Never seen Mastodon live - are they worth checking out? I like Leviathan.

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2011 11:32 AM

I wish this was at a VFW.

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2011 11:33 AM

Yea, last time they played irving plaza, it was an incredible show...T5 is kinda big for them, either way i am there...

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2011 11:33 AM

lol VFW! miss going to that type of shows.....

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2011 11:42 AM

@ 11:32 not really, if you're lucky you'll get one song from Leviathan and the vocals are pretty tarded live.

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2011 11:44 AM

worst venue in NYC - skipping this time around. wish this was hammerstein ballroom. T5 is so hard to see from anywhere on the floor at this venue.

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2011 11:44 AM

T5 is really not that big for them, especially with DEP on the bill, but T5 just blows, so matter how you slice it!

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2011 11:51 AM

starting kickstarter page to shut down T5 for good.

i hope to raise @ least ___________!!!

I dig Mastodon, mostly the older stuff, but I gotta say the two times I have seen them live it's been pretty disappointing. Brent Hinds (guitarist) is a drunken asshole and plays pretty sloppy, the vocals are terrible, and overall there just wasn't much energy from the band.

That was when they were doing the "play Crack The Skye all the way through for three consecutive tours over two years" thing though so maybe the new material will change things. The vocals will still be awful though - trust.

Red Fang!!!!!!!!! They should book a mercury lounge show after the T5 gig. Would love to see them at a small venue.

12:03: I pretty much agree. The Remission days were the best (and most likely long gone now). Now they've been like a semi-caricature these days. Blood Mountain was decent, but I hated CTS (and yes, the vocals were part of the reason why).

Still looking forward to this though.

Saw them at CB's during the Remission days; they were amazing. Same goes for Leviathan era. Don't like their newer material as much, but they are still worth seeing. The last time they played at MHOW was pretty amazing.

blahblahblahT5sucksblahblah

Glad to finally see Mastodon and Dillinger though!

The vocals seemed a lot better when they were playing tiny clubs (I wasn't joking about the VFW). That was back in the Demo/Lifesblood/Remission days. I saw them recently and was sort of disappointed. I think the crowd being able to interact with the band makes a difference.

I'm 6 foot. I like T5.

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2011 12:32 PM

Ha I saw them at a VFW in Binghampton. They smelled like vomit soaked monkeys, the show was amazing.

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2011 1:03 PM

I agree that their vocals are not exceptional live but I saw them on the Crack the Skye tour with Baroness and BTBAM and the whole experience was incredible. Bill dropped out for a few weeks right before the show though. Fortunately Baroness' guitarists kick ass and could cover for just about every CTS song except The Last Baron.

Amazing lineup, will peep this in Philthadelphia

Dedicated to Brent Hinds in the back of the 1 train
He be kicking out windows, high on cocaine
And then he jump the turnstile 'cause he lost his last token
Riding between the cars, pissing, smoking,
Head for the last car, fluorescent light blackout
Policeman tell Brent Hinds "yo, put that crack out"
You know he light up when the lights go down
And he read the New York Post Fulton St. Downtown

Er... there's no "P" in "Binghamton".

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2011 2:42 PM

Just joking- we're referring to the same VFW. The Binghamton shows were the best. The only one I didn't catch was when they played the Chinese buffet.

I'm gong to this show to pick up chicks!

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2011 2:51 PM

I've been to Terminal 5 3 times now in the last 2,3 years and the experiences haven't been the greatest. I wish this was somewhere else.

Posted by Rocco | September 12, 2011 2:59 PM

2:51: I don't think a gong is going to help you get chicks. If anything, you'll make them deaf (along with anyone else nearby).

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2011 3:04 PM

On my birthday and everything. Hmmm...

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2011 3:28 PM

Is this a white power show?

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2011 6:12 PM

the will be 50 dudes for every chick at this event

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2011 6:12 PM

^ and the chicks are gonna be moshing to DEP in basketball shorts thats some hardcore shit

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2011 9:01 PM

I'm no fan of Crack the Skye, but the handful of songs Mastodon played after they finished the Skye stuff was totally insane last time. Those 5 songs were possibly the best thing I've ever seen. Was worth the pain.

Posted by Paluka | September 14, 2011 11:21 AM

^ I agree. Same happened to me last time I saw them.

Posted by Anonymous | September 14, 2011 11:46 AM
