Samhain @ Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin

Danzig, complete with Danzig, Samhain and Misfits sets, was supposed to play at 8:15pm at Fun Fun Fun Fest last night (11/4). He didn't finally get on stage until 9:00 which was especially noticeable at the Austin festival which otherwise runs completely on time. You could tell it wasn't the fest's fault too. During the entire 45 minute delay, Danzig's stagehands were constantly doing random stuff, most notably putting up blue tarps on either side of the stage - a clearly unplanned action that was apparently supposed to make the stage warmer. Around 8:45 a guy came out and started crossing songs off the setlist.

People were booing loudly by the time Danzig finally took the stage.

All seemed to be forgiven though as the intro played and then Danzig belted out his first notes to the chilly and somewhat impatient crowd who were now cheering loudly. Glenn never said sorry for his tardiness though. He was also clearly struggling with his voice thoughout the set and did not seem comfortable on stage. He kept chewing things too (I figured for his throat). He ran off stage during the show twice - once to attack someone I think, and another time to "check the monitor".

After about 30 minutes of Danzig songs, they left the stage and came back with a new lineup to do Samhain which to me was the highlight of what we got. Danzig started the Samhain set masked (see above). Like in NYC, there were different backdrops for each set, but they were having some trouble getting them up and down - which only added to the disaster that was unfolding.

Around 9:50 it was Misfits time. The place went especially nuts as the massive presence that is Doyle entered the stage and they broke into it.

I was wondering what the curfew was, but optimistically thought maybe they were allowed to go later at this new venue (Auditorium Shores). Wrong. At 9:55 Danzig announces that they're shutting him down in 5 minutes. They had only played 1 Misfits song. He said "don't blame me" and asked the crowd if the organizers ever heard of "a thing called a riot" and urged the organizers to come on stage and tell the crowd themselves.

The crowd was obviously not happy, and Danzig was egging everyone on. By 10:00 we had only heard 2 Misfits songs and the set was over. All power was turned off on the stage. Did Danzig at this point apologize for coming on 45 minutes late? No, of course not. Instead he and the band stayed on stage for about 15 minutes longer riling the crowd up and acting like victims themselves.

No chanting or threat of riot could get the power back on though and eventually Danzig and band left the stage for good. The crowd hung around though, for a little longer, chanting and throwing bottles on the stage until cops came in and urged eveyrone to go home. Despite screams of "pig" and a few bottles even hitting cops, the cops stayed calm and so did the crowd for the most part. Everyone eventually left.

The fest has since faced criticism for "shutting down Danzig" by some fans, and so FFFFest booker Graham Williams took to Facebook to tell his version of the story (as one commenter wrote, "I thought Big Freedia was the only Queen Diva supposed to be playing this festival!"). Read Graham's story along with some videos of it all, below...

