this is pretty awful.

Superchunk should have thrown in the towel 20 years ago.

This cover adds nothing to the original except suck.

It was so awesome when they played this at House of Vans.

Posted by Anonymous | October 31, 2011 12:32 PM

but if they threw in the towel 20 years ago there'd be no majesty shredding and majesty shredding rocks as much as anything in the past twenty years

Posted by Steve | October 31, 2011 12:36 PM

Majesty Shredding is a killer album.

Posted by Anonymous | October 31, 2011 12:40 PM

people hating on superchunk need to realize they suck

Posted by Anonymous | October 31, 2011 12:43 PM

Superchunk weren't even at the front of the pack in 1993 when they were young and sort of worthy of mentioning. They were always just college rock done "lofi" and pretty boring.

I don't get why anyone young today would dig them up. I suppose the main guy made a lot of dough putting out Arcade Fire and Neutral Milk Hotel records and has invested a pile of that cash into pushing publicity that his own old band is "relevant history."

What's gross here isn't that he's so pathetic and can't let go... but instead that indie kids are so spoonfed that they immediately buy the publicists line and - voila - Superchunk is an "important" band all of the sudden.

Posted by Anonymous | October 31, 2011 12:51 PM

New album is one of their best and they are better live than 99% of young "indie" bands. Anyone hating is a moron.

Posted by Anonymous | October 31, 2011 12:53 PM

there was never anything super about Superchunk. totally average, got popular because of a mediocre joke song: "slack motherfucker."

Posted by Anonymous | October 31, 2011 12:54 PM

Mac the singer must really want to get laid playing live shows out on the road. Why else go to the trouble of putting a phony reunion band together and laying out a bunch of money to convince dumbass youngsters that your 20 year old band was important?

Did he just get divorced or something? Maybe he just wants an excuse to get away from the wife and fuck young girls in hotel. Dude is rich and old. GO BUY AN ISLAND OR A CASTLE SOMEWHERE BRO.

Posted by Anonymous | October 31, 2011 12:59 PM

um, mac is married to laura, superchunks bassist and co-founder of merge records. you people don't know what you're talking about in any capacity. nice attempt at trying to be snarky though.

Posted by Anonymous | October 31, 2011 1:03 PM

"people hating on superchunk need to realize they suck"

Uh, that IS the reason why we hate on Superchunk. Because we realize they suck.

Posted by Anonymous | October 31, 2011 1:08 PM

He's married but not to Laura. His wife is a chef: http://www.foodandwine.com/articles/an-indie-chefs-greatest-hits

Majesty Shredding is one of their best.

It's unfortunate that so many people on here have no taste.

Great band, good fun cover. Don't download it if you don't like them.

Posted by Anonymous | October 31, 2011 1:08 PM

probably the most annoying voice i've ever heard. incredibly whiny

Posted by Anonymous | October 31, 2011 1:08 PM

12:59 one of the most uninformed idiots pretending to know what he's talking about that has ever posted in these ridiculous anonymous comment threads on this site.

Posted by Anonymous | October 31, 2011 1:09 PM

I don't know about the conjecture about mac wanting to lay young women... but I do know that Superchunk aren't worth your time.

They have been boring for 25 years now!

Posted by Anonymous | October 31, 2011 1:19 PM

mac and laura WERE married, but got divorced in the 90s. that's what most of the album Foolish was about. it was written and recorded as the break-up was happening.

Posted by Anonymous | October 31, 2011 1:20 PM

all snark aside, this is a cover whose only use is to make people want to hear the original.

Posted by Anonymous | October 31, 2011 1:25 PM

they are not married to each other 1:03/1:09.

sadly, it is you are misinformed

Posted by Anonymous | October 31, 2011 1:29 PM

this cover blows

Posted by Anonymous | October 31, 2011 1:30 PM

12:51- Not true. I remember seeing them at the Ritz (with Pavement opening for My Bloody Valentine) in 1992 and there was a lot of buzz/hype around them.

Posted by Anonymous | October 31, 2011 1:30 PM

If it wasn't for Superchunk, all the haters out there would have no music in their itunes.

