ASAP Rocky last week @ Creators Project (more by Ryan Barkan)
ASAP

Someone who attended Fader Fort on Friday told me about this on the street Saturday night. Not much reported about it, but Ozone Mag has a description that matches almost exactly what I heard:

"Eye witnesses tell Ozone Magazine exclusively that rapper ASAP Rocky threw quite a fit after being dissatisfied with what stage he was performing at during the Fader Fort in NYC. The artist and his crew were upset that they were performing at a smaller stage which lead to them flipping over drums. When a stage hand for Fader Fort entered the stage to try and remove the drums he was jumped by members of ASAP Rocky's crew. The entire stage was trashed and the stage hand had to leave in an ambulance. For obvious reasons, ASAP Rocky ended the show early. A statement from his camp has not been released."
Did you see it happen?

UPDATE: It seems that ASAP has ended other shows in a similar manner, so maybe it was a planned dramatic ending that this time went too far?

A video of ASAP performing at FADER before the fight broke out, below...

jerks

Posted by Anonymous | October 24, 2011 11:51 AM

Can someone please fill me in on what the deal is with this guy almost ripping off Aesop Rock's name is? Thanks.

Posted by Anonymous | October 24, 2011 11:52 AM

Premature hype results in distorted perspective of reality. Especially for New York rappers talkin about 'Texas Trill' LOL.

The closest Asap Racky has been to Texas is the Dallas BBQ on 125.

Posted by Anonymous | October 24, 2011 11:53 AM

Fader Fort was a disaster this year all around

Posted by Anonymous | October 24, 2011 11:58 AM

God damn hoods. What is wrong with these people. But as always in music, it is the fans that make this possible.

Posted by Anonymous | October 24, 2011 11:59 AM

Totally uncool!

In other words, the new Tom Waits album is great!

Posted by Anonymous | October 24, 2011 12:00 PM

yeah the sound at fader fort was atrocious...

UMO sounded like complete shit.

Posted by Anonymous | October 24, 2011 12:00 PM

What the hell is up with this clown? Does he even know how to rhyme and flow and tell a story. That dude really should listen to the artist whose name is ripped off, Aesop Rock, for a lesson in all the aforementioned.

Posted by Anonymous | October 24, 2011 12:01 PM

Do people even listen to this guy?

Posted by Anonymous | October 24, 2011 12:02 PM

here's a gif of the whole thing happening http://gifshop.tv/m/ZSL9RA49/#/original

Posted by Anonymous | October 24, 2011 12:03 PM

Baboons. Hip Hop has been dead and irrelevant for years, go back to your welfare single-mothers you subhumans.

Posted by anonymous | October 24, 2011 12:16 PM

Posted by Anonymous | October 24, 2011 12:24 PM

A FUCKIN SAP

Posted by Anonymous | October 24, 2011 12:25 PM

>A FUCKIN SAP

ha! * comment of the day

Posted by Anonymous | October 24, 2011 12:26 PM

@12:16 Morrissey, is that you?

Posted by M | October 24, 2011 12:27 PM

ASAP is the name for the extended crew. Not sure where the Rocky part came from. Either way, I find it unlikely that dude was monitoring the Def Jux scene enough to crib a name from a guy that hasn't lived in NYC for half a decade, and whose fanbase has almost zero overlap.

Still shitty if they jumped that stagehand, though.

Posted by Anonymous | October 24, 2011 12:27 PM

white people would not do this

Posted by Anonymous | October 24, 2011 12:38 PM

M, is that for Marr? It is me, sweetie! Let's have unprotected gay sex! Just like these rough hip-hop dudes love to do in jail (it is why they love to frequent those places, you know)

Posted by 12:16 | October 24, 2011 12:41 PM

Woah. Where does Aesop Rock live now? And come on, dude/tte, Aesop skills are fucking fantastic. Like the guy or not, it's your call, but you can not say he doesn't rock a sick mic. Go mic check that you fucking Billybuger eating OWS chumps.

Posted by Anonymous | October 24, 2011 12:43 PM

I think I speak for stagehands everywhere - the pay is not worth it. These corporate events are always cheap with security and let the booze flow to "create vibe" / get people+artists drunk enough to enjoy haphazard stages, production, sound. Nightmares to work, nightmares to play.

Posted by Anonymous | October 24, 2011 12:58 PM

Ahh the male ego. The stage wasnt big enough for this guys ego.

Posted by Anonymous | October 24, 2011 1:19 PM

"The closest Asap Racky has been to Texas is the Dallas BBQ on 125."

That's gold.

Posted by Anonymous | October 24, 2011 1:23 PM

Sounds like a rambling retard in that video.

