1/4 of Joy Division (aka Peter Hook) performing as Joy Division in Brest, 9th March 2011
Peter Hook

"I first heard about this on Monday and it has taken me completely by surprise! Everyone knows that NEW ORDER without PETER HOOK is like QUEEN without FREDDIE MERCURY, U2 without THE EDGE, SOOTY without SWEEP!

On a more serious note, I do not understand the decision THE OTHER THREE have taken. I wish they had approached me first. I do not agree with the methods they have used and feel it would have been courteous and professional to have spoken to me in advance of the announcements. It is very sad.

Love PETER HOOK x Sept 2011

Maybe Peter Hook will comment on it on Tuesday (9/13) at Gramercy Theater as part of his tour playing songs by Joy Division. (irony?)

Hooky is angwy

Sure his role was pronounced, but get over yourself Mr. Hook. You ain't that important.

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2011 4:48 PM

Pot, kettle.

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2011 5:00 PM

@4:48 - The incredibly high level of Hooky's importance in both Joy Division and New Order can only be equaled by the miserable lows of his decision to "tour" Joy Division albums on his own with a bunch of session guys and a Happy Mondays backup singer.

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2011 5:02 PM

p.s. The Joy Division touring thing is probably exactly why THE OTHER THREE didn't bother calling him up about the New Order reunion. I'm sure they're dumbfounded by Hooky's audacity to do that. Pot, kettle indeed!

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2011 5:04 PM

You must be the kettle then, huh 5:00? Yup, that sounds about right.

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2011 5:06 PM

Did Hook consult Ian Curtis about doing Joy Division songs?

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2011 5:09 PM

sounds like some typical 'lads' who don't know how to communicate with each other.

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2011 5:12 PM

fuck that mr hook - plus gillian will be there, can't wait - new order in paris, hell yeah!

Posted by petrini | September 9, 2011 5:13 PM

fuck 'em all. bunch o' new wave garbage post-hipster billyburger eating jerkfaces.

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2011 5:22 PM

Fuck Captain Hook

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2011 5:23 PM

ian curtis died awhile ago

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2011 5:37 PM

I wonder if Peter Hook contacted his former New Order band mates before writing and publishing his retort.

Posted by Regular reader | September 9, 2011 5:38 PM

Fuck Peter Schnook

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2011 5:38 PM

Yeah Pirates opf the Caribbean 3 SUCKED.

Can't you dicks fight in private?

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2011 5:41 PM

Just get yerself an expresso to have with your Billburger, and all will be better in the world. Especially when you're watching the multi-colored balloons rising high above the loft in Williamsburg to compensate for lack of talent by the band playing. Even though ... they're totally foxy ladies.

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2011 5:42 PM

Peter hooks show was moved from irving plaza to gramercy. It should really be moved to piano's.
He has some nerve being mad, especially after what he is doing touring joy divisions albums.

Ice Cream eatin' motherfuckers!!!

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2011 6:03 PM

At this point, Ian Curtis has rolled over in his grave more times than a rottisserie chicken.

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2011 6:05 PM

love, or the lack of, really does tear them apart

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2011 6:27 PM

A summary of Hook's importance:

I never for a second entertained the notion of seeing one of Hook's Joy Division shows.

I will definitely be in line for tickets if and when New Order-minus-Hook play anywhere close to NYC.

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2011 6:35 PM

the same for me. Will not see Hooks sad version of Joy Division tour and would see New Order in a minute w/o hook.

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2011 6:39 PM

The "expresso Billyburger" spiel = epic meme fail!

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2011 6:45 PM

Dear Peter Hook,

Quit being a dick, I mean, a diva. It's a benefit for chrissakes. Why not be the bigger man and use this as an opportunity to mend fences. Maybe, just maybe, it'll lead to bigger things and a bigger paycheck.

Regards -
Everyone

In other words he would've done it and the other three didn't want him in it. Too bad but someone can definitely ape his bass lines & sound. If Sumner's voice is there, it's New Order.

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2011 7:33 PM

Hold on a minute - look at the picture. The guy to Hook's left is CLEARLY PLAYING BASS.

So what the fuck is Hook doing?

Fuckying douchebag!

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2011 8:14 PM

Fuck off your pretentious douches.

Posted by I hate hipsters | September 9, 2011 8:16 PM

at 6:05 LOL seriously, i wonder what he would have thought of all this

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2011 8:24 PM

One look at recent videos clearly shows Hook has an extra bass player because he can't sing and play at the same time.

He also needs a hand free to turn the pages of his lyric sheet.

ian curtis was reincarnated and is walking the earth as someone else

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2011 8:43 PM

I thought suicides stayed in purgatory forever

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2011 8:54 PM

@ 5:13 like you gonna go to paris just to see New Order shitbag.....

"At this point, Ian Curtis has rolled over in his grave more times than a rottisserie chicken."

I actually lol'd.

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2011 11:47 PM

hook didn't even go to ian curtis' funeral.

Posted by Anonymous | September 10, 2011 1:58 AM

New Order should get Les Claypool to play bass. Or Carlos D.

Posted by Anonymous | September 10, 2011 5:02 AM

Hook a bitch straight up. But both JD and NO suck balls so I guess it a wash.

Posted by Anonymous | September 10, 2011 10:18 AM

^I won't even get into your futile attempt to speak "hipster ghetto." Let's just focus on your musical ignorance. If you actually know who Peter Hook is and care enough about this topic to post a comment on this thread, then you should also know that so eloquently stating "JD and NO suck balls" is fucking ridiculous.

Posted by Anonymous | September 10, 2011 1:04 PM

^^ 1:04, sorry but your hipster facscism does not apply to the rest of us. We are entitled to an opinion as much as you. I also don't care for either of those bands. I was very much an adult during their "run" and I really found nothing compelling in their pop music. But I don't really like sugar dance pop anyway, regardless of how depressing and cynical the lyrics might make it seem "ironic". So, fuck off yourself you little pansy.

Posted by That's right, I said it | September 10, 2011 4:43 PM

^^ @4:43 You'll be glad to know Glen Campbell has a new record out.

4:43 you are a loser. You are "older" and yet you have nothing better to do but make nasty comments online. I guess you can't drink at bar all day.

Posted by Anonymous | September 10, 2011 11:17 PM

"Sooty without Sweep" - that's serious stuff!

I remember Hooky back in the day - as decent and unpretentious fellow as you could meet - always ready to lend a hand with humping the gear.

Posted by joly | September 11, 2011 12:50 AM

Joly wouldn't lie - he probably made badges for Joy Division when they were still together!

HAIL JOLY!

Posted by Crosseyed Sniper | September 11, 2011 1:17 AM

11:17 - Which of the comments made by 4:43 do you feel are nasty according to your standards? I mean, besides calling the other guy a pansy for his nasty comments and his attempt to regulate the conversation on this thread? I think that your mommy did you a real disservice in not preparing you for the real world. You probably should have been corrected more frequently when you made dumbass comments when you were younger, that way you might be able to tolerate another opinion without losing your shit.

Pot, meet Kettle.

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2011 7:54 AM

^Oh shut up twat.

Posted by conversation regulator | September 11, 2011 10:55 AM

the nerve of this clown. breaks up the band entirely on his own, starts playing joy division covers, all on his own. thinks he's entitled to the people he totally abandoned asking him if it's ok if they still play music? what a complete and total asshole.

Posted by onceler | September 12, 2011 5:15 PM

I understand that people are taking sides in this riff. There is nothing wrong with that, but maybe we should all just be happy that former New Order members are touring again.