Danzig's Set Gets The Plug Pulled

Danzig Gets shut down fun fun fun fest 2011

Danzig Legacy Set Cutoff Aftermath - Fun Fun Fun Fest 2011

Hi. I book the fest. Those that are hating could NOT be more wrong. Yes, someone has your money and ripped you off. His name is Glenn. Stop by his house in LA with some kitty litter in trade for your refund, but we still had to pay him and he didn't deserve it after what he pulled. Here is how it went down...check the timeline:
-glenn flies in this morning and says he has a cold and doesn't want feel like playing the show. he demands french onion soup and vitamins brought to his hotel suite. he wants to soup now and wants it hot. we get it.
-glenn says it's freezing in austin and he can't go on. says it's going to be 28 degrees tonight and he won't perform (keep in mind, it's currently 71 and sunny with a night forecast of maybe 50+). he says we have to move the show/festival inside if we want him to play (obviously, that's not possible).
-we rent stage heaters (no other bands, public enemy, mcd, passion pit, etc need or want heaters on's warm up there and not cold out) for glenn per demand, as well as bring in an onsite doctor to make him happy and be there if his cold doesn't go away.
-agents and managers assure us he's going to play now.
-glenn's band/crew arrive before him in the afternoon and load gear. they said it all works, they get up the danzig banner, check lights, are happy.
-glenn arrives at 7:45 (half hour before showtime, they go on at 8:15 exactly and have a 90 min set...park curfew by the city/police is 10pm sharp)...when he arrives, he says he's not going to play. says he doesn't like how the banners are hung on stage and doesn't like the lighting or stage size (all this was advanced in email and phone well in advance and the band/crew loaded in mid day and were happy with it and said it would work...stage wasn't small at all). he wouldn't leave his trailer to go look at the stage, though, so the lighting company drew up specs for him to look at of the stage lighting 50 feet from his trailer and brought it to him to look over and prove him wrong.
-in the meantime, glenn's bodyguard gets pushy (literally) with murder city devils manager and tells them they can't have their friends watch MCD from stage and wants them to cut their set. kicks them off stage and gets physical with the band and stafff....oh, also danzig says he's just as big as slayer and slayer is playing a bigger stage on sunday and that's bullshit and wants to play the same stage slayer is playing...or won't play. makes him look bad.
-it's now 8:15 and time for them to go on. the band is ready, corpse make ups done, guitars tunes. glenn says he's not playing and that it's too cold outside. he said big stages should have windscreen so wind can't blow on him from the side. the stage managers then goes and gets tarps and tarp the entire side of the stage so now wind will hit him.
-it's now 8:40. we explain that it's cutting into the set and he's going to have cut the 90 min set if he doesn't play soon, as park curfew is 10. he says he doesn't feel like playing. says "i got a deathbug. if i go on stage and get sick, i'll die. i'm not getting sicker for this show" (NOTE: he totally looks and seems coughing, no paleness, no vomiting, just some balding and a gut, from what i can tell). we get the Dr and he says he can do a b12 shot or anything he needs if he feels bad...danzig says he only treats illnesses naturally, so won't do that. we finally get him to agree to play and have already informed his crew that it's only 60 mins (9pm at this point) and they start cutting some songs from the set list, so they can still do misfits, but obviously didn't cut enough.
-they went on almost and hour late due to the HANDS DOWN biggest rock star moment we've ever dealt with and then he tries to start a riot and blames the fest, the city, the cops and everyone, but himself. goes backstage and tries to fight a few ppl and get in the van and leaves.
the end....
we're bummed to. we wanted to hear Skulls.
me too!

"That's why I'll always be in a small band and play shitty bushwick venues"

And also, your band sucks and nobody likes you.

Danzing is a notorious cunt. No surprise here..

Posted by Anonymous | November 5, 2011 3:01 PM

i was working backstage. this story about danzig is false. the festival promoters continuously put up road blocks. though some of the details are correct about doctors and glenn being sick, the majority of the delay is due to FFF. that rant by the promoter dude is totally twisting the sequence of events.

Posted by Anonymous | November 5, 2011 3:14 PM

@3:14 - Examples?

Sounds like youre just as diluted as Glenn.

@3:14 Thanks for sticking up for me Mother. Now get back in the kitchen and make me some chicken noodle soup. Danzig has sniffles!!!!

Danzig is a twat and always has been. He should crawl back under his rock.

graham + glen... when douchebags clash!

I am acquainted with both of these guys - graham is possibly he worst of the two, but it's a tough call!

Posted by Anonymous | November 5, 2011 4:11 PM

Serves the crowd right, for going to a Danzig show

Posted by Anonymous | November 5, 2011 4:13 PM

3:39. The word is DELUDED.

"Diluted" is what happens to the gene pool when people like you breed.

Posted by Anonymous | November 5, 2011 4:13 PM

why didnt they take the fine for going past curfew? sure it may have been danzig's fault but wouldn't it have been a better outcome?

Posted by Anonymous | November 5, 2011 4:26 PM

Something is really fishy here. If you note, they seemed to time everything to cut the show short RIGHT BEFORE THEY WERE GOING TO PLAY "BULLET". At all other Legacy shows up until this point, Glenn told the audience the story of how the TX governor told him the Misfits would be arrested on sight if they came to Texas and played that song. I'm wondering if some government official told him privately that the threat was still good about playing that song, or the police threatened him before the show not to play that song, hence the bogus stall tactics which resulted in cutting the show short right before Bullet.

Posted by schizo | November 5, 2011 4:40 PM

You guys, this guy sucks.

Posted by Anonymous | November 5, 2011 4:42 PM

That's an interesting conspiracy theory, but they could have just cut Bullet. Since they were cutting songs from the set, anyway.

Posted by Anonymous | November 5, 2011 5:00 PM

Have worked for Graham (I am biased here)... but but I believe any booker over a douche like Glenn. 3:14 is a anon-ass.

