Weekend @ Stratosphere Sound
Weekend

Like last year, a bunch of bands were invited to Stratosphere Sound studios during CMJ to record a couple of songs with recording engineer Geoff Sanoff. The songs are going to be released via Insound for free soon (look out for one to premiere on BV as well). Bands included Caveman (who played like 10 CMJ shows and the BV Hold Steady show a month before CMJ), WATERS, Weekend (who played the BV official showcase and in a Puma store), Gauntlet Hair (who played a BV day party too), Widowspeak (ditto), 1,2,3 (that's the name of a band), and Tall Ships. Here are some pictures from the day (Friday, 10/21). They continue below...

Yo, guitar geeks: What's up with that white with gold trim guitar? It looks like a Gretsch White Falcon, and I'm pretty sure it is, but the headstock is all fucked up and doesn't look like what comes on a GWF. Thoughts?

^ Hmmm, and after looking at the neck, that looks all wrong too. Almost like something that would be on a Strat.

It's a Cobra Guitar. Jimmy from Caveman makes them

I vaguely remember one of the bands talking about crafting their own guitars. I don't know guitars, but that is probably the guitar you are talking about.

And they say America doesn't create anything anymore tangible. Well this is living proof.

Weekends guitarist is a fine piece of ass

If you watched more than 5 minutes of Four Tet you'd know it wasn't "knob turning". He wasn't pushing play and jumping around like a moron (looking at you John Maus). Of course, people are going to react initially to someone moving around on stage but after further inspection it's the MUSIC that matters, right?
