Green DayGreen Day

Green Day has been in NYC lately, hangin with Little Steven and fighting cancer. On Thursday, 10/27 (tomorrow), they play the very small Studio at Webster Hall. Good luck getting tickets at noon.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 9:55 AM

Say what you like about the tenets of Green Day, Dude, at least they put on a great live show very fun.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 10:09 AM

I'm old. I saw Green Day opening for Bad Religion in 1993 at Roseland. That was the first I'd heard of them. Then I saw them at a CMJ showcase where they opened for the Flaming Lips at the Ritz. Finally I saw them at Iriving Plaza for the DOOKIE release party. I think that was the last I saw of them. From there it was all massive stadium shows.

Posted by Thom Yorke | October 26, 2011 10:12 AM

Green Day = mallrock for kids who missed the real thing when it came around a few times before. No Thanks.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 10:12 AM

$20 + fees... like the good old days...fuck radioheads $80...

this palce only holds 300 people though...so say 200 go to fans...2 ticket limit...only 100 people got a chance.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 10:20 AM

Is it difficult to sell a +1 if they don't give a physical ticket?

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 10:21 AM

@1012am exactly. Green Day sold out long time ago kids. If you still want to see real punk rock shows, I suggest you go see the Bouncing Souls, NOFX, Bad Religion, and any of Warped vets.....

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 10:22 AM

"price?"

$54654564484648

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 10:24 AM

10:12, 10:22 = moronic old people who still cling to an out-dated punk rock ideology that means nothing in 2011.

Oh, also, Bad Religion was on Atlantic and has opened for Blink 182. But, keep holding onto your idea of "real" punk rock if you must.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 10:29 AM

Radioheads so much more emotional and good than Green Day 4eva and eva and eva

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 10:41 AM

10:29 Green Day is on Broadway. That is just lame, regardless of ideology.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 10:42 AM

Words can't describe how much I hate BV for publicizing this.

Guess I won't be going now

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 10:42 AM

10:42, that is kinda lame, almost as lame as playing the MTV BEACH HOUSE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GqpI_EDzv0g

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 10:44 AM

Why the fuck is Radiohead more emotional? That just sounds stupid. Singing with your eyes closed and letting out an unplanned yelp every once in awhile is not emotional.

Hey - one thing is for sure...the Green Day boys could kick the asses of the Radiohead boys.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 10:44 AM

Seriously...should've not posted this.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 10:48 AM

Green Day was always a pop band, and they're good at it. Great live band, too. Punk purists need to get over it already. They never claimed to be anything but a rock band, even if their sound is reminiscent of punk.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 10:50 AM

why shouldn't BV have posted this? Now I have at least a shot at the tickets.....

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 10:53 AM

10:29, thank you. I couldn't agree more. Green Day always was what it is. A decent rock band with great pop sensibilities, using only 3 chords. That's what rock n' roll was when it started, and that's what it should be.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 10:53 AM

10:44 missed the sarcasm lecture in home room

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 11:08 AM

phish> greenday

Posted by troll | October 26, 2011 11:09 AM

Lou Reed + Metallica are going to be the opening act.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 11:15 AM

The dump I took this morning >>> Phish

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 11:16 AM

"Lou Reed + Metallica are going to be the opening act."

That actually would be great but sadly not true

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 11:18 AM

The Ramones were on Warner Bros, and the Clash was on Epic, for most of their careers. Neither of them suck.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 11:18 AM

While BV has a very wide reach as far as taste influence, I think people drastically over-estimate their impact on the scalper community. This is a band, on a major label, and this ticketweb post has been up at least all morning. Hell, they probably tweeted it. It's not like it's a transferable ticket, limit 10, for a 500 person venue, on a date 3 months in the future.

When you can't get in, I'd be far more pissed at their inevitably bloated guest/press list than a local music news blog.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 11:19 AM

I agree, major label representation doesn't necessarily give credit or take away. At the end of the day, it's up to the band. However, I have always failed to find what makes this band so interesting. I don't say that in a snarky way either. I listen to a lot of music so it's not as though I'm clueless. I recall when their first album came out. It seemed like a joke. They were parading around as punk when they clearly were nothing of the kind. Yeah, they had that one catchy soft-rock acoustic song that gets covered by every mainstream artist, but beyond that, what the fuck?

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 11:21 AM

11:21 - It's simple. Straightforward, catchy pop songs, mostly 3 minutes long, 3 or 4 chords. Solid, fun live band.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 11:24 AM

Gilman Street is all I have to say. Do some research before you start questioning what punk is and isn't.

If you don't know about Gilman or the Mabuhay Gardens in SF then you don't know shit about west coast punk.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 11:27 AM

"Words can't describe how much I hate BV for publicizing this.
Guess I won't be going now"

how did you know about this? GD fan club?