Graham has always been as helpful to bands as possible.
I mean look at Danzig's track record.

LULZ, a whole big Giant bag of nothing and does not even matter.
If you still give a fuck about today's traveling joke that is Danzig, Samhain or Misfits then you have even bigger problems then Glen.

I am looking right at you Brooklyn Vegan. Try fawning over something legendary that is actually worth it.

Fuck this stupid bullshit. These kinds of fests are the problem. Who gives a fuck. Wasting my time reading about Graham's story. Should have said that shit on stage but mouth and hands were probably full of veggie flavored dicks.

Too bad. LA show was killer.

Love the publicist showing up here trying to spin this. Just how was this different then he describes? I'm guessing you can't go into details because, if anything, it was worse.

Glen and Graham may both be douchbags, but at least Glen is talented at what he does.

The problem with Glenn Danzig is that he thinks anything less than coming off as a "tough-guy-take-no-shit" who doesn't smile or have a sense of humor, as a weakness.

Posted by Anonymous | November 6, 2011 10:19 AM

First off, Danzig is a cunt. Everyone knows Danzig is a cunt and no one should be surprised by his behavior. The spirit of punk rock was more present at the fucking Public Enemy show 2 minutes up the path going on at the same time than at Danzig. I guess when he came in 2009 things must have gone smoother but he probably acted like a dick back then too. I have no idea why FFF even books Danzig or people are excited about him being there, or why he was booked alongside ACTUAL punk legends like the Zero Boys, the Damned and Negative Approach. But that's not the point. What sadden me is that this disoriented old man was able to rile up the Black Stage audience. We need to do better as an audience and accept our role as attendees in making each experience as a music festival the best it can possibly be.

Posted by nick beam | November 6, 2011 10:35 AM

I have no idea why the majority of people at these shows in Austin act like fucking dicks and are more worried about personal space and their smartphones than what's going on onstage. Props to the chill people at Fun Fun Fun, there are alot, but the majority of y'all are fucking lame.

Posted by Anonymous | November 6, 2011 10:46 AM

danzig fucking rules!

Posted by Anonymous | November 6, 2011 12:44 PM

@3:14. You're a fucking liar. You work for Danzig. I and a dozen others worked back there too and everything the promoter said happened. Every delay before he played were added to the list because he refused to play and ppl were trying to appease him. Then he tried to beat up Timmy Hefner (stage manager of his stage, owner of chaos in tejas) after his set for "cutting his power" which he didn't do. If it was only a ticket the fest would get, I'm sure they'd have taken it. I've been told, and believe it knowing the city sound issues in Austin, that parks dept said they'd pull the whole weekend's sound permits if the fest went past 10. We had him on our schedule to go on just after 8 and he was there, but refused. In addition the entire band was ready at 8:15 w guitars around their neck just waiting to go on but Glenn said no. Oh and we all showed up early and then they called and said they didn't feel like sound checking and would just load in later, which didn't help w sound.

Posted by Anonymous | November 6, 2011 12:44 PM

Yeah I was a stage hand as well and Danzig is a prick mother fucker, true story. I should have told everyone not to even use the heaters and let that mother fucker freeze to death. What kind of pussy asks for heaters at a outdoor festival??? Get over yourself Danzig as you have lost a lot of respect from people who were on stage setting up stuff for you and also for your prima donna act of not going on. I hope everyone knows how much of a douche he is and all the promoters were in the right. Never again will they bring him back this has been. he also asked for Hummus.

Posted by Anonymous | November 6, 2011 1:20 PM

Fun Fun Fun / Graham are among the douchiest promoters in America.

Like much of the Austin music community, the undue respect and attention they get at SxSW has led them to behave like a cartoon caricature of "movers and shakers" all year long. Graham is just another small time Texas wannabe, fueled by coke and pulling drama queen power plays so he can feel like a contender.

Sorry bud, but you live in a minor city, and real players in real markets don't feel the need to pull the "take my toys and go home" bullshit you did with this Danzig situation.

The real entity to blame here is the City of Austin's sound ordinances. We claim "the live music capital of the world" as our city motto and yet we have a mandated 10 pm curfew for outdoor music on a FRIDAY night!? all the people in their high-rise condos across the river and next door to venues:
if its too loud, you're too old and if you don't like music, GET THE FUCK OUT MY CITY!

