The National at Academy of Music in Philadelphia (more by David Andrako)
The National

Early this morning we wrote:

...the National headed to LA for another great triple bill last night (9/11) at Hollywood Bowl. They played that show with Neko Case and Sharon Van Etten. Their next scheduled gig is November 6th in Singapore. Hopefully more NYC shows get announced soon, but for now they have nothing coming up in North America at all.
Well, that didn't last long! Santa Claus will arrive early this year because The National will play a four night residency in NYC at Beacon Theater from 12/12 - 12/15 as part of a short stint of just-announced North American dates in late November/December. Each NYC show is with a different great opener. The The War on Drugs open the first night. Sharon Van Etten the next. So Percussion after that. And Wye Oak, who just opened for them in Philly, opens the last.

Tickets for all of the Beacon Theater shows go on sale on presale on 9/14 at 11AM, with regular sale hitting 48 hours later.

wrong dates, they're playing 12/14 not 12/16 re: ticketmaster.

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2011 4:18 PM

librarian rock - pass

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2011 4:22 PM

their official site also says they're playing 12/14 and not 12/16, though Pitchfork says they're taking off 12/14 and playing 12/16. is this a ploy of behemoth music blogs to use their influence to alter actual scheduled show dates?

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2011 4:22 PM

who??? shouldn't they be playing mercury lounge or maybe, just maybe hall of williamsburg???

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2011 4:22 PM

Totally going to the show w/ Sharon Van Etten opening.

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2011 4:34 PM

the War on Drugs "Slave Ambient" > National "High Violet"

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2011 4:39 PM

Giant venue + weeknight = pass.

I'd do this in a heartbeat if it was four nights at Bowery/MHOW/Webster. When did they play that string of shows at Bowery?

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2011 4:40 PM

I bet Beacon sounds better than Aragon

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2011 4:47 PM

yeah this is bold. i realize its a hometown show, but lets be real here

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2011 4:49 PM

This will be good for buying some cheap last minute tix.

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2011 4:54 PM

4:16 - The National sold 14,000 tickets last night at Hollywood Bowl....They CAN (and will) play four nights at the Beacon.

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2011 5:05 PM

Is anyone listening to the new War on Drugs album "Slave Ambient?" Really great stuff.

Posted by Dan | September 12, 2011 5:09 PM

@5:05 they SOLD 14,000 tix, or they PLAYED in a 14,000 venue? and that's LA, not NYC (where they're from, and play a million shows a year)

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2011 5:18 PM

5:18, you're an idiot...what are you trying to ask here?

(they SOLD 14,000 tix, or they PLAYED in a 14,000 venue?)

Also, for comparison sake...NYC is a far larger concert market than LA. And, The National have played Manhattan twice & Brooklyn once in the last fourteen months. If don't want to go, stay home, I'm sure you'll be missed.

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2011 5:31 PM

Hollywood Bowl holds 17.6K. (The sold 80% of the tickets)

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2011 5:34 PM

The National will be opening for Yo La Tengo every night.

As it should be.

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2011 5:53 PM

good joke 5:53. although I think some people will actually think you're being serious

the band is lucky to have such a devoted fan like you

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2011 11:10 PM

$39.50? That's a lot of scratch to watch a band full of receding hair lines. Mumbled middle age angst has paid off well, now I'm older and balder.

The Bowery.

Posted by wrote wrote wrote wrote wrote | September 13, 2011 12:16 AM

Giant venue? You hipsters are such an easy mark. Have you noticed how all your favorite, big bands are now fading away? LCD at MSG? Arcade Fire at MSG? The promoters laugh at you thinking these bands and events are like Woodstock.

The promoters love taking your (or more correctly your parents') money.

Posted by Anonymous | September 13, 2011 8:42 AM

Promoters love anyone's money

Posted by Anonymous | September 13, 2011 9:24 AM

I'm probably dumber than anyone that has ever posted on this website...so don't even try!

Posted by Anonymous | September 13, 2011 9:27 AM

is the presale 09/14/11 or 09/15/11??

Posted by Anonymous | September 13, 2011 11:12 AM

Beacon is 2900, 2900 x 4 = 11,600

Take away about 1,000 of those for guestlists/contests, etc. you're left with 10,600. They did Radio city (6,000) and Prospect Park (around 3,000 I think?) and T5 all last summer (3,000).

The shows will be full but if you're hoping to "scalp" you'll be eating your ticket since they'll be a ton of extras floating around.

we're half awake in our fake MEMpire

Posted by Anonymous | September 13, 2011 11:49 PM

11:12 - Ticketmaster says 9/15, not sure why BV says today.

Posted by Anonymous | September 14, 2011 8:49 AM

presale password anyone?

Posted by ATX | September 14, 2011 9:17 AM

Wow you people are freaking losers. You just post to bitch about the band and the venue being lame? Why bother, does it make you feel cool?

Posted by Anonymous | September 14, 2011 10:15 AM

Presale password is: be an AmEx card holder.

Posted by Anonymous | September 14, 2011 10:47 AM

I couldn't get tickets at 11:01, ridiculous.

Posted by Anonymous | September 14, 2011 11:04 AM

oh wait, I did.

Posted by Anonymous | September 14, 2011 11:24 AM

why am I reading this thread?

Posted by Anonymous | September 14, 2011 8:47 PM

^ more importantly, why are you posting on this thread?

Posted by Anonymous | September 14, 2011 8:59 PM

Something was messed up with the pre sale. I tried at 11:00 up until about 11:15 using both Amex pre sale types, on all nights, and kept getting sold out responses. Then I tried later in the day and got Row R on two different nights. They put the page up at 11 as if they were for sale, but they weren't up there yet. Poorly run.

Posted by Anonymous | September 14, 2011 9:09 PM

monday...the night i wanted with War on Drugs, sold out instantly. I got wednesday. Better than nothing. Fuck tickemaster

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2011 11:17 AM

9:09 should have tried what I said about trying every few minutes...better tickets pop up a few minutes after onsales usually as they try and dump the bad seast first to create the illusion of high demand...later they fill the better seats..

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2011 11:35 AM

im not a scumbag.