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 11:29 AM

11:18 one of them sucks - Ramones are one of the most overrated namechecked to be cool bands on the planet - witness the Ramones tshirts issued to every "music fan" in the suburbs

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 11:36 AM

"Gilman Street is all I have to say. Do some research before you start questioning what punk is and isn't.

you are so cool. and yes we all know about gilman. whoop de doo

Email sent from promoter.

I DONT WANNA BE AN AMERICAN IDIOT!! I GOTTA TAKE DOOOOOOKIE!

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 11:37 AM

The point is...shit like this is for the fans isnt it? Radiohead..Green Day..whateevr.. Arctic Monkeys did it right when it came to the MHOW show. They sent out an email THE MORNING OF..with a code. And it went onsale like 30 minutes after the email. Yes the show sold out..but it took atleast 20 minutes for it to do so. Unlike Radiohead who announced the shows a week in advance so everyone new about it.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 11:39 AM

11:39,

The Arctic Monkeys email fucked up and didn't even go out to half the list anyways.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 11:52 AM

11:19,

I agree. Never understand why people complain about a blog that barely reaches 100,000 people across the country RUINING their chances of getting tickets to the "hot show".

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 11:55 AM

The waiting room has begun!

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 11:59 AM

site is already crashing

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 11:59 AM

Is it better to sit in the waiting room or try to get inside the site?

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 12:00 PM

SOLD OUT

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 12:01 PM

Louis CK flashbacks anyone?

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 12:01 PM

haha "waiting room", the site is definitely down

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 12:01 PM

Of course it is. they probably sold 50 tickets.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 12:01 PM

site says it's sold out already

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 12:02 PM

gone @ 9:01

Posted by kyle | October 26, 2011 12:02 PM

Yes, 11:39. It's for the fans. So hold the band you're a fan of accountable, rather than scapegoating a local music blog.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 12:02 PM

got two easy at noon but then remembered I got tix for Pixies

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 12:02 PM

Well that was fun...!

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 12:03 PM

I got some. And I have no idea how.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 12:03 PM

Well that was a bust. went from not on sale to sold out in one refresh!

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 12:03 PM

sold out.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 12:03 PM

Yeah TicketWeb blows...I mean Ticetmaster sucks, but at least their site works.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 12:04 PM

Still says I'm on line?

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 12:04 PM

You're in line alone.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 12:05 PM

At least I knew I wasn't getting a ticket quickly.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 12:05 PM

Anyone of you that got through have an extra? I'll pay over face.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 12:05 PM

Got two tix. Yay, I guess.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 12:05 PM

good thing i can't stand green day! no disappointment.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 12:06 PM

How much were the tix?

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 12:07 PM

so fucked. was able to click the amount of tix i wanted, then went right to sold out. i hate ticketweb.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 12:08 PM

$20

Posted by JG | October 26, 2011 12:08 PM

i got two. they're gonna play all new stuff. ehhhh...i'll just sell my +1 for the most some american idiot pays me...which will be well over the price of the 2 i just bought ($47)

papa's gonna buy tickets to some GOOD shows now

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 12:08 PM

Ticketweb sent me to the "waiting room" for two minutes and then told me the show was sold out at 12:02.

Guaranteed scalpers got 80% of these tickets.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 12:09 PM

Had a ticket in my cart, entered all my info, then when I went to submit I got an Apache 500 Error. Ugh! Anyone else?

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 12:11 PM

if anyone has an extra, could you please email me at jetsfan47@gmail.com? would love a ticket. thanks!

Posted by jfan | October 26, 2011 12:11 PM

Ive been in the waiting room since 11:55 WTF

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 12:11 PM

Argh, I got to the Shopping Cart with 2 tix, then it gave me the dreaded "Sorry, an error has occurred." Oh well, came close....

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 12:11 PM

This site sucks. It crashed horrendously during that Louis CK debacle too.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 12:13 PM

same boat - i'm literally still have 1 ticket in the cart, so annoying...

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 12:13 PM

Sorry everyone, there was a mistake here. It's not Green Day that's playing the Studio. It's actually a Green Day cover band called Grizzle Dizzle.

Details coming very soon, folks.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 12:14 PM

Just for future reference, it is easier to get tickets at the moment tickets go on sale by searching for the event and clicking the "Find Tickets" link when it goes live. If you keep refreshing the actual link for tickets, you'll be stuck in waiting room hell.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 12:14 PM

I refreshed at 12 and probably had the smoothest time ever getting tickets. No waiting room or anything. Too easy.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 12:14 PM

somehow got 2 tix at 12:10

Not easy to do when even going to ticketweb.com puts you in a queue.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 12:16 PM

kept on refreshing even after it said sold out and got through at 12:12. Tickets are only 20. This is going to be crazy

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 12:16 PM

How am I still in the fucking waiting rooM!?!?!

