Soft Moon

Luis Vasquez (better know as Captured Tracks' Soft Moon) played a pair of NYC shows this past week due to the cancellation of their dates with Mogwai. Saturday night saw Soft Moon perform at 285 Kent Ave with White Ring and Beige, while Wednesday (10/5) they hit Home Sweet Home. The shows were a primer for Soft Moon's forthcoming Total Decay EP due on Halloween. One of the songs was recently blessed with Pitchfork's "Best New Track". How were the NYC shows?

Here are some pictures from 285 Kent. More of them below...

I was really excited for this show... and the whole thing sucked front to back.

Beige showed up half an hour late. Took and hour to sound check. Sound engineer was a fucking dunce.

White ring had their fucking laptop cum unplugged 5 times... only to then have that annoying Alice Glass rip off lip synch.

The Soft Moon was just quiet... out of synch and well boring. The only thing that was kinda cool was their light show paired with that black and white lines on the wall at 285.

I cannot stress enough how bad this show was. Probably the worst show I have seen in 2011.

I keep hearing how bad White Ring is live. I'm going to see them later this month

Nah, White Ring is actually amazing live. I've seen them a few times and really wanted to go to this show...alas, I couldn't make it. Next time.

I was in the back and couldn't see anything.... I thought Soft Moon sounded great and that White Ring was actually playing records/mp3's.....

Luis is a tiny, creepy tool. Usually an ego like his takes a decade to grow and flourish. He has certainly found the fountain of egotistical youth on his worldly travels.

It would be nice if he could write a song that wasn't one repetitive riff with yelping over it too, but his doucheness has nothing to do with the blandness of his "art".

sounds like he breaks up with people pretty hard too, 11:53am

This show really was a mess. I won't even type the name of the group who played before Soft Moon. And it seems that the PA was off for the first 4 songs of Soft Moon's set. When the PA kicked in they sounded great. But my mood was already spoiled, thinking "how the fuck does this sound so bad" for 4 songs, and being utterly disgusted and depressed by how bad the other group was.
