Radiohead

Like he did at Glastonbury and in the Basement, and like he probably will twice this week at Roseland Ballroom in NYC (and on Colbert), drummer Clive Deamer joined Radiohead during their performance on Saturday Night Live last night (9/24). Said Radiohead drummer Phil Selway back in June, "no, you're not seeing double. The doppelganger drummers are myself and Clive Deamer. Clive has long been one of my favourite drummers and so I was really excited when he agreed to perform with us. Hope you like what we've all done." Clive's credits include recording with Portishead and Roni Size, and touring with Robert Plant. Check out the two SNL videos, and some clearer screencaps, below...

lotus flower sounded like shit. sounded like those youtube videos where people dub shitty singing over normal performances, except it was real. The second song sounded good tho....reverb?

After seeing SNL performance, the Roseland shows don't seem worth the trouble. You'll be paying money to see a band with all their best days far behind them.

Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2011 5:05 PM

agreed that this was a really boring performance.

Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2011 5:12 PM

@6:05-
Exactly what i thought. Really uninspired performances on both songs. Where is that Radiohead magic? Probably has something to do with it being on a shitty TV show and I expect Colbert will sound bad as well.
I got tickets for Roseland so praying it's not like this for those shows but I am wary now.

Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2011 5:16 PM

Lotus Flower: Thom Yorke's best Mick Jagger "dancing" impersonation.

Staircase: music to blog to. Boring.

Stick a fork in their asses. They are done.

Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2011 5:17 PM

first song was good, second not so much.

Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2011 5:20 PM

keep on bashing these performances... tickets will be easier to get with fewer people trying

Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2011 5:24 PM

You think one not-so-amazing performance on a television show means these Roseland shows aren't going to be good or that they are done? You are all morons.

Please though, don't buy tickets! Better for the rest of us.

Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2011 5:29 PM

This guys should take a cue from REM.

Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2011 5:39 PM

5:05 & 5:17 - Damn straight. This band was never any good - certainly not worth having to sit thru an hour+ of that crap live.

& don't get me started on the $80 ticket price - I need that money for my Spin magazine subscription and ironic tshirt collection.

Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2011 5:41 PM

"keep on bashing these performances... tickets will be easier to get with fewer people trying"

Yeah HAH, keep thinking that. You forget all the psycho Radiohead fanatics who would go watch the band taking a shit on stage and not playing any music. Have you been following the message boards? Many people from Europe and the rest of this country booked flights and are here trying to get into the show. The presale sold out in less than a minute without any notifications. Good Luck Tomorrow. You have a better chance at getting hit by a bus then scoring tickets. The comments section starting at 10:01 should be priceless.

Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2011 5:44 PM

Agreed - those performances were pretty lame. Not gonna stop be from trying to get tickets tomorrow (and failing miserably no doubt).

Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2011 6:07 PM

they better play a lot of old shit. i'm really not looking forward to a 70% limbs show, but that's prob what we're gonna get

Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2011 6:10 PM

peeeeeple! its the weekend, go outside and frisk about with the bunnies! jeewiz!

Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2011 6:11 PM

It's amazing that 5:16 has tickets already considering they don't go on sale until Tuesday and there is no pre-sale.

Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2011 6:21 PM

Will they play "Creep"?

Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2011 6:24 PM

Even if they play all of King of Limbs, which seems likely, that albums only like, 30 minutes long. They can play all of it and still have plenty of time for old songs.

Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2011 6:25 PM

Tickets go on sale Monday and there was a pre-sale...

Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2011 6:27 PM

rh is copying the dismemberment plan.

Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2011 6:35 PM

6:21- there was a presale and tickets are on sale Monday not Tuesday. Everything you said is wrong. Good try though

Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2011 6:37 PM

Back in the day you had Belushi miming Joe Cocker on SNL and it was funny.

HUGELY missed opportunity to have Martin Short beside Thommy miming him.

End of story.

Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2011 6:41 PM

6:25, They will be playing King of limbs in its entirety, twice.

Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2011 7:14 PM

The setlist for both Roseland shows will be:

1) Feral (Extended 2 hour jam)

Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2011 7:34 PM

you know, listening to it again, lotus flower really wasnt so bad. its just more a of a synth-driven song, not as much backbone. not the best songs, in rainbows material probably would've worked a little better as far as a two-song sampler for whiny commenters to judge their entire career on.

Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2011 8:15 PM

FUCK - this band need to get their groove back. All i enjoyed were the outfits - they must have some good stylist from all that OK Computer $$$$. Funny how times change.

Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2011 8:23 PM

I would say that te hummus tasted good. Perhaps it was a bit dry, but it still satisfied my desires.

Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2011 8:37 PM

who still gives a shit about this band ?!?

Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2011 8:50 PM

Right on 8:50, nobody does! Or millions and millions do, one or the other!

Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2011 8:55 PM

people give a shit because they remember what they once were. i dont think its coming back :(

Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2011 9:07 PM

ed o brian has a hitler haircut

Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2011 9:08 PM

is it hummus or hommus?

Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2011 9:22 PM

i shaved my ball sack with a braun cruzer and now it looks like the drummers head.

Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2011 9:24 PM

Was Thom doing a variation on Ashlee Simpson at the end of "Staircase"?

Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2011 9:37 PM

Well, the performance was cool and all, but were they trying too hard?

