One of the problems with the softening of America is that every time something like this happens (or when the girl left Titus Andronicus), it requires long-winded goodbyes full of self-pity and an over-exaggerated sense of self-importance.

In the old days, people with the same love of the same music, would close up shop or break up a band with a couple words, a little more action, and a silent march on to the future.

Toughen Up You Wimps! Stop twitting and blogging and learn a little stoicism! Ain't you ever watched Mad Men?

WTF? mad men? grow up.

Posted by Anonymous | October 25, 2011 9:19 PM

this is a pretty weak last week lineup, honestly

Posted by Anonymous | October 25, 2011 9:37 PM

I'm with you, 9:16, but I've never seen Mad Men and I don't understand the reference.

no one cares

Why is cake shop stage only 1 foot high?

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 12:20 AM

Wait... why are they closing?

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 12:27 AM

Too many mediocre bands played consecutively.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 1:30 AM

Because the ceiling is 8 feet high 12:20

I can just see the doors weeping copious amounts of tears as they close for one last time.

That's because Bruar Falls, sadly, is closing.

@9:16, No, jackass, it's because we now live in a culture that over-reports everything, so literally anything that happens in the world gets imbued with a falsely inflated sense of importance.

At the same rate, your knee-jerk bitterness about one internet web site eulogizing some folks' creative endeavor betrays the fact that your own efforts probably haven't amounted to much.

PS - I doubt Don Draper would be leaving anonymous comments on internet message boards if he were around now.

Why I'm Quitting Indie Rock:

Recently my venue ended a long relationship with indie rock, and I’m relieved.

For over 25 months we devoted ourselves to peddling a product for which good work is irrelevant, because people can’t stop themselves from buying it. A product that never improves, that causes illness, and makes people unhappy. But there was money in it. A lot of money. In fact, our entire business depended on it. We knew it wasn’t good for us, but we couldn’t stop.

And then, when Bruar Falls moved their business elsewhere, I realized, here was my chance to be someone who could sleep at night, because I know what I’m selling doesn’t kill my customers.

So as of today, Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce will no longer take indie rock accounts. We know it’s going to be hard. If you’re interested in indie rock, here’s a list of agencies that do it well:

Terminal 5.

As for us, we welcome all other business because we’re certain that our best work is still ahead of us.

Sincerely,

Donald F. Draper

9:16 amen. 20 somethings of America quit being queens about EVERYTHING.

@9:01
Funny, funny, funny! You go D. Draper!

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 9:35 AM

I'm with 9:51 on being with 9:16, since I agree yet don't watch the show either.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 9:35 AM

@9:16 so true! And this line up may be the reason they're closing.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 10:27 AM

anyone know what's coming to the space? I remember before when it was the Lucky Cat. Great space.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 12:16 PM

mic check

if there aren't pictures of chairlift's ass here, who cares.

Posted by nygrump | October 26, 2011 12:33 PM

i heard there was one last show (#7) on Oct 31... http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=183769385037631

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 2:24 PM

Chairlift's ass would have been a great way to close it all out. Ever heard of a guarantee?!

Good luck to the next owners. It's a great little space if you don't constantly book 3 chord myspace rock... 4+ bands every night? That's a gig factory, not a "scene". That's what Trash Bar was for.

Posted by Anonymous | October 27, 2011 8:24 PM

If you watched more than 5 minutes of Four Tet you'd know it wasn't "knob turning". He wasn't pushing play and jumping around like a moron (looking at you John Maus). Of course, people are going to react initially to someone moving around on stage but after further inspection it's the MUSIC that matters, right?
