Girls at Bowery Ballroom last month (more by Ryan Barkan)
Girls

Girls did us a favor last month and decided to play two shows at Bowery Ballroom (9/23, 9/24) even though they had previously headlined the bigger Webster Hall. Well, don't get used to it because Girls' next NYC show is happening, not down at the small Mercury Lounge or even back at Webster or Irving, but instead at the massive Terminal 5 on January 14th. Tickets go on sale Friday (10/21) at noon.

It's their only currently scheduled US show besides Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin next month. All international dates are listed, with their recent video for "Honey Bunny", below...

They put on a good show at Bowery, glad I caught that so I can skip T5.

Not as good as the Smiths.

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2011 2:03 PM

LOL-ing at this, cause they barely sold 1100 tix (bowery x 2) til the week before. and now i'm gonna laugh at the idea of them selling 3,000. when will this get moved to webster hall?

the pure dullness that is the new album+terminal 5. ugh. i miss this band, they used to be so great

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2011 2:12 PM

Terminal Hitler.

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2011 2:16 PM

the absolute worst show i saw last year. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2011 2:19 PM

Girls could also do us a favor by just not playing.

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2011 2:19 PM

Saw them at The Delancey. Can't imagine paying to see them at T5.

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2011 2:19 PM

That video is zany!

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2011 2:20 PM

I thought there were only two people in the band. The singer and one other guy, no?

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2011 2:20 PM

wow that honey bunny song is terrible.

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2011 2:21 PM

There are only three motherfuckers who are allowed to play Rickenbacker guitars: George Harrison was one. Mike Campbell is two. Roger McGuinn is three.

Try again, dudette. Oh, and Jonny has the Tele market covered so don't even go there.

To those that saw them a year+ ago: give them another chance! I, for one, caught the show last month at Bowery and was pleasantly surprised. They had a gospel trio on stage singing backup that really added to the fullness of sound and offset Chris Owen's understated vocals rather nicely.

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2011 2:25 PM

If only three motherfuckers were allowed to play Rickenbackers Rickenbacker International Corporation would go out of business, you idiot.

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2011 2:27 PM

^ Bravo. BRAVO! My Billyburger eating fool, I want to tell you how happy I am that you have used such outstanding grammar in that post. Excellent!

Nice try, 2:23, but those dudes are all dead or decrepit by now. Go back to writing 5-star reviews of the latest Bruce Sprinsteen album for Rolling Stone Magazine.

harrison is dead. i always hated mcguinn and the birds for that matter. however, campbell is a badass motherfucking player.

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2011 2:30 PM

Are they any better as a live act? When they toured with Los Campesinos a few years ago, they were terrible.

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2011 2:41 PM

Gretsch > Rickenbacker

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2011 2:44 PM

This is a joke. They'll be lucky if they sell 1,000 tickets for this.

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2011 2:45 PM

@2:44

By your logic in context of the sequence of prior posts Brian Setzer would be a better guitarist than George Harrison.

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2011 2:47 PM

This band was never great, it's a lot of emperors new clothes.

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2011 2:49 PM

A good guitarist should be able to make ANY guitar sound good. Guitar is just the instrument, its about what you do with it.

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2011 2:51 PM

"By your logic in context of the sequence of prior posts Brian Setzer would be a better guitarist than George Harrison."

Yes, this is true and the basis for my previous post. The Beatles are my favorite band but yes, Setzer is technically better than George Harrison. While The Stray Cats didn't write the most complex songs, Setzer's mix of rock, jazz, blues and country styles cannot be touched by the playing of Harrison. Setzer's solo work also didn't allow for the showing of his expertise but if you ever saw him live, you would have a better understanding of his genuine talent. I am not belittling the amazing work of George Harrison's career, I am just expressing my opinion that Setzer is technically better. Either way, they are both incredible and Girls are terrible!

new album is ok..not great...if they added the 4 best songs from the new album to last years EP -- it would be the best album of 2011

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2011 3:13 PM

^ I agree with this.

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2011 3:14 PM

wimpy pop

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2011 3:16 PM

I may be alone here but I really like the new album.

Took a few listens to sink in but I'm diggin it now. Really great texture and guitar work.

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2011 4:05 PM

Singer has no punch or presence. Drums are weak. Lyrics are terrible.

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2011 4:12 PM

Occupy Terminal 5

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2011 4:25 PM

4:12 -- don't you know singing with punch and presence is "out" now?

Chilllllllwave. Some of its good but its gotten so formulaic its funny.

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2011 5:17 PM

heroin.

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2011 5:26 PM

The Beatles are your favorite band, but you don't think John Lennon was allowed to play his black and white Rickenbacker?

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2011 5:31 PM

After seeing this her video I have to say this girl has some real talent in in my opinion and will be signed soon by a major record label.

Posted by Jim | October 17, 2011 5:42 PM

5:17 what the hell is chillwave??????

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2011 6:30 PM

i want to root for them, but the two songs i saw BV post from fallon or something(ugh) were just cringe-worthy. one was this somber acoustic song featuring the most awful, korn-b-side-esque cloying cliche lyrics "the darkness... i am sad.... i miss you.... mommy..." seriously, and the next just sounded like wavves with 30+ session players. i dont want to be overly-snarky, but watch those videos and tell me what you think.

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2011 7:24 PM

this video looks like a ryan mcginley photograph. didn't n plus one tell girls that ryan mcginley has been replaced by ryan trecartin?

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2011 9:56 PM

That Vomit sing is very good.

Posted by Anonymous | October 18, 2011 9:21 AM

I immediately ignore anyone that says the beatles is thier facorite band

Posted by Anonymous | October 18, 2011 10:59 AM

Any clue as to who will be playing with them?

Posted by Anonymous | October 18, 2011 3:13 PM

I know they're playing with Papa and Nobunny now and it might make sense that Papa stays with them for these dates since half of the band is in Girls. ANYBODY KNOW ANYTHING?!

Posted by Anonymous | October 18, 2011 3:17 PM

I immediately ignore anyone that says they don't like The Beatles.

Posted by Anonymous | December 14, 2011 5:00 PM

Terminal 5 was filled with Girls fans
Great show!!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2012 8:48 AM

Ha it's funny to go back and read this thread after seeing them absolute KILL at a sold-out T5. what a wonderful show!

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2012 1:44 PM

Was nailed to the front rail at the T5 show. Girls was amazing. First of all, the show was 100% sold out (for people who doubt their ability to sell tix). The band was solid as a rock and the joint was jumpin'!

Real Estate was incredible as well and so glad I'll be seeing them again in two weeks.
