Well, someone didn't like Wolves In the Throne Room.

Posted by Anonymous | November 27, 2011 7:43 PM

fucked up is on the list?!

fail.

Posted by Anonymous | November 27, 2011 7:53 PM

No Ash Borer = FAIL

Posted by Kyle | November 27, 2011 8:05 PM

ugh Heritage was terrible

Posted by Anonymous | November 27, 2011 8:13 PM

Some good records there and Tombs ruled, but this list is proof positive that the Megadeth and Gwar covers are getting to Decibel. Worst list yet.

Posted by Anonymous | November 27, 2011 8:16 PM

the year in sausage

Posted by Anonymous | November 27, 2011 8:23 PM

Yeah there's no way the new Machine Head record should be on this, despite the fact that their last album was good.

The Atlas Moth and Black Brobra clearly deserve inclusion though I am happy to see Deafheaven, YOB, Obscura, Disma, Krallice and Rwake.

The new Wolves record has two standout tracks but is mostly filler so I am not surprised to not see it here.

Mastodon's new record is abysmally bad. Like, unlistenable.

Am currently inebriated and can't think of anything else that came out this year. Did Come My Fanatics come out this year? Just joking.

Posted by Anonymous | November 27, 2011 8:30 PM

Yeah, weird not seeing Wolves in the Throne Room

Posted by Anonymous | November 27, 2011 8:37 PM

Woods Of Desolation- Torn Beyond Reason

Posted by Anonymous | November 27, 2011 8:52 PM

Well if we're counting all the "2011" releases like Inquisition, then Electric Wizard should be here too. But overall it is a pretty good list. Ulcerate ranks much higher for me, and I would also suggest Oranssi Pazuzu.

Posted by mush | November 27, 2011 9:05 PM

Wow this really underscores how shitty this year in metal was.

I sure hope mastodon is on there due to publicist pressure.

Tombs are great but #1?????

Electric wizard and Anthrax should be on the list.

Posted by Anonymous | November 27, 2011 9:16 PM

FALSE and atriarch are most surprising. Tombs earned it for sure.

Posted by Anonymous | November 27, 2011 9:21 PM

Death to false sausage metal.

Posted by blag | November 27, 2011 9:30 PM

Hit: Moab, 40 Watt Sun and Tombs.

Miss: Machine Head and Exhumed? Good, but maybe 41 & 42 respectively.

Missing: Indian - The Guiltless; Illogicist - Perceptions From The Deceiving Memory; Evil Bebos - The Stranger

Unsigned: Scourge Schematic

Posted by Jason | November 27, 2011 9:38 PM

No Batillus? Furnace is a great record.

Posted by Anonymous | November 27, 2011 9:38 PM

Engineer, "Crooked Voices" is definitely up there, as far as one of the best of the year, and also probably the most developed record of the band's history.

Posted by Hex | November 27, 2011 9:43 PM

I'm really glad that Junius is rated so high on there. That's such a fantastic album, easily one of my favorites this year.

Posted by Anonymous | November 27, 2011 10:11 PM

Flourishing - "The Sum of All Fossils"

Posted by Anonymous | November 27, 2011 10:30 PM

I thought Pains of Being Pure at Heart would make the list.

Posted by Anonymous | November 27, 2011 10:36 PM

second vote for indian. top 10 for me.

Posted by Anonymous | November 27, 2011 11:56 PM

Metal sucks

Posted by Anonymous | November 28, 2011 12:13 AM

Some good stuff among a lot of bad stuff, missing a lot of the best stuff, and ordered all wrong.

-1

Posted by Anonymous | November 28, 2011 12:24 AM

Midnight, Ghoul, Cannabis Corpse, Batillus, Witch Mountain, Harassor, . Not sure what the shit Mastodong and Fucked Up are doing on there. #LAME
Good to see Moab tho!

Posted by Adam | November 28, 2011 12:38 AM

Where is MIDNIGHT and LEVIATHAN?????

MASTODON are gayer than gay.

