Wilco

Wilco play their first of two shows in Central Park with Nick Lowe tonight (9/22). Tickets are actually currently available.

Wilco were not only the musical guests on Letterman last night (9/21), they also played an hour long set for the "Live on Letterman" online-only series. You can watch both below....

I used to hang out with Jeff Tweedy back when he was in Uncle Tupelo and he told me the biggest influence on his musical career was Spin Doctors legendary album Pocket Full of Kryptonite. No joke. The Spins have touched him deeply.

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2011 12:09 PM

are you trying to say Jeff Tweedy's in the closet?

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2011 12:11 PM

Chris Cornell here, they guy referring to our music as shit can talk to me when he has sold over 20 million records and acted in a movie in the same caliber as Singles.

Posted by Chris Cornell | September 22, 2011 12:12 PM

Paul Schaeffer is really jamming on Little Miss Can't Be Wrong.

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2011 12:13 PM

PS, Spin Doctors are a major inspiration and everyday I sing into a mirror Little Miss Cant Be Wrong using a brush as a mic in nothing but cowprint speedos

Posted by Chris Cornell | September 22, 2011 12:13 PM

That's just what it looks like when a bunch of pros are cookin' on a hot jam. Schaeffer can't help himself.

Posted by Adam R | September 22, 2011 12:19 PM

I've sold millions of records, AND have acted in some notable film and television projects, but my music is still shit. I was sent here by the devil to help lower the standards.. and so were you Chris, so STFU about your cred. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-OgwDVaCiSw

Posted by Dave Matthews | September 22, 2011 12:19 PM

DMB will never have the same street cred as Spin Doctors. Try all you want DAVE

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2011 12:21 PM

Will I be able to get a ticket for $10 outside the venue at 7:49? If Spin Doctors are able to only charge $10 all bands should be able to.

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2011 12:23 PM

Paul Shaffer here, I've sat in on sessions with approximately 5,000 musicians and that evening with Spin Doctors playing their smash hit Little Miss Can't Be Wrong was the most fun I've ever had. Spin Doctors are the best musicians I've ever played with. I still think about that magical evening and feel blessed to have been a part of it.

Posted by Paul Shaffer | September 22, 2011 12:25 PM

I'll give you a little secret hint... a bald Canadian piano player from the David Letterman show might be making a guest appearance at Spin Doctors soon to be legendary show at Brooklyn Bowl.

Posted by Paul Shaffer | September 22, 2011 12:26 PM

No disrespect to the Spin Doctors inferred. In fact, when I was just starting out, I'd see those hippies coming out of Satan's office, while I was in the waiting room. They seemed like okay guys, and the Evil One said "you could learn a few things from those guys".
AND, if you are planning to go to this> http://www.bowerypresents.com/event/65249
come early, i'll be on the roof, sprinkling poop from my tour bus on people in the queue!

Posted by Dave Matthews | September 22, 2011 12:29 PM

wilco have not written any good material in at least 7 years. they should follow rem's lead.

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2011 12:34 PM

the proper grammar is "Wilco IS here"

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2011 12:39 PM

@12:34 Totally. Last record worth a damn was A Ghost is Born- and that even sounded more like Yankee Hotel Foxtrot B-sides than it's own entity.

Been listening to these guys since when Mermaid Ave came out. Having liked everything up to YHF, I tried hard to get into the new record. It's not bad, but it sure doesn't beat out any of their other albums. The appeal is that it is new. Once that novelty wears off, it will be just as forgettable as Sky Blue Sky and Wilco (the Album).

Sad to say, I think I have all of the Wilco records I need.

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2011 12:46 PM

Man, I'm torn.. I WANT to see Spin Doctors at BB, but indie-blog darlings "Hoof Hearted" are playing a secret show at Bruar Falls that night.. what do I do?

Posted by Indecisive hipster | September 22, 2011 12:46 PM

Tickets may be $25 on stubhub but you're still paying $20 in service fees... Ya dummy's!

Posted by D | September 22, 2011 12:47 PM

Screw $25 for a show. Spin Doctors are only $10. Wayyyyy better deal.

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2011 1:15 PM

^^Plus you gotta go to 40th and Broadway to pick them up.

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2011 1:17 PM

I think the new album might be a return to form for Wilco, actually. Will have to give it a few more listens before I decide, though.

Where on Bowery Presents did you see that please? Don't see it on their Twitter feed or website.

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2011 1:29 PM

Hey guys, almost every indie musician here,

I know we look and act really cool, but actually we're just super jealous/bitter we can't play our instruments half as well as almost everyone in the Dave Matthews Band (the violin player just sucks). So we all jump on the bandwagon of hating them to give ourselves street cred while we practice mashing on our pedals to mask our lack of musical ingenuity.