To those who are bashing Fun Fest:
Fun Fest gave an hour and 45min slot for Danzig, but since Glenn wanted to act like a bitch, the fans get ripped off with only hearing an hour set. And then he tries to threaten with a riot? How classy! Someone should have knocked his 2ft tall ass out again.

Posted by Anonymous | November 7, 2011 1:56 AM

I've known Glenn about as well as anyone possibly could for several years and this seems to be par for the course. As the years go by, his voice deteriorates and his attitude gets worse. It's nothing new. He's always had a hard time treating supporting acts on his tours and accompanying acts at package tours/festivals, as well as promoters. Same goes for his own band members... why do you think he's had so many different lineups over the years or "guest musicians" if you will? What, the Jon Christ/Eerie Von/Chuck B. formula from the first two albums didn't work? Of course they did, and that's why moat fans are moatly familiar with Mother, Twist of Cain and Her Black Wings. Problem was and still is, Glenn hates to share and try as he might to hide it, he's one of the most insecure people you could ever meet. I suppose it doesn't help your ego having a video on the internet showing you getting KTFO by one of the Northside Kings, but again it's a perfect example of how poorly the man treats other musicians and people (including myself on at least a handul of occasions) in general and really, when you're 5'3" and mess with a guy who casts a considerable shadow over you, you usually get what's coming to you. For future reference to bookers, here's some advice: unless you want to give Glenn the Diana Ross Diva treatment and be at his beck and call for every nitpicky thing he wants on a whim, don't book him, because even if he does make his scheduled stage time, he'll find some way to piss on your work and the performances of his supporting acts. He's a man with no friends (not even Rollins can truly be called a friend of Danzig anymore) so how would he know how to treat others?

image and height complex galore, overcompensating for feeling inadequate, etc. still got knocked the fuck out, you betcha. guy's a little bitch ass.

though, i will say, if he ever decided to do a full on misfits-only tour, i'd go.

Anyone dissing Graham/Transmission or trying to put the blame on them is flat out wrong, and one or more of the following:

1. Uninformed
2. Delusional
3. Jealous

Sorry Graham didn't book you or bend over backwards for your no-name ass. A couple of these anonymous posts sounds like they came from the fingertips of some entitled little babies.

Honestly, I'd like to here some detailed stories on what makes Graham such a douche.

He's one of the most approachable promoters i've ever met, and never reaches beyond his means. Graham and Transmission know their place and they know how to do their job well. Why do you think Danzig came back in the first place? Two years ago it worked out great. Bands continue to line up to play Transmission events, old bands ask to come back.

Austin - minor city? You mean the city that's almost unanmimously agreed by just about any publication to be the capitol of live music? Did this knucklehead seriously forget about SXSW?

Notice how shit like CMJ and Fuck Yeah Fast and just about every fest after FFF came around has shamelessly ripped off or taken elements from FFF's it's style.

Long live Graham/FFF

Austin is called the "live music capital of the world" by itself pretty much exclusively.

in NYC you'd find literally dozens of TIMES more live music options than Austin on any given day.

LA has at least twice or three times the daily offerings of concerts.

Also, the majority of the live music options in Austin are unequivocally terrible, a lot of alt country singer songwriter bullshit, rockabilly rehash, and tons of guitar center wannabes doing CREED style shit.

I'm not sure how Danzig's behavior reflects on Austin in any way, or why a bunch of people in NYC are comparing their city with one that is literally 10 times smaller...I honestly don't understand why so many people are living here when their biggest contribution is further congesting our freeways, driving up rent and complaining about the heat.

If you think "Austin is bullshit", then please, tell your friends and everyone you know. By ad space. Throw up some billboards proclaiming this message. We don't need any more snobby self-aggrandizing costal transplants going to war with the agreeably Liberal, but also laid-back, culture of our city. We especially don't need any more people from NYC walking around during SXSW acting as if we should be impressed by the 10 at the front of their Zip Code.

Regardless of people's personal opinions on Graham, a lot of these criticisms of FFF stem from the fact that the festival itself reflects Austin's irreverent casual attitude and sense of humor far more than the jar of mayo that is ACL or the disaster of humanity that occurs during SXSW.

On a final note: The "Live Music Capital of the World" thing has to do with the number of music venues *per capita*...not total. If you're wondering why there are 10X more things to do in NYC, and why it has a lot more going on than Austin, by a fucking road atlas, look at the list of populations of cities, and stop being such a closed minded snob.

