Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 12:21 PM

gotta love ticketfly, two ticket order, total fee $10. That would be like $25 on ticketmaster.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 12:22 PM

ha. milking. nice.

gosh, jeff, will you be shaking up the set tonight? no? really. how come? oh, yeah, huh that's right ... you only stuck around for two albums and you kinda just play the same songs over and over when you "milk" it and come out of semi-retirement on occasion? aww, that's a shame. fucker. i really liked those two nmh albums, and these days i'm too pissed and disappointed in you to go back and listen to them. thanks for ruining that for me.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 12:23 PM

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 12:23 PM

Sunday's show will be better. Just sayin...

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 12:24 PM

$41 is expensive. This show is worth $20.

12:23 cries and the world turns their back in shame

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 12:36 PM

"better not add another town hall show. keep it exclusive."

Are you a scalper or just a moron know nothing with a comment like that?

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 12:36 PM

I created a music festival. What have you done?

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 12:36 PM

I did security/publicity detail for a 5,000 venue for 4 years..

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 12:38 PM

^5,000 capacity that is

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 12:38 PM

security? so you're a cop? dude. show me something CREATIVE you've done. besides munch on billyburgers and shop for used discs at soundfix.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 12:39 PM

security/publicity is a good combo.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 12:40 PM

detail (organization)..not a cop thanks for playing.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 12:41 PM

12:39 and you did????

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 12:41 PM

^Crickets...

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 12:46 PM

I don't think anyone's knocking Jeff's established body of work.

It's his inability / refusal to ever resume his career & potential in any way, but sudden willingness to trot out this endless glorified sing-along.

Seems that lots of people are happy to convince themselves that these shows are something more than they are: one dude with a guitar playing simple, well-worn old tunes.
It's nothing less & certainly nothing more, and the longer it goes on the less 'special' it transparently is.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 12:52 PM

I remember the first Loews show taking longer as well to sell than Town Hall (which was gone in a minute) I think people think Jersey City is like in Westchester or something. It's probably 30 minutes tops from Brooklyn on subway / path train and a gorgeous old theatre to boot.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 12:54 PM

sounds like 12:52 couldn't get tickets :(

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 12:56 PM

^Yeah Loews is a nice place to see a show....couldn't be easier to get to as it is a 2 minute walk from Journal Square Path...used to be shows here back in 2007..saw Beck here and a few others...go for it!

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 12:56 PM

yeah i can't justify $40 busks to see this guy. I like him but not $40 like him

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 1:02 PM

12:36 which music festival?

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 1:03 PM

Beck curating ATP next year would be awesome! Go ahead, hate on Beck now...f--kers!

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 1:03 PM

Can we get a Philly show?

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 1:14 PM

1:03 Beck is awesome..wish he would release a new album and tour again soon.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 1:17 PM

He said he'll be touring next year so West Coast dates (including stop at Coachella) plus more NYC shows.

I'm waiting....

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 1:18 PM

Thanks BV! Missed him out on ATP because of the whole badge bullshit but I'm all over this one.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 1:22 PM

1:18 I hope you're right!

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 1:27 PM

Am I supposed to know who this guy is?

Posted by Joey | October 7, 2011 1:36 PM

if he played with a band it might be worth $20, but solo acoustic?, that shit's painful.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 1:36 PM

this guy sucks donkey

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 1:49 PM

cheap, ignorant hipsters (1:02, 1:36) strike again.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 2:01 PM

^I didnt say the original comments you are refrencing but I dont think it is being cheap..Some people think seeing Coldplay is worth $100...I wouldn't pay $1..doesn't make me cheap....

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 2:15 PM

occupymytaint

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 2:17 PM

Serves these hipsters right for those douchey carjacking comments back in July for the SG show in Newark.

Enjoy Jersey City fellers!!!

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 2:21 PM

^huh what comments?

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 2:22 PM

^I didnt say the original comments you are refrencing but I dont think it is being cheap..Some people think seeing Coldplay is worth $100...I wouldn't pay $1..doesn't make me cheap....

Its not about being cheap but trying to judge what something should cost overall based on how you feel about it is really not relevant to anyone but you

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 2:32 PM

After seeing him twice at ATP, I would pay $25 to see him again.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 2:43 PM

"yeah i can't justify $40 busks to see this guy. I like him but not $40 like him"

really? wow. how much did you spend on lunch today?

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 2:47 PM

"cheap, ignorant hipsters (1:02, 1:36) strike again."

actually hipsters are the ones who follow this untalented loser. some people just have common sense

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 2:57 PM

LOVE when they announce a saturday show after a sunday show sells out. sunday suckers.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 3:04 PM

2:47 - I'm not a previous commenter - You spend $40 on lunch? Where do you eat lunch? I try to make a rule to never spend more then $35 on a single show (festivals excluded). It's a great rule - I'm generally in better venues & rarely find myself seeing artists phoning in greatest hits sets.

I've seen two movies at that space & it's gorgeous. Probably a nice way to see him.

I saw him day 1 at ATP and... sorry but I agree with 12:52 - that comment nailed it.

'Joey,' yes, you're supposed to know who he is. Also you should know that proclaiming ignorance about something is never an insult to anyone or anything but you.