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 12:18 PM

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 12:38 PM

"i still have two in my cart on the final page but it says sold out as soon as you click final purchase....crazy that you can get that far and still not get anything"

HUEHUEHUEHUEHUE!!!

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 12:58 PM

11:36 - If you don't know why the Ramones are cool, I don't know what to tell you.
At a time in the 70's when all these bloated rock bands were trying to outdo each other with BS complicated 8 minute prog-rock epics, The Ramones made rock-n-roll the way it was meant to be in the first place. 3 chords, 3 minutes, 0 BS.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 12:58 PM

12:58 I think they're "cool" (at least in the Pitchfork, name check sense of cool), but they suck musically.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 1:09 PM

1:09, as I said, 3 chords, 3 minutes, 0 BS. That's how rock n roll started, and the Ramones basically brought that back when music started to suck in the 70's. That's why they're cool. It's about seeing what they represent in the larger context of rock history. Most bands can play their instruments better, I agree, but they were pioneers.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 1:20 PM

10:29 - you're right. nothing is more "punk" than a Broadway show featuring your music, and for part of the run your lead singer.

Guess I just had a "silly old person" senior moment.

Silly hipster.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 1:23 PM

Why does rock n roll have to be complicated? Wasn't it originally created to make get up and dance?

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 1:23 PM

1:23, I don't think they ever actually called themselves a punk band. They came up from a legit punk scene in California (Gilman Street), but they always were a pop band, even back then.

^ Yes .... Thank you for defending the Ramones.

Its not a bout musucial prowess you twits, its about making cool tunes. I'd think readers on an indie blog would know this.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 4:28 PM

Ramones need no defending.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 4:53 PM

anyone who posts that the Ramones aren't cool obviously has never seen them live.

A better live band there has not ever been.

man i had no idea my ticket could be that valuable. gonna go unless someone is willing to throw me a grand. otherwise should be a fun time

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 4:55 PM

calm down, your ticket is not that valuable. Most of those posts for people offering outrageous sums for a ticket are phony and/or not exactly kosher posts. Most likely a scalper looking for bites who will offer you far less once you contact them.

That being said, anyone who would pay $700 to see Green Day is a complete idiot.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 5:16 PM

I'd pay $700 now to see the Ramones.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 5:17 PM

I'd pay $700 to see chairlift. All in $1 bills

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 7:43 PM

Yeah she did in fact serve hummus at the show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 8:19 PM

Agreed & will agree again - Ramones are cool. That's what we all are told to think & say, anyway. Musically, though, they are shit.

But shit is cool, ain't it? Shit makes you feel all different and special, like a real webel webel street fighter - rock on posers.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2011 10:16 PM

10:16 - Half the bands you listen to probably wouldn't exist if it weren't for the Ramones. The end.

Posted by Anonymous | October 27, 2011 9:02 AM

Fix'd it for ya 5:16:

LOL in a world of "chillwave" and Lana Del Rey you think tunes matter?? It's about image and style and blogability. If it were about tunes, there might have been one mention of Tom Waits' new album.

Posted by Anonymous | October 27, 2011 10:13 AM

ha ha ha ha the words poser and ramones in the same post? laughable. The ramones were and are about as real as the shit comes baby.

if you don't know that you don't know anything.

Everyone knows this sold out so quickly cause the spinnnnn ddoctors are opening up.

Posted by Anonymous | October 27, 2011 11:00 AM

Ramones = rock and roll stripped of artifice and distilled into the primal urge of volume and rhythm

Green Day = the shit that didn't sell at the high school cafeteria last week, repackaged and resold as "boutique" at Whole Foods for $20 a plate.

Wow! That show was such a dissapointment. Not gonna lie and say I am the biggest green day fan but like many people in their late 20s/early 30s they do hold a special place in my adolescent heart and I was a huge supporter in the early years, saw them open up for bad religion back in the day and it was amazing. Last night though, the energy in the room was just off and filled with american(eagle) idiots , the sound was too low, there was no ligthing (or at times too much lighting)and the song selection had most people confused and just waiting for some classic GD. I mean for gods sake they opened up their set with a butchered version of monster mash...really corny. I left after about an hour 15 mins and maybe only heard 2 songs i actually knew, one that i liked. Im sure they got into some older stuff towards the end of the set but they should have done without the opening band...who was also horrible and im guessing just friends of Billy Joe...and just gotten to business at 10:30 when showtime was scheduled instead of waiting till the tiny webster studio got to the point of packed beyond movement and playing 25 songs in a row that no one has ever heard. Kind of an asshole move and I know I'm not the only one who felt this way. So to anyone who is saying this was the best show ever, they are lying to you and probably never actually saw green day when they mattered.

