The Horrors @ Webster Hall
The Horrors

"Those who arrived early got a special surprise with The Stepkids. Hailing from Connecticut and with an album on the way from L.A. label Stones Throw, The Stepkids are the band you absolutely must see as soon as possible. The trio took the stage dressed in all white, and the house lights dimmed to near complete darkness. Swirling, brightly colored images projected off their outfits and the screen behind the group as they moved from one blissfully psychedelic tune to the next. Their harmonies are tight and their rhythms even more so. As the projections moved into shades of blue and green, it felt like the audience had dove headfirst into some funky, underwater paradise. As the set progressed, so did the intensity of the rhythm, until they concluded with "Cup Half Full," a tune so rousing that the crowd seemed almost unprepared for it." [LA Weekly]
The Horrors & The Stepkids brought their tour to Webster Hall on Tuesday night (10/4). Here are some pictures and the headliner's setlist. More below...

They were fucking crap at ATP. I could see how they're successful as a middling Euro-festival band, but not a single thing to recommend as anything other than background noise.

their soundcheck at ATP made me wanna rip my eyes out.

yep, saw them at ATP... mad boring. I liked "still life", but man does that track get old fast.

Everyone from Connecticut is an asshole.

Fucking kids will spend money on anything!

Saw this line up at the Portland music fest a couple weeks ago. The Stepkids were pretty good. The Horrors' sound was terrible. It's like their sound guy didn't know how to work a sound board and thought, if I put it louder, no one will notice how terrible this sounds.

Hmm,

Really love their last 2 albums. Perhaps you're all just a bunch of stupid assholes?

Posted by Anonymous | October 6, 2011 3:48 PM

Perhaps...

their albums are ok, not outstanding, but nice to listen to... but live, something happens and it sounds loud and terrible.

Posted by Anonymous | October 6, 2011 3:57 PM

heavy drums, really amped LOUD... but i enjoyed the show, a real throw back to yesteryear, but they did a good job...

The show was great. The Horrors never disappoint. The sound was not mixed well for sure. But if you're a true Horrors fan you can overcome that.

They sucked at ATP. I was giving them a fair chance cuz all the hype, but after the first few songs I was dozing off and headed to the snack bar and ordered up some hummus.

I guess I was the only one that liked their set at ATP. Oh well... They were a bit over the top w/ their sound check, but I thought they put on a good show.

I think the wall of noise they create would be hard to recreate live. Sounds like the need to hone in on that. It's definitley not that minimalist crap that most of you enjoy.
