Spazzy drummer Greg Fox of Liturgy will leave the Brooklyn "white metal" crew after their October tour with Boris. The departure is amicable. Liturgy tours a lot and Greg wants to shift his focus to other things, like his solo project GDFX (who recently released One Thing, stream it), Guardian Alien (who play a release show on 9/24 at Shea Stadium), and more (stay tuned). Fox told us:

Liturgy was fun and educational, but it's time for me to move forward. As a drummer in New York City, I have the opportunity to learn a lot from many very talented folks, and I'd like to be more open to those opportunities. If it makes sense for bands to last a long time then they do, otherwise you have to move on to the next thing, new experiences, new chapters. I wish Liturgy all the best. I'm excited about the future, about trying new things and making other plants grow, about growing personally, and about eating more pho.
And for the record, Greg Fox is that obsessed with Vietnamese noodle soup, though no word if said obsession caused friction between the band members. I am guessing not.

Catch Fox's final NYC show with Liturgy when they play with Boris/Asobi Seksu at Irving Plaza on 10/27. Tickets are still available.

real talk that GDFX album sucks sounds like he made it with garageband loops. his drumming with liturgy is fucking awesome, though

drat, he is a great drummer!

Posted by Anonymous | September 2, 2011 2:54 PM

He probably left liturgy because they play PHO-ny black metal

Guardian Alien is where it is at. Psyched for Greg, he is a true musician, and wants to expand his horizon. You have to respect that. That burst beat was the shit tho.

pho is the new hummus. I hope. I hope something is the new hummus, so the hummus thing goes away for good.

i heard hunt-hendrix tried to claim ownership of the "burst beat", despite not even playing the drums. that would make me want to quit the band too.

Probably got sick of all the heat Liturgy is taking for Hunter's ridiculous statements and "manifesto".

He wasn't getting enough Hummus.

Posted by Hummus | September 4, 2011 2:43 PM

Nothing, I repeat NOTHING will ever be the "new hummus".

You ever HAD hummus???

he probably left due to fact he was tired of living a lie in liturgy, burst beat isnt a new concept, and even worse is they are claming to be black metal, ugh.

Posted by Anonymous | September 7, 2011 5:41 PM

he probably left because of the comments on this page
