the ages. Very experimental, which I appreciated, but did not have the overall vibe and energy from last year's Prospect Park set. THAT was one for the ages.

Posted by Anonymous | August 12, 2011 11:06 PM

DEATH VALLEY 69!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | August 12, 2011 11:10 PM

11:06- You should have been like "Yo, Frohawk".

Posted by Anonymous | August 12, 2011 11:53 PM

I have been fortunate enough to meet Frohawk on two separate occasions. The second time, I gave him a hug.

Posted by Anonymous | August 13, 2011 12:24 AM

Sonic Youth was good. And yes, I too saw Frohawk in action. My first Frohawk sighting actually. He is much fatter than I thought he was from the pictures posted here.

Posted by Anonymous | August 13, 2011 12:24 AM

Frohawk needs to learn about portion control. Diabetes my friend. People are counting on you being around for a while.

Posted by Anonymous | August 13, 2011 3:40 AM

I spotted Frohawk at shows before he was ever a topic of conversation here.

Posted by Anonymous | August 13, 2011 5:38 AM

5:38 is special......

thx for the set-list, it was a solid show, it was cool to see them acknowledge like 'hey we are going to try some stuff we haven't played in a long time', instead of just play the last album with a couple old songs. i feel like Sonic Youth shows, esp in NYC, that happen between LP's usually render the most creative choices for set-lists. it's gotta be a bit taxing with so many songs, and re-learning them.

Posted by Anonymous | August 13, 2011 10:39 AM

SONIC FUCKING YOUTH ROCKED!

Posted by Anonymous | August 13, 2011 3:47 PM

A just-great Sonic Youth show is 100% better than any other band's freaking-awesome-all-time-best show.

That said, last night's show was just-great. A bit better than Battery Park, but not as perfect as Prospect Park.
