Amon Tobin last night @ BK Masonic Temple (more by Greg Cristman)

I was actually listening to ISAM on Spotify when I just learned that Amon Tobin will be DJing at Southpaw in Brooklyn tonight (10/26) after the sold out show at Masonic Temple.
In other surprise Brooklyn DJ show news, Matthewdavid and Dam-Funk will be at Union Pool tonight.

that show last night blew my brains apart.

I will be sobbing while eating my Billurburger tonight as I realize I've just made a very, very foolish mistake in not picking up a ticket to either of these shows. Oh hell. I suppose for my idiocy, I should be forced to listen to the new Crystal Stilts EP on repeat over and over until I hate The Velvet Underground. Frankie Rose, I miss you ... please do another boobie magazine shoot.

me too Dan. Are you taping the show? Also what time did he go on last night? I would imagine little earlier than 940 like on Tuesday.....
Posted by Anonymous | October 27, 2011 8:34 AM
You think earlier? I guess anything is possible. I'm hoping to get there early enough to catch at least some of Emika's set.
I'm not taping. Maybe NYCTaper will be on the scene?

Oh sorry I thought you were Dan NYCtaper guy! Anyway for those that have gone the past two nights, is this what the set time looked like?
Tues-opener 815-845
Amon 940-1110
Wed-opener 810-840
Amon 915-1045

did anyone make it to the dj set? what time were doors at brooklyn masonic last night?
Posted by Anonymous | October 27, 2011 11:10 AM
last night doors were at 7. emika 8:30-9:15. amon tobin 9:40-11:10. went to the afterparty. he came on a little after midnight and only played a handful of drum & bass tracks before he switched things over to another dj. pretty disappointing, but the room was so small and there was barely anyone there. not sure if he switched back on later, as i left after an hour.

Just to be pedantic (to some), Amon Tobin doesn't "play" anything, he hits "play" on a machine that reproduces pre-recorded content. When he starts actually making music, you can use that term to describe what he does - which is fine music, just not on the same level as a group of people that actually play instruments (requiring years of training and practice, not to mention the grace and sympathetic ear to fit in with others actually playing instruments simultaneously).
Just to get our terms straight.

while you are correct in the sense that he may more or less, "presses play" during this ISAM performance, his studio production is actually something of extreme talent and skill. his production techniques and albums are some of the most influential in the electronic music genre.
but ignorance is bliss, i suppose.

When vinyl left the scene, all djs need to do now is tap the space bar and pretend they are doing something. Everyone knows this.
Posted by Anonymous | October 27, 2011 1:33 PM
^it's true but there are a select few who actually use vinyl only. james murphy is one of them.

^LCD reunion at Southpaw tonight?

Oh my god - "a select few"?? Vinyl DJs may be in the minority these days, but there are tons of them. BV board is really lacking in informed people with at-all-eclectic taste. And James Murphy is who you name drop as being one of these vinyl DJs?? Not even gonna...

I remember when they were going to play the studio at Webster hall for trash but DJ Jess had too much hummus and Michael t was eating chips and then the band showed up and had a contract for the show but were presented pizza pies. then Brendan James was eating pork tacos. Good times!