For real final note: I recognize not all people in NYC are like this...but this comment section and it's attitude toward my home, doesn't do much to diffuse the stereotype that a lot of people there are complete Danzig-level assholes.

Have a good night.

Posted by Anonymous | November 8, 2011 4:20 AM

I'm from Austin and I'll be blunt:

The days of Slacker are long gone and most of what makes Austin so "special" these days is about the fact that it's in Texas surrounded by far worse places - versus anything very mindblowingly inherently awesome about Austin itself. And Austin has rapidly become a lot like Dallas and Houston. Outside the very small liberal center core, Austin is standard Texas freeways and suburbs and malls.

It is a college town and a capital city. Also, the combo of a modest computer industry (Dell) and the fact that it's the home of a huge annual music industry convention (SxSW) puts it on the map culturally, and fuels some pretention and fancy restaurants... but in the end it ain't all that. The food truck thing is a high water mark, as sad as that is as a claim to fame.

If Graham and FFF and Transmission are such great promoters, then why does Austin's homegrown music scene suck so bad?

The local bands from here aren't exactly taking the world by storm, and you know every band from here has the lucky advantage of being able to get national exposure during SxSW. Graham should be doing a better job of nurturing the scene in Austin.

Posted by Anonymous | November 8, 2011 9:02 AM

Austin has no homegrown scene? The Sword, Black and White Years, Spoon, Bright Light Social Hour, and Okkervill River.

Lots of hate for FFF and Graham, funny stuff.

Haters hate.

Everyone talking shit about Austin: fuck off.

See all of you hypocrites next summer at Chaos In Tejas!

"dont like austin, go back to your trust fund loft and leave us alone then"

This is *Brooklyn* Vegan, queer bait. Why don't you go fuck a steer or something, you anal sore.

11:57... you new around here pardner?

Everyone here is anonymous, including yourself.

Newsflash: typing "trainwreck" into the NAME field doesn't really identify you.

Graham Williams is a sketchy tattoo enthusiast with questionable business practices and juvenile music taste. He's a poster child for the local music industry in Austin.

Posted by Anonymous | November 8, 2011 12:31 PM

motherfucking SPOON is the "best" band Austin has produced.

Posted by Anonymous | November 8, 2011 12:32 PM

@Danzig Comments: People should remember how mind-blowing Slayer, PE, The Damned + many many others were. That's "Rock N Roll." That's how it's done & what we all wanted to see when we paid for the Fest.
@Graham: I've known this guy my entire life & he by far has more integrity, principle, passion for music & heart than anyone I know. He's true blue. Some people don't like their illusions about "celebrities" to be crushed (they can be imbalanced & weird) or dirty laundry aired. Oh well.
@Austin/LA/NY/City Loyalties: Booring.
That being said - come to Austin & hang-out. Make your own mind-up. All Are Welcome.

Danzig was just keeping Austin weird, duh!

Cody gets it. Hi Cody!

Hey all you Zuckerbergs, wanna solve this discussion? There is a sweet new technology called Google that allows you to search commentary and facts on basically any relevant subject in the world. Its cool, you can even be objective by sifting through all sides and coming to your own conclusions - amazing. Pull your head out of this hipster worm hole and see what the rest of the world has to say about this. Facts are facts. Danzigs career is over and this is another in a series of lost battles due to his deep manopausal frustrations. He and only he is accountable for going on late, making fans wait, and barking out orders for cream filled cheetos. GD has been doing this shit for years, but its just getting worse and worse. We are just watching the chubby titanic of doom sink. We all love his music, but his live career is over. One thing is for sure - the dark lord of donuts has deep throated his last fun fun funnel cake in Austin.

I dont know this Graham dude, but he has clearly put the nail on Glenns oversized coffin. Gotta tip my hat on this one. It's just time.

"dont like austin, go back to your trust fund loft and leave us alone then"

So true. Brooklyn has become one of the sillest, unruliest places on the planet to live, yet people defend it like they're wearing one of those bullshit shirts. There should be a machete on there and it should read CLEANSE brooklyn. And yes, I know about the hipster slashings... and I applaud them.

Please stay the fuck out of austin, NY, your rent prices have made you financially weak. Don't hate on happy people.

