Steve Jobs

The sad news spread quickly last night. Everyone knew he was sick, but that didn't make it any easier to comprehend. Every single person I told, or who told me, had a major reaction. Apple says:

Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple.
Rest in Peace Steve Jobs.

He's in the iCloud now.

That's right, 9:38. Now there's a shortage of "Jobs"!

(I know, I know, terrible joke - but I wonder if the stock is gonna take a hit)

I love my iPod, my macbook and my iPad. I can't wait to get the iPhone 4S. Thank you Steve Jobs for your contributions to the world.

I wonder if Jobs was a regular reader. He was a music fan.

RIP Steve

RIP man...I remember the folks shelling out $1800 for our first apple 2GS in 86!

Posted by Anonymous | October 6, 2011 10:01 AM

RIP for sure.

Love my iPod and iPhone however, I can't seem to justify the upspend on a Mac v. PC since I don't do anything in the way of graphic design, photo or film editing. For those of you in the same boat, is there any reason to get a Mac?

RIP Steve. 56 years is way too young for anyone to die.

Apple is not a tech company, but a marketing company. Madison Ave would be proud.

Damn shame. I don't really care for most of the products, and definitely not their acolytes, but he was an innovative genius that really changed the game for all platforms, and business in general. 56 is too damn young.

Steve Jobs thought up the strategy to donate Apple IIe computers to public schools all over the USA. It was a brilliant strategy, in that us who were kids at the time grew up using these funny machines, and when we grew up and had money to spend Apple was already a part of our consciousness.

For this alone, he should be hailed as a uniquely American capitalist genius.

RIP Jobs! You changed the way the world communicates with each other, you were a huge fan of Galaxie 500, MyBlVal, and Glenn Branca. Rock on, you rocked the world!!

Posted by Anonymous | October 6, 2011 10:21 AM

I never even thought about that... it's true, anyone who is in their late '20s played on an Apple computer as a kid.

Whether you like Apple products or not, it can be stated that he not only had an impact on the technology as we know it today, but also on how we listen to music, and on modern culture as a whole. His creativity and entrepreneurial spirit will be missed.

How ironic (eh? eh?) that I found out about this from the CNN update on my iPhone.

Going at 56 sucks ass. I wonder if Wozniak has said anything yet.

Yeah, Apples were in many of my high school classrooms, and that's the computer my dad used. So I grew up with Macs and don't really know how to use PCs, despite using the latter for a couple years at a few short-term jobs. Ha-ha. Jobs.

This is the first time I ever heard of this guy.

Posted by Anonymous | October 6, 2011 5:14 PM

fuck him. cut all philantropy programs when he took over apple, commanded a corporate monopoly whose stock sells for $400 a share (um, remember the whole occupy wall street thing?) and was worth billions and never gave a SINGLE FUCKING DOLLAR to help anyone in need. nearly everyone who worked directly under him agreed he was a complete asshole who treated his workers like peons. and all for what? so we can play angry birds at work when we're bored on a phone that will be obsolete within months? and we can pay twice as much for a laptop that does HALF of what a normal laptop does?
