The Big Sleep

As their own press release reads:

Considering how quiet they've been over the past couple years, you'd think the Big Sleep decided to suddenly take their name seriously after the tireless tour cycle behind 2008's Sleep Forever LP. The truth is much simpler...

"We took a little break, worked on stuff separately and just lived our lives," explains bassist/vocalist Sonya Balchandani.

"It obviously took longer than we thought it would," adds guitarist/vocalist Danny Barria, "but I wasn't feeling rushed or pressured. I just wanted to write good songs."

The Big Sleep will release Nature Experiments on Frenchkiss Records on 1/31. They played a few shows during CMJ and they play another one in Brooklyn tonight (10/28).

i think she was married to the band's old drummer

Posted by Anonymous | October 28, 2011 3:51 PM

I can't decide if I like here, I would need to see her in a spandex leotard.

Posted by Anonymous | October 28, 2011 3:57 PM

^ Yes. That should clear it up for me too. Should we start a kickstarter for her?

Posted by Anonymous | October 28, 2011 4:11 PM

yawn

Better looking in real life. Good to see a Big Sleep post and I'd hit it comment. Reminds me of the days before this site sucked (not your falt BV, content is still great...just the lame ass forced meme comments)

Posted by Anonymous | October 28, 2011 4:17 PM

Lame ass forced meme comments? "Hitting it" is not a forced meme. When I say I'd "hit it" or "would", I'd sincerely hit it. I don't take it lightly.

Posted by Anonymous | October 28, 2011 4:23 PM

is that a picture of two dudes?

Posted by Anonymous | October 28, 2011 4:25 PM

"Hitting it" is not a forced meme bc it came before the era of forced memes. I'd say Daft punk and hit it are the only authenticc BV memes.

Posted by Anonymous | October 28, 2011 4:29 PM

Uh 4:23, 4:17 said it was good to see an "I'd hit it" comment AS OPPOSED to lame ass forced meme comments.

Posted by Anonymous | October 28, 2011 4:32 PM

That's funny. "Authentic BV memes." Someone needs a life.

Posted by Anonymous | October 28, 2011 4:32 PM

I stand corrected. I was in fact being commended for my "I'd hit it" comments. I see. Thank you.

The hummus meme will forever be tattooed in my brain. And it's side points as well, such as: pita triangles, mamouns, baby carrots, sabra, and phyto-nutrients.

Posted by Anonymous | October 28, 2011 4:43 PM

so excited for a new record. FINALLY!

Posted by susan | October 28, 2011 4:56 PM

Frohawk is the only relevant meme to come out of BV in a long time, and he's here to stay.

This band, however...

Posted by Anonymous | October 28, 2011 5:19 PM

I cannot wait for this album. Caught a few live shows & the new stuff is fresh & fierce as ever. The Big Sleep rock.

Posted by Allie Cat | October 28, 2011 5:27 PM

@519...frohawk is the ultimate entry level BV meme. The Arcade Fire of memes.

This band, however ain't too bad. Classic brooklyn vegan endorsed band. They have been around since frohawk was was getting D's in highschool gym class. I'd say the've stayed nicely.

Can't wait to hear the new songs! No other band sounds like this one—the dark, wide-open spaces. SLEEP FOREVER is a great album.

The big meh? Does that work?

Posted by Anonymous | October 28, 2011 10:31 PM

gross chick...looks like a dude. go die in a ditch.

Posted by Anonymous | October 29, 2011 12:53 AM

I always like the Arcade Fire fart in the pit meme. It had potential but never really caught on.

Posted by Anonymous | October 29, 2011 12:59 AM

FROHAWK.

Posted by Anonymous | October 29, 2011 3:05 AM

What is this brown bitch doing with these white niggas? Races shouldn't mix like this.

Posted by Anonymous | October 29, 2011 10:17 AM

This girl has the most polarizing ascetic since Lana Del Rey apparently.

Posted by Anonymous | October 29, 2011 3:45 PM

wow. so sexism is so refreshing compared to hummus references? do you long for the days of segregation too, 4:17?

Posted by Anonymous | October 29, 2011 4:07 PM

The Latkes meme will forever be tattooed in my brain. And it's side points as well, such as: pita triangles, sabra, and phyto-nutrients.

Posted by Anonymous | October 29, 2011 8:16 PM

Back again? Who are they? I need to know what I missed

Posted by Anonymous | October 30, 2011 3:09 PM

they were terrible when i saw them

Posted by Anonymous | October 30, 2011 4:30 PM

I always thought they were a good live act, especially if you like this type of sound.

Posted by Anonymous | October 30, 2011 10:11 PM

This band is still alive? Didnt they keep changing drummers? Is that brown one, I guess a , Indian 7-11 type , a transvestite? I saw him on Bedford, but that is not two guys right? The white guy got a arm that looks like cottage cheese , how does he play with no muscles ? I want to check out a show because I want to see if they need a drummer.

Posted by bigbassbro | November 3, 2011 12:00 AM

I saw them a while ago ,they are ok. That "brown" lady is a lady. Her hands would be bigger if she was a dude. Her face is sorta on the manly side ,but thats what you call a butter face, but if she has no ass, then it's a "no thanks". I really can't remmeber their songs specifically, but I did see them on a bill with some other band and it's good background music for getting DRUUUUNk