Posted by Anonymous | October 24, 2011 1:33 PM

Aesop Rock has lived in SF for about 6 years, and both is/was a genius.

That genius is probably why he hasn't made the ridiculous assertion that a kid 14 years younger than him, who makes wildly different music, and is from a completely different part of NY (Huntington LI vs. Harlem), is "ripping his name off". Such a suggestion is idiotic, which is why it mainly appears in internet comment sections, and on twitter.

Posted by Anonymous | October 24, 2011 1:43 PM

fader was awesome fri ....left after main attr

Posted by Anonymous | October 24, 2011 1:59 PM

Yeeeiii bad ass zhinnies getting geeked up and stage muscle.

Posted by Anonymous | October 24, 2011 2:00 PM

Surprised there's so many backpacker trash fans here. I'd rather listen to A$AP Rocky 10x fold then the clown Aesop Rocky.

Not that I'm implying A$AP is that great, I'm actually implying Aesop Rock is that bad.

Posted by Anonymous | October 24, 2011 2:14 PM

A) This is what happens when white people so desperate for hipster cred go to such lengths to help promote a talentless, no-name, cliched-as-fuck rapper who doesn't even have an album out. From Fader to RCA records to the idiots who actually showed up for this shit.

B) umm I like Aesop rock too 1:43, but the name wasn't a coincidence. He obviously ripped him off or is trying to parody his name.

Posted by Anonymous | October 24, 2011 2:25 PM

If the crew is called ASAP, and that pre-dates their individual names, then it's pretty clear there is no connection.

Unless there's another rapper on Rhymesayers that "ASAP Twelvy" is parodying, and one more in Anticon that "ASAP Nast" is parodying. Which is unlikely.

Posted by Anonymous | October 24, 2011 2:35 PM

This ASAP Rocky guy sucks. End of discussion. Music is awful.

Posted by Anonymous | October 24, 2011 3:54 PM

dude should be given a fucking medal for ruining the Fader Fort

Posted by Anonymous | October 24, 2011 3:55 PM

12:16,

Suck my motherfucking dick.
That is all.

Posted by Anonymous | October 24, 2011 4:00 PM

2:35 - the fact that you're that familiar enough with Rocky's "crew" and the etymology of the name just makes me feel really, really sorry for you.

Posted by Anonymous | October 24, 2011 4:21 PM

Knowing something about rappers is part and parcel of being an informed rap listener.

Were there more than a few more of us that ever surfaced in the comments, maybe it wouldn't be so shocking to see actual information, rather than simply a reiteration of either "I love rap, just not the rappers that black people like" or "Rap? Goddamn Welfare Monkey clowns".

Posted by Anonymous | October 24, 2011 4:51 PM

ASAP is really A$AP (as in getting $$$ As Soon As Possible). Each dude in the group has this connotation before his name.

Posted by SpanishJose | October 24, 2011 10:02 PM

they're terrible

Posted by Anonymous | October 24, 2011 10:06 PM

well said 4:51

Posted by Anonymous | October 24, 2011 11:30 PM

odd future would not do this

Posted by Anonymous | October 24, 2011 11:38 PM

Way to embrace the stereotype.

Posted by Anonymous | October 25, 2011 9:52 AM

2:25 said more or less what I was gonna say. Well said, 2:25. I know pseudo-hip crackers from the suburbs are really desperate for some grasp of authenticity, but this ain't it.

That stage hand should not go on the stage when a rapper is performing it is a no no. Once that music is on the only dudes on that stage is the performers, entourage, and security. Any body else can get hurt by entourage because when your crew is on the set its is there time to shine and nobody else can get on that stage. It is unfortunate because from the stage hand standpoint he probably was not aware of an unwritten rule in rap not to get on stage with performers are performing.

^^
That's just dumb.
And beyond that, it makes no sense.

New jacks, asap wack. Them kids are straight baby thigh soft.

Posted by Pretty Tonie | February 25, 2012 6:23 PM

Unwritted rule in hip hop and rap? Bro I've been in show business a long time. I've done lights, sound, been a stagehand, signed the checks and been involved with on site production. Let me explan something:

Performers work because they are booked by the venue, usually through a promoter.
The venue or promoter signs the checks for the stage hands.

The "entourage" is the lowest on the totem pole..

If the talent acts like a bunch of banana crazed monkeys, they do not get hired back by the venue or promoter. It would be like smacking the shit out of your bosses child.

ASAP Rocky has dope lyrics, just check out that video thats posted....(sarcasm)

"And it's nothing short of ferocious but I swallowed the dosage"
