BV Day party @ Emo's Outside - SXSW 2010 (more by Tim Griffin)

BV Day party @ Emo's Outside - SXSW 2011 (more by Tim Griffin)

We were sad to learn the Emo's Outside hosted its FINAL show on Saturday night (9/17), an ACL afterparty headlined by DFA1979 (pictures on the way). Note that Emo's Inside (the smaller room) is still open, as is the just-opened Emo's East elsewhere in town, but the big, main, outdoor (but covered) Emo's stage is on its way out. Emo's is/was one of the most centrally located and greatest venues to see a show in Austin and I'm going to miss the big room. I'm especially going to miss having the now-annual BV day party there on the first day of SXSW. Stay tuned for more info, pictures, etc..

UPDATE: Here are the pictures of the final show

UPDATE 2: Killdozer will play the final show at Emo's Inside.

Why is the outdoor stage closing?

I haven't been there in years, but I saw literally hundreds of great shows there in the nineties/early 2000s. The sound might not have been the best, and it could get fucking hot at and oversold Summer show, but it was my favorite place in Austin to see a show.

Don't listen to yuppie scumbags like 11:02 who want to turn the underground music scene into an air-conditioned television jerk-off fantasy.

Delta Spirit rocked so hard, that they brought the early stages of demolition with their set on Thursday.

The PA had seen its better days, but this place still hosted a lot of amazing music and i saw some great shows there. it was a big room but still easy to get close to the band if you wanted. plus the open air was great on certain days. from what i understand, the place was way old like dating back to the 1800s and in need of some major renovations. once the new emo's east got rolling and ready (they were working on it almost to the day it opened), they decided to shut er down. going to be weird to not have it there.

I think it's pretty stupid to give up such a great space for that awful place way out on Riverside. The end of Emo's, and I give that new place three years tops.

Let's face it: Emos has sucked for the past 5 years or so and this new Emos looks terrible and plastic. However, we all have some fond memories from shows we all went to and that's sad. I mean, I'd have liked to 'say goodbye' with a last show. Had no idea it was closing or I'd have swung by for a shot!