Sorry you wasted the ungodly sum of 20 bucks, bro.

stop complaining. Obviously there was a reason why they played in such a tiny room for such a small amount of money. They were trying out new material on an audience. You payed a ridiculously low sum to see a gigantic band play for two hours in a ridiculously small venue. What, you also expected a greatest hits arena friendly show also? Anyone with a brain could have figured out there must have been a reason they booked this show, not just out of the kindness of their hearts.

setlist?

Posted by Anonymous | October 28, 2011 11:27 AM

lol gigantic band lol you probably think your cock is gigantic too 11:20 lol lol hey lets nobody tell this guy that 3.5 inches is actually pretty small lol lol lol

Posted by Anonymous | October 28, 2011 11:32 AM

green day is pretty obscure, you guys act like they're blink 182 or something.

Posted by Anonymous | October 28, 2011 11:35 AM

$20 to see GD in a tiny room is still pretty cool, regardless of the set list. Sometimes it's cool to let the chef set the dinner menu.

Posted by Anonymous | October 28, 2011 11:46 AM

last time they officially came around here they sold out two nights at the Garden.

Pretty obscure band.

Posted by Anonymous | October 28, 2011 11:53 AM

maybe if they sold out five nights at MSG I would say you're right. but ask the average person who green day is and they'll squint their eyes, furrow their brow and go, "oh... i don't listen to hip hop."

Posted by Anonymous | October 28, 2011 11:56 AM

the time before that they played Giants Stadium, which is equivalent to four nights at MSG.

Wow, SOMEBODY'S panties got all ruffled over someone else feeling that Green Day was not "gigantic". It's actually hilarious to see how the simple minded take an opposite point of view as an offense and feel compelled to build a straw man ("obscure", which nobody said) then throw tomatoes at the straw man, thinking that this is making any point whatsoever. It is pathetic, but also pretty fucking hilarious. Made me laugh for a good couple minutes.
OK, carry on, little one. Then, maybe you can sing us a little song or something? Whatayasay?

Posted by Anonymous | October 28, 2011 12:39 PM

11:56,

You can't be serious? They're one of the biggest bands in the world at this point.

Posted by Anonymous | October 28, 2011 12:57 PM

10:23,

Are you sure you were at the same show as me. Energy level was great. Was cool to see them try out some songs with a few Foxboro Hot Tub numbers thrown in. The encore set totally ruled as well. Sorry you're such a huge puss and can't appreciate a good time.

"Made me laugh for a good couple minutes."

yeah you got some good sense of humor there and not a lot of time to waste.

Posted by Anonymous | October 28, 2011 1:30 PM

Yeah, Green Day's not too big. How many rock bands have had a hit Broadway play running based on a recent album? How many have one of their songs repeatedly used on Network television?

The only other one I can think of is the Who.

That's not bad company.

Of course BV being BV, some idiot will now post that the Who aren't gigantic either.

Posted by Anonymous | October 28, 2011 1:33 PM

the average person does not know who The Who is. i'd say they're slightly more popular than Green Day in terms of name recognition, but both are pretty obscure if you ask me.

anyone get into the show last night that showed up without a ticket?

Were there tickets to be bought outside?

Posted by Anonymous | October 28, 2011 1:56 PM

Left after 8 minutes. Maybe 2.5 songs in. Some little girl outside questioned me as to why I'd leave after getting in. Pretty much because Green Day sucks and that show sucked (the 7 minutes I watched). Never liked Green Day but it's fun going to shows like that just because I can.

To top it off, I walk back in to the Pour House and see that the Cards are in extra innings, so I wound up winning my bet. The very same bet that I thought I lost after the 8th inning, which was the reason I left to go to Webster. Green Day sucked for a reason, I guess. I did appreciate that only a handful of fools actually dressed up in costumes.

"Wear a costume." - Get real.

for the record - 300 tix were sold to the public for this. about 11 total were purchased by scalers from our research. and I personally tracked down and cancelled 6 of those. check on ebay - only 3 tix total sold on ebay, and the other orders being scalped ended early (cause they didn't have tix anymore)

Ticketweb did not crash. all tickets were in peoples shopping carts 35 seconds after the on sale. the waiting room was up to control site traffic to avoid a crash.

Posted by Anonymous | October 29, 2011 12:44 PM

and not a single ticket went to stubhub.

On craigslist the bulk of the posts were from the same people trying to sell on ebay (who i emailed off their craigslist posts from a generic email address and their reply email addresses were amazing similar to their ebay ids and their prices were idential to the ebay prices, hmm)

LOL green day better than radiohead? get your head outta ur asses.....

Posted by Anonymous | October 29, 2011 6:01 PM

Had a ticket in my cart, entered all my info, then when I went to submit I got an Apache 500 Error. Ugh! Anyone else?