Posted by Sick in bed | October 7, 2011 3:05 PM

@305 I wasn't saying you spent $40 on lunch. I was saying that you probably spent 1/3 to 1/2 of the ticket price on lunch. It was a relative assessment.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 3:10 PM

and i don't even want to list the shows you must have missed last year/this year if you were actually living by your $35 rule. absolutely terrible rule to live by.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 3:10 PM

Hahahahaha so 3:05, based on your "rule," you are implying that no single musical act is worth paying more than $35 see? That is beyond stupid.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 3:12 PM

would be nice if a zombie elliott smith came back and kicked this guys ass.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 3:22 PM

@312 is right, that's just a sad rule to live by. i'd make a list as to why, but no. it should be obvious to you and everyone else.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 3:28 PM

305 while you're sitting in your living room caressing your two $20 bills that you saved by not going to this show, i will be in jersey city, in a beautiful venue, watching a musical legend perform 20 feet away from me. i will be $40 poorer, but you will still be poorer in every other definition of the word.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 3:33 PM

3:22 I think I man-love you
let me buy you dinner!

..Why ? they aren't really alike at all.. and as much I love Elliott Smith's music he was so hooked on smack for the last 4 years of his life he wasn't kicking anyones ass but his own..

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 3:45 PM

ding dong, hit the bong.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 4:16 PM

2:57: Exactly. I think that guy got mixed up there.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 4:23 PM

I sure do miss Elliott Smith. But I think he and Mangum come from different schools of thought.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 4:42 PM

Who's Jeff Magnum?

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 4:56 PM

While that random dude's $35 max is pretty arbitrary and silly, I would say that at least before fees, your average great show costs less than that. All he's really missing out on are shows at T5 and the Garden, along with the occasional Radio City/Town Hall shindig.

I pay over $35 semi-frequently, but I also go to a shitload of concerts. I'd say that the bulk of the things I see (90%, give or take) cost less than that. If he's only missing out on elaborate corporate shit, he probably is better off.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 4:59 PM

Jeff Magnum is a white pornstar. Jeff Mangum is a musician.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 4:59 PM

@459 obviously there are tons of great shows under $35 (i.e. everything at webster/bowery/mhow/merc/etc.). but no one can deny that this guy has been missing some unforgettable concerts by creating this $35 rule. it is very arbitrary and silly. very.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 5:05 PM

THE DUDE IS COMPLAINING ABOUT PAYING 40 DOLLARS FOR A JEFF MANGUM ORCHESTRA TICKET. HE CAN GO FUCK HIMSELF.

phreal.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 5:11 PM

3:45, just to clarify, that's not quite accurate. ES was clean when he died. For several years prior, yes, it was QUITE the opposite. But he was clean for the better part of a year before he died.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 5:15 PM

I'm pretty stoked for the Sunday show, actually, since I live about 7 minutes from the venue. NJ P.A.T.H. train!

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 5:17 PM

Who cares if he plays the same goddamn songs and it's a big sing along? THEY'RE GOOD SONGS!

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 5:58 PM

yeah and 95% of the people going never got to see him play when he was active.. You think Bon Iver or Fleet Foxes or whatever current band with only two records out have more varied setlists ?
Also I wouldn't be surprised if all this leads to new songs..

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 7:49 PM

I wish there was a hummus flavored gum.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 9:40 PM

I wish there was a hummus flavored gum.

MAN, that would be some good GUM

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2011 10:30 PM

Dear everyone complaining about the price,
Stop being poor.

Posted by QUINN | October 7, 2011 11:35 PM

Good thing I sold all my Town Hall tickets last week before he added this NJ show.

Posted by Ticket Scalper | October 8, 2011 2:22 AM

A) he's played maybe five shows in the last ten years - and he's milking it?

Posted by Anonymous | October 8, 2011 11:40 AM

B) loewes and I believe the others were non-ticketed/will call only - there was no scalping.

Posted by Anonymous | October 8, 2011 11:41 AM

look at stub hub under his name..

Posted by Anonymous | October 8, 2011 1:57 PM

Town Hall is hard tickets. I've got one and there are a bunch on stubhub.

Posted by Anonymous | October 8, 2011 3:05 PM

really? thats sucks. he's trying!

Posted by Anonymous | October 8, 2011 4:34 PM

Guys, seriously shut up about who did what and what accomplishment holds greater significance. If you are no longer a fan, don't waste time talking shit. It is annoying really. Do any of you actually love the music? I bet most of you just love hearing the sound of your voice. Cut it out. The show was a beauitful, powerful experience and it would have been less perfect if some of you people came out. Anyway. He drew quite the intelligent and polite crowd, it was holy; it was the most beautiful concert I have ever attended. I am still shaking. Thank you jeff for being a beautiful soul. You know, it was probably people like you that could have even made him run off of the scene. I mean, I don't know that's simply speculation, but with all the pretention and superiority complexes it pains me, truly. Please be kind. And love the music for what it is. Is art dead ( in all forms)?

Posted by Anonymous | November 6, 2011 10:41 AM

was there an opening act last night? was there any hassle with will call?

Posted by Anonymous | November 6, 2011 3:35 PM

There was an opening act. The guy has done stuff with jeff before. No hassle at all. It was quite perfect.

Posted by Anonymous | November 7, 2011 12:21 PM

Jeff is donating a lot of the money to charity. That is why the merch at the show was all 20. You guys need to calm down. Enjoy the music!!