Posted by Anonymous | November 28, 2011 12:53 AM

KEN Mode is perhaps the most surprising omission. Corrupted's latest is my number one of the year but I don't expect to see that on a list with Machine Head.

Posted by Stephen | November 28, 2011 1:03 AM

1. Kielbasa
2. Bratwurst
3. Salami
4. Cervelat
5. Andouille
6. Knackwurst
7. Mortadella
8. Chorizo
9. Linguica
10. Boudin Noir

Posted by Anonymous | November 28, 2011 1:23 AM

Yeah not having Corrupted's "Garten Der Unbewusstheit" on here is bogus, that is a great record. Also "The Book of Kings" should be up a lot higher on the list, so fucking heavy and gorgeous guitar work on that.

Posted by Eric | November 28, 2011 2:57 AM

The Atlas Moth was the biggest snub.

Posted by Tanner | November 28, 2011 3:12 AM

Yeah not having Corrupted's "Garten Der Unbersausagewusstheit" on here is bogus dude, that is a great record. Also "The Book of Kings, verse 6 ch.2" should be up a lot higher on the list, so fucking heavy and gorgeous guitar work on that.

Posted by Anonymous | November 28, 2011 6:07 AM

Where is Toxic Holocaust? 'Conjure and Command' is WAY better than their 2009 release, which made that year's Decibel list.

Posted by alex! | November 28, 2011 7:52 AM

Heritage was awful (not because it was proggy, because it was awful) and Mastodon's new release was just a snooze through more of the same. Junius and Primordial's releases were disappointing as well.

Good calls: Hammers of Misfortune, Absu, Subrosa, Origin, and Obscura. I'd place all of these higher.

And where the hell is Deconstruction?!

Posted by Cameron | November 28, 2011 7:58 AM

The Atlas Moth, Indian, Ash Borer and Flourishing.

Posted by Steve | November 28, 2011 7:58 AM

Tombs is ridiculously overrated. Trap Them deserves to be much higher.

Posted by Anonymous | November 28, 2011 9:43 AM

This list is missing Today is the Day, Wolves in the Throne Room, The Atlas Moth, and Altar of Plagues.

And what's up with Decibel giving " The Hunter" a 9 and giving "Crack the Skye" a 7? Are they trolling or do they have that bad a taste in music?

Posted by Anonymous | November 28, 2011 9:52 AM

@ 9:16: dude electric wizard's last album came out in 2010.

also: decibel fucking sucks.

Posted by Anonymous | November 28, 2011 10:01 AM

Dude who made the joke about Come My Fanatics back again... did Black Masses come out in 2011? I thought it came out in 2010, but if it was this year it definitely deserves inclusion. What a great record.

Also, Fucked Up need to be taken off. I guess I just don't even know what came out this year.

Posted by Anonymous | November 28, 2011 10:09 AM

@ 10:09 black masses came out in 2010.

Posted by Anonymous | November 28, 2011 10:43 AM

"Black Masses" came out in 2010, but the US version wasn't released until January of this year.

Posted by Anonymous | November 28, 2011 10:59 AM

all sausage sounds the same

Posted by Anonymous | November 28, 2011 11:24 AM

Mastodon! ha. Aren't there labor laws to prevent pre-teens from working at magazines?

Posted by Anonymous | November 28, 2011 12:00 PM

The Atlas Moth deserved to be much higher. Also missing are Dark Castle, Ken Mode, Wormrot and Weekend Nachos. Also, did anyone hear the new Goes Cube record? Sorely underrated. Good to see Brutal Truth, Junius and Tombs getting props they deserve.

Posted by Mr Brownstone | November 28, 2011 12:11 PM

The year in Metal:

no chix

Posted by Anonymous | November 28, 2011 12:23 PM

All Pigs Must Die, Balaclava, Fuck The Facts, Goes Cube, KEN Mode, Today Is The Day, and RED FUCKIN' FANG

Posted by JT | November 28, 2011 12:47 PM

Oh, and I really dug PULLING TEETH's "Funerary". It's better than Trap Them, but I liked that album too.

