Radiohead @ Roseland Ballroom (more by Dana (Distortion) Yavin)
RadioheaD

Occupy Wall Street posted a confirmation to the rumor that Radiohead is playing for them today at 4PM. One problem. The Wall Street Journal says:

"It appears that Radiohead will not be headed to Wall Street on Friday afternoon to perform for the protesters who have occupied Zuccotti Park for the past two weeks.

The band's representatives said in an email that there will be no show in support of the "Occupy Wall Street" demonstrators. "We can officially confirm this is NOT happening," wrote Steve Martin of Nasty Little Man, the firm that represents Radiohead.

Rumors of a Radiohead appearance swirled around the Internet and Twitter earlier Friday, capped by an email from a spokesperson for the loosely organized protest movement shortly after midday announcing what he termed a "show in solidarity" at 4 p.m. Friday.

Hmm. Who is telling the truth? Could they have planned to play, but backed out when they realized word got out? Could it not be "Radiohead", but something related? A Clive Deamer solo bongo set? We'll find out soon enough! Head to Wall St. at your own risk!

Sounds like Occupy Wall Street is telling a little white lie to get people to learn about their cause?

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 1:42 PM

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 1:42 PM

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 1:44 PM

ugh worth it / not worth it to go

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 1:44 PM

There is too much security in the area for this to actually happen.

Posted by Dan | September 30, 2011 1:45 PM

bad timings for this announcement... I just made excuses to bail from work... maybe itll just be Thom Yorke.... or perhaps a can can line of people serviing hummus?

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 1:45 PM

Could it be Occupy Wall Street started a bs rumor to draw attention to their protest......

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 1:45 PM

i dunno, i feel like the organizers of this aren't really smart enough to have figured out that radiohead is in NYC and has a day off...what is going on here? would they actually make this shit up?

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 1:46 PM

Instead Michael Moore and Chris Christie are going to have a Hot Dog eating contest to decide how to solve the dbet crisis

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 1:47 PM

Radiohead management made the announcement after calling Occupy Wall Street organizers in a fury to say "what the fukk were you guys thinking announcing the show to the world after we quietly agreed to do a 'secret' show in the park" "You guys are more clueless than we thought, go fukk yourselves, you stupid media whores" Occupy Wall Street organizers have responded by making a quick schedule adjustment and have now announced that instead of Radiohead, Daft Punk will now perform in support of the protesters at 4:15 PM.

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 1:48 PM

could be that "radiohead" isn't playing, but thom yorke is doing a solo set. i could see that.

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 1:50 PM

DJ Assballs from GnR is playing with himself

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 1:50 PM

It's possible that Radiohead was going to play but cancelled when word got out, it's also possible that they are still going to play but are putting out an announcement that the show "Officially" isn't happening because they don't want a million people there.

Who knows?

At this point who cares.

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 1:52 PM

I'm going.

Best case scenario - Radiohead plays

Worst case scenario - I get to argue with dumb hippies

It's a win win....

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 1:54 PM

2nd 1:42 definitely missed out on Radiohead tickets for sure.

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 1:54 PM

first!

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 1:54 PM

Steve Martin should stick to acting and the occasional banjo performance.

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 1:55 PM

STEVE MARTIN was in AGNOSTIC FRONT..not the STEVE MARTIN that was in THE JERK

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 1:55 PM

Father: Son, now that you're going out into the world, there's something you should know. You see that?

Navin: Yeah.

Father: That's shit. And this - shinola.

Navin: Shit, shinola.

Father: Son, you're going to be all right.

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 1:56 PM

10:01 changed the world.

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 1:56 PM

White lie? They're tugging at the heart strings of serious diehard Radiohead fans. You don't want to mess with them.

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 1:57 PM

This was never going to happen - big act says they're playing a free show way downtown, then cancels? Drakegate II, anybody (just with a much whiter crowd)?...

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 2:00 PM

I think they are playing.

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 2:01 PM

ok ok. i'm sorry.

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 2:01 PM

Lord loves a working man, don't trust whitey, see a doctor and get rid of it...