Posted by lol | November 8, 2011 2:01 PM

everyone I meet in Austin is a cranky cokehead

SxSW has made the music scene batty

Posted by Anonymous | November 8, 2011 2:24 PM

The real important question is, How is the hummus in Austin? Is it runny?

Posted by Anonymous | November 8, 2011 2:52 PM

let's not forget that austin is in texas, and texas fucking sucks

Posted by Anonymous | November 8, 2011 2:56 PM

SxSW gives Austin the illusion that they are important

Keep hating on Austin, hopefully it'll keep the douchebags away.

Posted by Austin Native | November 8, 2011 6:25 PM

Graham is a good guy, not at all a tough guy douche. Dude is smart and humble and has a long-standing reputation for being good at his job.
Danzig was a brilliant artist but has a long-standing record of being a cunt.

Posted by Anonymous | November 8, 2011 11:17 PM

Graham Williams ain't no good guy

Jersey in the HOUSE!

Posted by djfuji | November 9, 2011 7:39 PM

no doubt Glenn Danzig is a old cranky asshole with a primadonna issues...

but make no mistake, Graham Williams and Transmission are exactly the ruthless calculating shifty kind of promoters that fuck over artists and audiences and deflect blame, as evidenced by their transparent preemptive PR strike here.

Posted by Anonymous | November 9, 2011 11:38 PM

Say what you will about anyone..... But only a next level dipshit makes fun of someone's bicycle. Really? " his bike doesn't look cool"??? Hey kids let's face it... If you ride a bicycle in any way shape or form it's time to grow up and get a job. If you are involved in bike culture you are a sad fatherless child who has taken it upon himself to invent possibly the stupidest identity.
Get into falconry or competitive hula least something that doesn't involve you and your cronies constantly running into cars..

Posted by Anonymous | November 10, 2011 1:06 PM

Austin people are surprisingly anxious for living in such an insignifigant backwater

Maybe it's the pressure of all the make believe mover and shaker vibes

Posted by Anonymous | November 10, 2011 5:45 PM

If I wouldve known the FFF was supposed to end at 10pm, I wouldve either stayed at home, or went to NYC or LA for the Danzig Legacy Show. Having already seen a legenday show in Chicago on Oct 7th, I wanted to go see it again. I traveled from MI to see it twice. Well, 1.5 times technically.

Posted by 99percenter | November 11, 2011 3:09 PM

Other than bullshit noise ordinance/show getting the power cut, i had a great time in Austin. Anyone ever heard of a thing called Bonnaroo? Its an outdoor festival too, but it went on all day AND nite for 3 days. Maybe they were allowed to stay up past thier bedtime in Tennessee...
Whoever thought it was a good idea to stage an outdoor fest in the middle of a dust bowl park with a strict noise ordinance in effect at 10pm is a fucking moron. Period.
The Danzig Legacy show in Chicago was epic.
The Austin show was NOT the way this tour shouldve ended.
The whole internet-centered world is full of whiny, self-entitled, bitches who like to think an artist only exists to entertain and amuse them, then piss and moan and complain when things dont go thier way. All the shit-talking and blaming whoever doesnt change anything. Glenn Danzig is a legend, an icon, and an artist. I respect the progression of an artist. A lot of people dont. "People want you to be whatever they want you to be, they can all fuck off, i really dont care." G.D.

Posted by 99percenter | November 11, 2011 3:58 PM

Austin is really convinced that they're a laid back place. I have never found this to be the case. Maybe they're comparing themselves to Dallas and Houston? Austin is uptight compared to many places.

Posted by Anonymous | November 11, 2011 5:04 PM

We can debate all day about who is a douche or what city is better/best. Who cares this is way off topic. The fact of the matter is this, Glenn acted very unprofessional. I don't recall any other acts in the past throwing fits or making disparaging comments about FFF Fest. Even if they were not treated well they were professional about it. If he manned up and just went out there hit and quit it the fans would have been happy. Then he could go home and never come back to play this fest again. It's that simple really. Do you go to your job and tell all the customers how sucky your store is or how crappy your boss is? If it's that bad you go look for a job somewhere else. Being a career musician and having an obligation to your fans isn't to far from that comparison. So keep arguing this if you want and i'm sure you will but I have said my peace.

Posted by J Lee | November 11, 2011 6:25 PM

The only evidence presented here against Danzig is by Graham and Transmission. The other side of the story hasn't even been told.