Posted by 90% of Indie Musicians | September 22, 2011 1:34 PM

Spin Doctors >>>> Nick Lowe >>>> Wilco

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2011 1:35 PM

Sorry 90%, I disagree. We suck, like DEFIANTLY suck. You're right, there are some gifted musicians, with insane ability, but they have to follow MY lead, and that lead is really MOR, super-bland music. (funny aside, we used to joke that we should call it the "Dave Matthews BLAND").
We focus group our songs before we make a record, with a bunch of college age white kids, and one adopted black child of white parents, who have smoked just a little pot.
They then have a dial, and as we play the demos we average out the time those dials spend on 'like' and then 'not like".. Then, we add the parts that spent more time on the like side of the scale, and toss the 'not like parts'. THose later get recycled as jams in the live set, which we don't test, because those people are a lot more stoned, and who cares.
90% If you're an indie musician who would like to be more technically proficient, but less creative, I totally support that life choice. In fact, I may be able to help get you into Berklee.
If you don't want to go that route, send me some of your stuff, c/o Dave to the ATO offices. We love getting non-committal hippie music. We may not be able to sign you, but we have a great relationship with Satan and his people, and they can help you out. Even tho, for some reason, My Morning Jacket refuses to meet with him. I'm still a fan.

Posted by Dave Matthews | September 22, 2011 1:57 PM

Dave Matthews band are ok, but Spin Doctors is a way tighter group. Dave Matthews seems more like a product put together by the record labels. Spin Doctors were friends and started up a band the traditional way. +1 to Spin Doctors.

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2011 2:00 PM

the state of this comment section is literally atrocious.

it's not even funny, just terrible. dave matthew's band? spin doctors? soundgarden? we do not speak of these things where i come from.

we do not even joke.

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2011 2:12 PM

Lighten up 2:12. You're here for a good time , not a long time. Be gone with you, lest someone dump a bucket of band poop on your head.

Posted by Dave Matthews | September 22, 2011 2:16 PM

@212 so where are you from? you must be so hardcore with tattoos of alligators killing baby puppies on your forehead

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2011 2:19 PM

Oh, and for the record: in spite of what my granola, Saab-driving kind of sound may imply about my persona , I love cocaine and women with fake t!t$. Ask anybody.

Posted by Dave Matthews | September 22, 2011 2:19 PM

these dudes think they're the shit. haven't put out a good album in 15 years. boring as fucccccccck.

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2011 2:21 PM

212 is so cool and hardcore and hipster, hes posting under a wilco thread

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2011 2:24 PM

Members of Wilco will definitely be at the Spin Doctors show at Brooklyn Bowl. Jeff Tweedy might even all sit in on a Spin Doctors song together during the encore.

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2011 2:25 PM

2:12 No one mentioned Soundgarden actually, so you totally lied when you said you never speak of it.

Posted by hey 212 | September 22, 2011 2:32 PM

I can think of plenty of people here who are FAR more "hardcore" and "hipster" than 2:12.

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2011 2:32 PM

Are in the Spin Doctors in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame?

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2011 2:41 PM

you are right 232. justin bieber comes to mind

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2011 2:42 PM

I'm well above average in Mac-savvy, and I've spent a metric scheissload of time researching, but I have yet to find any reliable information on how to slurp the entire 63+ minute Wilco "Live On Letterman" performance from whichever server CBS is using to host it. There are links a-plenty to supposed (commercial) software solutions, but 99% of them are Windows-only, and the astroturfing points to no more than about a dozen different utilites. Further, much of the methodology has been deprecated because of changes made by CBS in how they serve their archived video.

Anybody have a current solution that will work in OS X?

Posted by Span Dactyls | September 22, 2011 2:49 PM

"Are in the Spin Doctors in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame?"

what?

Posted by d | September 22, 2011 2:50 PM

Here's an easy solution, bust out some Spin Doctors music instead and all your worries will disappear.

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2011 2:52 PM

Can someone please just post real set times for the Wilco show?

Wilco: 7.45p

Span Dactyls, you're pretty screwed nowadays, and even those PC solutions are just screen grabs that will look worse than the webcast. Compared to older streaming media, this doesn't buffer up locally much at all, and in the background seems to require a constant 'ping' to keep it going.

@Steve Jobless-3:10
You get what I'm after, then. I could do a real-time screen capture with any of several utilities I already have. But I won't, for reasons of quality you already mentioned. Here's the thing: I know somebody who's done it as recently as a couple months ago with his Windows ssytem (it was a piece from CBS Sunday Morning), but he seems to have dropped off the planet lately.

Posted by Span Dactyls | September 22, 2011 4:02 PM

2:12 here. the problem with all these stupid comments is that you're preventing real information from coming to light; it just gets lost in the comments section among all the other dumb crap you guys are typing.

useful contributions in this thread:
-wilco tickets being back onsale on TM
-wilco tickets being below face on stubhub
-wilco set times

pointless contributions to this thread:
-anything mentioning hummus, spin doctors, DMB, or any other "haha it's funny cause it's terrible" band. you are giving BV commenters a bad name. keep it up, and DMB/spin doctors might actually become 'ironically cool,' which is another foot in the coffin for the music world.