Posted by meat | September 25, 2011 11:25 PM

Radiohead don't need 2 drums, just better new songs

Posted by Anonymous | September 26, 2011 1:37 AM

@5:41pm, nobody actually pays for their Spin subscription. Nobody. When I was a kid, my family had a free subscription that got extended for six years additional years without any of us even trying.

Posted by Anonymous | September 26, 2011 1:47 AM

Everybody pays for their Spin subscription. You may not pay with money, but you do pay with time that you'll never get back, and also with dignity. The same two things that I paid in order to write this comment.

Posted by Anonymous | September 26, 2011 3:42 AM

If you had never heard Radiohead's music prior to seeing them on SNL, and you could have watched it objectively with no pre-conceived notions of what it should sound like, most people what say "what the eff is this garbage?!?"

Posted by Anonymous | September 26, 2011 6:03 AM

Fuck this band. I'm over it. Radiohead was WHACK on SNL. They sounded like they were phoning it in. I'm gonna save the cash and get some studio monitors instead :) Primus is on Friday anyway and will be a lot more fun.

Posted by Anonymous | September 26, 2011 7:18 AM

Yes they were terrible*...I wouldn't spend one cent on them...

*Secretly trying for tickets*

Posted by Anonymous | September 26, 2011 7:29 AM

ok, so they have 2 bald drummers. whatever. why does every media report about this band HAVE to make a fucking point about it.

it's pretty obvious by now (and i am a huge radiohead fan) that they just aren't in a great place musically at the moment and that they are getting massive attention now for what they HAVE done, rather than what they are doing - if this was an unknown band, playing this song, it would not be on a major tv show or getting any kind of attention from the press.

sorry...

Posted by Anonymous | September 26, 2011 8:03 AM

^That's true with every band. You get on these shows for previous work and expectations...some bands meet it with new music some don't.

Posted by Anonymous | September 26, 2011 8:11 AM

All you Radiohead haters should probably direct your distaste towards something more productive and more acceptable. (such as the hummus quality at Moaz) BLECH... It's awful there.

Posted by Anonymous | September 26, 2011 8:44 AM

Thom Yorke not angsty enough

Posted by Anonymous | September 26, 2011 9:24 AM

A thread full of trolls, or do you morons actually believe the claptrap coming out of your keyboards? Isn't there a new panda bear record you all should be listening to?

Posted by Anonymous | September 26, 2011 9:42 AM

You guys are not true Radiohead fans if you're ready to not see shows, and everything they do sucks.

And to that I say fuck you all then. Because Radiohead is a great band! They do things different just to see how far they can push it. If you guys are to near sighted to see it, then piss off and go bye. Because us true fans will be right here loving the music and seeing them progress and take music further than ANY band.

Wankers

Posted by anon | September 26, 2011 10:09 AM

Radiohead USED to be a great band.

Posted by Anonymous | September 26, 2011 10:13 AM

Great, two drummers, barely playing ANYTHING. What the fuck happened to these guys...

Posted by Anonymous | September 26, 2011 10:45 AM

you guys act like this is such a departure. Kid A came out HOW many years ago? This is just occuring to you now?

Posted by Anonymous | September 26, 2011 11:15 AM

Defending radiohead's awful music is becoming a full time job for you hipsters, Doesn't leave much time for mustache grooming or fixed-gear bicycle mechanics.

Posted by Anonymous | September 26, 2011 11:50 AM

critiquing a band, even in a casual way on a blog thread, does not make someone a troll.

however, following a band regardless of what they release (like 10.09am) and calling any dissent from the 'its great' line is actually pretty weird.

radiohead is the emperors new clothes.

Posted by Anonymous | September 26, 2011 2:22 PM

i always check in on bv after grooming my moustache and greasing up my fixie, just to make sure you super smart guys aren't making fun of my favorite band, radiohead.

Posted by Anonymous | September 26, 2011 3:36 PM

chances are we are.

Posted by Anonymous | September 26, 2011 6:56 PM

Ha that was an awful version of Lotus Flower. Which gives me hope, really. Because we are all just human, even Radiohead

Posted by Miguel | September 26, 2011 7:22 PM

@1:53am what are you talking about?

Posted by Anonymous | September 26, 2011 7:33 PM

gosh, you guys are SUCH HIPSTERS! why don't you put on your fanny packs and your khaki shorts and drive off to your dead end jobs as corporate cigar ceo boardmeeting!?

Posted by Anonymous | September 26, 2011 7:36 PM

This is what Lotus Flower SHOULD sound like. Minus the annoying crowd talking. Sorry about that.

Posted by Anonymous | September 26, 2011 7:37 PM

who's opening for them?

Posted by you | September 27, 2011 3:23 PM

you are.

Posted by Anonymous | September 27, 2011 4:12 PM

While we may agree, to a degree, that the band has lost their step a little bit, at the end of the day, that's just our OPINION of how the band is fulfilling or not fulfilling some preconceived notion of what they SHOULD sound like to make us happy. Let's just accept that they know what they are doing and are just exploring a different side of themselves and accept what they put out.

That being said, SNL has notoriously bad sound, and those songs sound great in the "From the Basement" sessions that you can check out on youtube.

Posted by Anonymous | October 23, 2011 10:46 AM

looks like a amazing show.