Why should we trust that account? Everything I have ever heard about that Graham guy is that he is a total dbag. The way that Transmission operates in Austin sure doesn't make me trust him/them.

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2011 1:15 PM

Everyone is talking shit about Glenn. Well Glenn didn't run home to facebook to save face and start bashing fffuck fest. Think about this, Jerry Only is putting the Misfits/Crimson Ghost on everything under the fuckin sun tryin to make a buck. While going around with his "over the hill punk icon crew" doing Misfits karoke. Why isn't anyone bashing him? Glenn did 4 shows for the fans. If Glenn didn't give a shit about the fans he would have never did the legacy tour. Promoters are worse than the lowest ambulance chasing lawyer. They will say/do anything to sell tickets, save face, and make money. This assholeface is getting tons of free press over this Danzig thing. Granted Slayer played sunday, but guess what? Slayer player over 100 dates a year. I'm a Slayer fan-I've got the cover of rein in blood tattooed on my calf. But seeing Danzig due all the best songs from all his projects-4 dates. Just because some asshole puts something on their facebook don't make it true. If this loser puts up that the tooth fairy is real, are you people gonna go smash out the few teeth in your texas mouths? If Austin hates Glenn so much how come EVERY record store/ t-shirt shop had more Misfits stuff than Jerry Only's store?

Posted by MxG | November 12, 2011 10:08 PM

Don't forget Danzig was sick. When I am sick, I don't act my usual way. I turn into a crybaby jerk......Too bad a well Danzig was not in Austin. Austin got the sick Danzig that night.

Posted by Ross | November 14, 2011 5:47 PM

Listening to FFF fest promoters tell you how things happened at the danzig show backstage is like watching FOX news and then thinking youre well informed.

Posted by 99percenter | November 16, 2011 10:10 AM

voyeuristic joy from watching Austin people fall flat on their asses trying to "play" the Brooklyn Vegan comment section

Posted by Anonymous | November 21, 2011 3:35 PM

Well, interesting to see that it's not just Danzig, but his fans too that are douchebags. Good to know.

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2012 4:41 AM

hey how about some professionalism here?

If an act doesn't work, its ON THE PROMOTER, period.

Nobody give a crap because you can't keep the show going.

Shit, I would have paid the fines and let Danzig run and wrote that shit off on taxes..

Even if Danzig is a dick, doesn't matter, its on the promoter. Step the fuck up and just acknowledge the fact that it was unfortunate and MOVE ON to the next promotion rather than telling all these sordid details about how it wasn't your fault. Bullshit, it was your fault.

Next time, pay a bunch of off duty cops to hold their asses hostage till he finishes the set. Sounds mafia but you got a show to run. And if you are smart, you use off-duty cops to run the regulating and witness any "assaults" gone wrong by the artists bodyguards. You help the cops and they can help you, bottom line.

Sometimes its gotta go like that, wake up.

In the Rave community there were instances where one had to hire fixers to keep the artists from trying to walk before their set which was a real problem since you had to pay up front.

U gotta protect your interests..

Posted by robssm | May 13, 2012 2:59 AM

Ok, time for me to chime in on this sordid affair.

Bottom line is Fun Fun Fun Fest were wrong and cowardly in their dealings with Danzig.

They agreed to provide French onion soup in Danzig's rider, they didn't provide it and that is inexcusable as you can get that soup in any chain supermarket in Austin. I think it was more the principle more than the item with Danzig.

He wanted something to protect him from the wind and cold, they provided it then groused behind his back on the internet after the fest. The man has played arenas and outdoor concerts in general and has always been provided these things without public complaint, why couldn't FFFF be among these fests? FFFF should take a cue from Dynamo Open Air Festival Oh yeah, FFFF couldn't buy stage heaters and claim them on their taxes as a business expense? C'mon. WAAAAAH we have rent what we could easily buy.

Danzig is a meticulous, fastidious artist and has been that way for decades (which is bad or good depending on how you look at it) and if you don't know that going into booking him, you have absolutely no right to complain publicly or privately about him when you don't give him what he wants.

The only thing Danzig crossed the line with was demanding to play the Slayer stage as he agreed to play the smaller stage and that's it. That is if he complained. Did he?

This is a whole lotta possible if not probable hearsay on FFFF's part.

In short, Danzig was not provided what he needed and FFFF publicly groused about what they did provide him after the fest and that was a bitchmove on FFFF's part.