Posted by Anonymous | October 31, 2011 1:31 PM

I have been known to dabble in a superchunk song or two; I have found them to be enjoyable without leaving too much of an aftertaste.

Posted by Anonymous | October 31, 2011 1:36 PM

SUPERCHUNK INVENTED ALL MUSIC

Posted by Anonymous | October 31, 2011 1:54 PM

SUPERCHUNK is a hug who cares

Posted by Anonymous | October 31, 2011 2:02 PM

Guys, can we PLEASE decide whether or not this band is good? I'm seeing a lot of disagreements here.

Posted by Anonymous | October 31, 2011 2:18 PM

^ A good idea would be to listen to them and decide for yourself if they are good or not.

Posted by Anonymous | October 31, 2011 3:06 PM

Titus cover is better.

Posted by Anonymous | October 31, 2011 3:32 PM

THEY'RE NOT GOOD

Posted by Anonymous | October 31, 2011 3:38 PM

i love this band more than any other band.

Posted by Anonymous | October 31, 2011 3:39 PM

Tons of bands covered this song. Yo La Tengo covered it Titus. J Robbin's new band, Office of Future Plans, covered it at Glasslands on Saturday night. Countless punk bands.

Posted by Anonymous | October 31, 2011 3:39 PM

3:06, who has time to listen to every band on this site when the comments section usually has such helpful insight on whether or not bands are good?

Posted by Anonymous | October 31, 2011 4:10 PM

saw Superchunk at Liberty Lunch in 1994. They were as plain jane indie rock as you could imagine. super fucking boring

Posted by Anonymous | October 31, 2011 4:30 PM

4:30, what's the best band you ever saw live?

Posted by Anonymous | October 31, 2011 4:33 PM

4:33, it was Green Day, the other night at Webster Hall. Say what you will about Green Day, but they put on a good show very fun live.

Posted by Anonymous | October 31, 2011 4:39 PM

4:39 is not 4:33

Posted by Anonymous | October 31, 2011 5:37 PM

True. It's six seconds later.

Posted by Anonymous | October 31, 2011 5:40 PM

2011 - the year of a million shitty Misfits covers.

Posted by Anonymous | October 31, 2011 7:08 PM

I feel bad for people that don't appreciate Superchunk

Posted by Anonymous | October 31, 2011 8:48 PM

I hate the fact that people have been hoodwinked into allegiance to always mediocre bands like Superchunk.

just being from the 90's isn't enough, people!

Posted by Anonymous | October 31, 2011 10:22 PM

these guys were always posers

Posted by Anonymous | November 1, 2011 1:53 AM

Wow, I didn't realize that Superchunk incited such hatred.

I've never loved them, but I always thought they good, and I saw them a couple of times in the nineties.

This is one band that would be greatly served by a "Best of" album, because every one of their records has at least one or two stellar, catchy songs. Like several interesting nineties bands, I felt like they were a singles band caught up in an album-heavy era.

Posted by Anonymous | November 1, 2011 3:44 AM

why do I feel like all the negative comments are coming from the same sad person... ?

Posted by Anonymous | November 1, 2011 6:55 AM

Yeah superchunk always sucked

Posted by Anonymous | November 1, 2011 9:05 AM

God, The idiots on BV comment section these days seem like they belong to the "Tea Party" movement of indie rock..

Posted by Anonymous | November 1, 2011 11:46 AM

11:46, What does that mean?

Posted by Anonymous | November 1, 2011 1:01 PM

Different person here. Saw Superchunk in a cafe at UMass in 1991. Every person there was thinking the same thing: "I know we're supposed to like this band, but other than Slack Motherfucker, which is kinda ok, this band is really boring." Then we all went home and got stoned and listened to something more interesting.

Posted by Anonymous | November 1, 2011 1:37 PM

11:46, What does that mean?
>

full of hate , short on facts

Posted by Anonymous | November 1, 2011 1:58 PM

how many facts does one need to cite to persuasively express that Supoerchunk are an overrated college rock trend band from 20 years ago, who were only ever popular in the first place because of a novelty song (see: "slack motherfucker")

Posted by Anonymous | November 2, 2011 10:49 PM

superchunk for the win