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 2:01 PM

Can't some protestor down there take a walk to the park and see if there's massive gear getting set up and twitter that?

You can't do these things without permits. It's probably just Thom solo with a USB mini amp.

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 2:03 PM

hahahahaha

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 2:04 PM

Thom Yorke to play wooden octopus with plastic spoon.

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 2:04 PM

GOT A POCKET FULLA KRYPTONITE KITTENZ

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 2:05 PM

Well, they were going to play, then they read all the BV comments...

Posted by A Radiohead Rep | September 30, 2011 2:05 PM

I blame Steve Martin

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 2:07 PM

i wouldn't be surprised if this was actually in the works but then got scrapped when it leaked everywhere. this would have to be real hush hush, propensity to turn into a shit show is too severe otherwise. there are a lot of underserved and desperate rh fans roaming the streets of nyc lately...

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 2:08 PM

Worst case scenario - I get to argue with dumb hippies
It's a win win....

how is that a win ?

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 2:09 PM

Radiohead is blacker than Drake.

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 2:10 PM

i hear it's still on. short acoustic set. not lying but obviously can't give any solid proof.

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 2:11 PM

@2:09 - It's a win because it's almost as entertaining as listening to radiohead. Have you ever argued with a hippie? It's hysterical!

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 2:11 PM

these are not the droids you're looking for...

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 2:12 PM

Foo Fighters is going to show up to protest Westboro Baptist Church.

Posted by The Mighty KC | September 30, 2011 2:12 PM

^^^^^^^^^ THAT

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 2:13 PM

I'm headed down to wall street now. Never been down that way before. I suppose it's ridiculous to think that there may be a hummus stand anywhere down that way right? I'm kinda hungry.

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 2:14 PM

It's actually going to be Ron Jeremy on lead vocals with the surviving members of Quiet Riot playing backup, doing Elton John covers.

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 2:15 PM

i went to college with one of the leaders of the protests (met him a couple times .. can't say i know him well). he's far from a dumb hippie. he's a nyc public school teacher. you've got to stop letting to the corporate media frame these protests. with huge populist movements in egypt, tunisia, israel, etc this summer it's time we stand up in the US before it's too late.

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 2:15 PM

my friend is down there now, just arrived. she says everyone there says it's happening. 4pm. short acoustic performance, probably 4 songs.

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 2:16 PM

Haha telling us the leader is a NY public school teacher is not a convincing argument.

Now, if you want to talk about broken systems (i.e. capitalism) lets talk about public schooling. THAT is a joke in need of some protesting.

Teachers union happens to be one of the better paying and protected unions out there.

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 2:18 PM

THEY BETTER PLAY CREEP!!!

Posted by Tomas York | September 30, 2011 2:19 PM

Turns out that it's not Radiohead performing. Radio Raheem from Do the Right Thing will bring his boombox for your listening pleasure.

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 2:20 PM

radiohead downplaying 4pm event due to legal/safety concerns will join crowd occupywallstreet anonymously + play short acoustic set.

Posted by reader | September 30, 2011 2:21 PM

Philip Seymour Hoffman to play with iPhone during Occupy Wall Street.

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 2:26 PM

Maybe BV started this rumor to drum up hits on his site...

Actually, that sounds like more of a Gothamist thing (or Wall Street Journal).

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 2:26 PM

2:15 - The problem is that these people don't appear to have a clear agenda, or set of goals. The richest 1% are not going to apologize and give their money back. Ironically, the protesters need to run their organization like a business, with a defined plan.

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 2:26 PM

NICKLEBACK

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 2:26 PM

Radio Raheem's boombox is fucking busted. Didn't you see the movie?

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 2:27 PM

the real question is - what songs can radiohead play acoustic? that hsould narrow it down to about 10 tracks.

mostly early stuff, don't see how they could play anything off rainbows/KOL acoustic

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 2:28 PM

radio raheem is dead, yo

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 2:29 PM

Bad news guys. It's actually Dread Zeppelin.

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 2:32 PM

the cops fucking killed radio raheem!