Posted by JT | November 28, 2011 12:50 PM

The fact that sopressata was once again overlooked is borderline criminal, although I am happy that chorizo and kielbasa both got a nod this year.

Posted by Anonymous | November 28, 2011 2:21 PM

Balaclava.

Posted by Dogcatcher | November 28, 2011 2:27 PM

Ulcerate on 21???
and no Blut Aus Nord??

suck it Decibel!!

Posted by Anonymous | November 28, 2011 3:51 PM

No Wolves In The Throne Room cause decibel refuses to cover Southern Lord releases for PERSONAL reasons. This list is based upon advertising dollars, obviously. Bring on the TRUE year end lists that don't exclude record labels because of personal beefs. It automatically negates the legitimacy of it.

Posted by Anonymous | November 28, 2011 4:03 PM

tombs suck. wolves in throne room are fucking great!

Posted by Anonymous | November 28, 2011 4:05 PM

like i said before, mastodon died in 2008.

Posted by Anonymous | November 28, 2011 4:07 PM

suprised that i dont see liturgy. thought it was a good album

Posted by anonymous | November 28, 2011 4:34 PM

false made it and they're on a diy record label, what are you guys gonna say to that? maybe they just didn't like wolves' new record. remember how music tastes are subjective and stuff?

Posted by anon | November 28, 2011 4:35 PM

The Atlas Moth are awful. Their musical tastes they reference is an indication of that.

Yes the list is missing Today is The Day.

Posted by Anonymous | November 28, 2011 4:36 PM

well no list in the world won't be argued about, but disappointing that Indian, Atlas Moth, KEN Mode, and Leviathan were overlooked.

Posted by Anonymous | November 28, 2011 4:51 PM

this list is laughable. from the exclusion of Blut aus nord (with TWO albums deserving), WITTR, Liturgy, etc to the INclusion of Fucked Up (NOT even a metal band). I can only suspect that DsO's Paracletus is being considered a 2010 release (despite a US street date of Jan 2011). ulcerate should be a top 10, if not top 5. sure, tastes are subjective, but only to a point (like other forms of art). this list screams of a magazine out of touch with what's going on in metal. i really hate to say it (and the haters will hate), but pitchfork killed you on the year end list.

Posted by eatit | November 28, 2011 4:52 PM

Isn't this suppose to be an underground metal mag? opeth, mastodon, machine head? give me a fuckin break...

Posted by Anonymous | November 28, 2011 4:53 PM

Any of you assholes who truly think that Decibel is an underground magazine, wake up and smell the bullshit. Here is a list of the magazine covers for the past year:

Lamb of God, Megadeth, Anthrax, Gwar, Skeletonwitch, Mastodon, Morbid Angel, Death, Pentagram, Amon Amarth, Electric Wizard, Ghost

Seriously?

Posted by Anonymous | November 28, 2011 5:22 PM

Inquisition is a 2010 record, and even if you want to count it in 2011, how the hell do you put it so low? It is the best record of either/both years. Decibel is getting worse by the minute. I used to get excited about finding it in my mailbox. Now it's like a junk mail catalog.

Posted by loutibbs | November 28, 2011 5:40 PM

No Vektor... FOR FUCKING SHAME!

Posted by jabblez | November 28, 2011 5:48 PM

Any of you assholes who truly think that bratwurst is an underground sausage, wake up and smell the paprika.

Cotto Salami, Cervelat, Gelbwurst, Medvurst, Summer-venison, Polish-dried

Seriously?

Posted by Anonymous | November 28, 2011 5:58 PM

These sausage dudes need to learn to talk to girls so they wont't be depressed and will stop making and listening to this horrible music.

Posted by Anonymous | November 28, 2011 6:07 PM

What the fuck is up with sausage album titles?

Ominous Doctrines of the Perpetual, The Last Caress of Light ,Redemption at the Puritan's Hand etc.

lulz, da fuck? you sausage bros need to go take a walk or something, get some air.

