Emmy the Great @ Public Assembly

Emmy the Great played an excellent set at the Friday BV day party (10/21) at Public Assembly as a two-piece (Emma-Lee Moss and Euan Hinshelwood). They opened their set, one of just three at CMJ, with the lighthearted in title but not in subject manner "Dinosaur Sex," the first track off the recently released Virtue. From there, they continued to play a number of great cuts off both full lengths. Emma put her guitar down for the last song of the set, taking solely to the mic, and about halfway through the song she ventured off stage until she was encircled by the entire crowd in the middle of Public Assembly's back room. After the show Emmy recorded some songs for us outside on the sidewalk - hopefully we'll get those videos posted soon. Meanwhile more pictures from the show, below.
Another standout track from the show was "Paper Forest (In The Afterglow of Rapture)," which she recently made a video for. The video was directed by Lucy Needs, who has also directed videos for Slow Club. You can watch that video below.
Emmy the Great is also making an album with Tim Wheeler of Ash. The album is titled This is Christmas and will be released on November 21 via Infectious Music. The album features drums by Matt Tong of Bloc Party, string arrangements by Ilan Eskeri, and guitar contributions from Emmy the Great's Euan Hinshelwood. According to Emmy's site, the album features nine self-penned songs and a Phil Sepctor cover. You can download the first track, "Christmas Day (I Wish I Was Surfing)," for free at Emmy and Tim's facebook page. The album's artwork is below.

She isn't some fraud manufactured by corporate interests like Lana del Rey, so most of you hipsters wouldn't have her on your radar.
Singer-songwriter types usually bore me to death, but I saw her a couple times at CMJ and she has both the charm and songs that are the right blend of intimate, relatable, and quirky that most fail at. And she's such a cutie, too.

Agree with 7.57....but you gotta admit, she sets herself up for abuse with that name.

Unlike Laura Marling, this girl has some personality to her music.

@9:13 must be new to the scene because Emmy's be around for a couple of years and has been mentioned on here numerous times as @6:36 #2 has pointed.
@9:13 should realize that little search function at the top of the page allows one to access the archives of this site.

@12:52, The point of the post at 9:13 seems to be that despite her being around for years, she is not really talked about much outside the Brit media except for an occasional post on here, but "indie" marketing ploys get infinitely more attention and awareness overnight.