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 2:33 PM

"i went to college with one of the leaders of the protests (met him a couple times .. can't say i know him well). he's far from a dumb hippie. he's a nyc public school teacher."

You fucking slay me.

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 2:34 PM

Thom Yorke will be DJing sick beats.

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 2:42 PM

Even if it's a four song acoustic thing, it's hardly worth cutting out of work and going down there.

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 2:47 PM

Oh well guys, guess this was all just a big misunderstanding. I'll see you at ATP NJ for Radiohead's surprise Public Enemy mashup. DJ Yorkadelic will be subbing in.

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 2:48 PM

Karma Police, mace this girl...

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 3:06 PM

Radiohead just confirmed on facebook they aren't playing. Everyone go home

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 3:09 PM

Radiohead
We wish the best of luck to the protesters there, but contrary to earlier rumours, we will not be appearing today at Occupy Wall Street

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 3:14 PM

You know where else Radiohead will not be performing this weekend?

Asbury Park, NJ

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 3:19 PM

Since they used a "u" in rumours, it MUST be them!

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 3:21 PM

Someone hacked their FB? I'm here at the protest watching them set up!

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 3:22 PM

Yeah I was kidding, I know. But fuck those Occupy people anyway, they just lost any credibility they might have had.

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 3:24 PM

I like how they're trying to weed out fans who aren't down with the cause. Smart. Wicked smart. Shows gonna be epic!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 3:25 PM

I have a spot on the sidewalk, if someone wants to stand next to me for $800.

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 3:25 PM

This would never happen. Even the band understands the potential for disaster this would bring. You have any idea as to the absolute clusterfuck and problems this would bring to the wallstreet area? It's already in a very tense situationa at the moment, imagine an additional 30,000 yoyo's running around trying to get a better view of the band?!

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 3:26 PM

^ Exactly. That's why they're pulling the great big head fake now. It'll keep the numbers manageable.

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 3:29 PM

Radiohead would not lie...or would they?

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 3:31 PM

they probably would have gone had it not leaked

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 3:31 PM

They just finished playing, here's the setlist:

1. (Bad) Karma Police
2. (They're All) Creep(s)
3. Videotape (of the Beatings)
4. Morning Bell (dedicated to Wall Street)

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 3:35 PM

Heading to the show now!

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 3:36 PM

the protesters are even dumber and less organized than originally thought, who'd a thunk it?

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 3:38 PM

5. Dollars and cents

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 3:39 PM

Wow the stench of hippie is almost unbearable

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 3:40 PM

I work next door to the park.

What a bunch of stupid losers. The resources expended in this worthless effort is going to cost tax payers millions in cop overtime.

Nothing down here but a bunch of working stiff's and contruction dudes. And to take over a park that has such a reflective meaning to people effected by Sept 11 is thoughtless and insulting.

You should be in Greenwich, Ct. or where ever these people live, casue they ain't down here. trust me.

So just go away already, its starting to look like a shanty town, it smells of BO and the poeple playing drums suck at drumming.

Brookfield will kick eveyone out eventually was they have it rezoned. Its actually private property owned by Brookfield.

Posted by Please leave our park | September 30, 2011 3:40 PM

They're playing a brand new song right now! Thom says they wrote it on the way over. It's great - a real return to form!

ARE YOU RANDY

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 3:42 PM

beach fossils soundchecking at the protests right now...shits about to go off!!!

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 3:45 PM

NO SHOW: Patrick Bruner, the Occupy Wall Street spokesman who earlier confirmed the concert, emails, "I got hoaxed. Radiohead was never confirmed. Completely our fault. Apologies. The band were victims in this hoax as well."

Anyway, were you crazy to listen In Wall Street 4 songs from KOL acoustic!?

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 3:45 PM

@3:40 blowhard

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 3:46 PM

i'm a reasonable man, get off my case

Lightning Bolt is setting up their gear right now. Old fashioned "in the crowd" show!

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 3:58 PM

Radiohead is 100% pro-corporate. Why would they protest Wall Street?

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2011 3:58 PM

Radio Raheem got what he deserved. That guy was a menace and totally egged Sal on.