Posted by Anonymous | November 28, 2011 6:16 PM

WHERE IN THE SWEET FUCK IS CAVE IN "WHITE SILENCE?"

did decibel not rank Jupiter number #2 in their best of the decade list? who dropped the fucking ball on this one? Numbnuts

Posted by dave | November 28, 2011 7:32 PM

Where the hell is In the Flesh (Nader Sadek) and Welcome to the Morbid Reich? Plus Heritage got overrated.

Posted by Anonymous | November 28, 2011 7:52 PM

Right on Dave, Cave In "White Silence" is an excellent album.

Posted by JT | November 28, 2011 7:53 PM

I thought the album was good

Posted by Rede de proteção | November 28, 2011 8:28 PM

what a zinger, no Black Cobra? (cringes)

Posted by chad | November 28, 2011 8:41 PM

Andouille only at #5? WTF! Andouille melts face!

Posted by Anonymous | November 28, 2011 8:42 PM

Missing Olde Growth and Hull, right off the bat.

Posted by Benjamin | November 28, 2011 9:19 PM

KEN MODE - sounds like a gay porno movie...and I bet THAT is what they sound like.

PULLING TEETH - INTEGRITY called and said you suck and stop sweating our ideas, logo, etc.

Posted by Anonymous | November 28, 2011 9:29 PM

how can this list even begin to be taken seriously without including the seminal album "No Chix" by All Pigs Must Die?

Posted by Anonymous | November 28, 2011 10:10 PM

@9:29, Step off. I was the only one who mentioned Pulling Teeth. Everything is a rip-off of something else, anyway.

And speaking of unoriginal music, I'm surprised nobody has called Decibel out for GRAVEYARD?

Posted by JT | November 28, 2011 11:49 PM

^ "step off"....lulz

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2011 12:25 AM

This list = FAIL

No Craft..
No Leviathan...
No Ritual Necromancy...

Posted by El Gato | November 29, 2011 5:19 AM

THE DRUMMER OF TOMBS IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BAD. It's a shame, everything else is good.

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2011 11:29 AM

craft? wolvhammer? bestial raids?

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2011 1:17 PM

Thuringer? Zampone? Mortadella?

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2011 1:55 PM

Electric Wizard's album was on their Top 40 from last year

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2011 5:47 PM

I did not like the album

Posted by Redes de proteção | November 29, 2011 6:12 PM

Decibel needs to stop eating Opeths pussy.

Posted by Anonymous | November 30, 2011 7:10 AM

Tsjuder, Gentlemans Pistols, Blasphemophager...

Posted by Anonymous | November 30, 2011 5:03 PM

Rosetta 'Wake/Lift'
TITD 'Pain is a Warning'
Morne
Deafheaven is top 10

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2011 10:03 AM

rise of the sausage sun

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2011 4:21 PM

where the fuck is Bastard Priest?

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2011 3:48 PM

I think Shane Mehling, who does Decibel's Needle Exchange section, should've done the Top 40. Every time I get my issue, I immediately flip to that section, skipping over whatever flavor-of-the-month is on the cover. Although, he'd probably only come up with 15 good albums this year.

Posted by John | December 3, 2011 1:18 PM

Holy shit , either Devin Townsend is too much of a fucking genious to commercial eyes or maybe the album is just so fucked up complicated and fucking bad ass, but hands down Devin Townsend´s Deconstruction blows fishes out of the water on the list. Obscuras Omnivium owns as well.

Posted by DemonOfTheFall | December 5, 2011 2:42 PM

"And speaking of unoriginal music, I'm surprised nobody has called Decibel out for GRAVEYARD?"

Clutch wannabes. There I got ya covered. (:

Posted by Anonymous | December 5, 2011 3:02 PM

Fucked Up make Decibel and Pitchfork. They are the new Nirvana.

Posted by Anonymous | December 5, 2011 3:34 PM

this is the top 40 of DECIBEL! Not yours! i hate how other people complain about these lists! thats what they liked! i supposed you have a different one because you liked other stuff! im amazed at people sometimes.

Posted by greg | February 17, 2012 8:21 AM
