Sharon at LPR in October (more by Toby Tenenbaum)
Sharon Van Etten

As mentioned, Sharon Van Etten signed to Jagaguwar and will release her next album with them in early 2012, which Aaron Dessner (of The National) is producing. A release date still hasn't been set for the album, but we now know that it's called Tramp and will feature contributions from Matt Barrick (of The Walkmen), Doveman, Zach Condon, Jenn Wasner (of Wye Oak), and Julianna Barwick.

After Sharon opens for The National at Beacon Theatre (12/13) (tickets), she'll go on a tour in support of her new album with one of her favorite bands Shearwater. That tour hasn't been announced in full yet (update: now it has), but it hits NYC on February 24 at Music Hall of Williamsburg and February 25 at Bowery Ballroom, and also includes two Chicago shows. Tickets for the MHOW show, and the Bowery Show, go on sale Friday (11/11) at noon with an AmEx presale starting Wednesday (11/9) at noon.

Shearwater also have a new home (Sub Pop), and they'll be releasing their next album on the label in early 2012. They released some live recordings and experimental pieces on their bandcamp back in April in honor of the signing.

Sharon's a sweetheart. She deserved a better first comment than that.

Posted by Anonymous | November 8, 2011 2:31 PM

Well, the second comment is lame as well.

Yeah yeah, this one is too, but I have the benefit of neither giving a fuck nor finding the chick particularly attractive.

Posted by Anonymous | November 8, 2011 2:35 PM

a SVE/St Vincent double bill would be fun

Posted by Anonymous | November 8, 2011 2:38 PM

you really expect intelligence and respect in the brooklynvegan comments?

Posted by Anonymous | November 8, 2011 2:42 PM

x-ray please

SVE is great. + she nabbed a walkmen, the best drummer alive no less

I am bored to DEATH with "nice people in music." Most of the time, they're not actually nice or self-less or "sweet" but just working artists or creative people (sensitive, moody, difficult at times.) Who could be genuinely "nice" or a "sweetheart" and be ambitious/driven to succeed? Has this woman been NICE to everyone she's come into contact with? Is there someone who does not think she's a sweetheart? I don't know this singer personally, btw. I just know that getting a reputation as a nice person, easy to work with, Christian are all shibboleths for production/media/booking/record label organizations that this person is professional and is willing to "play ball."

242pm Nah when hipsters started reading this site, the comment section got too much.

Loved this site couple years ago.....

God forbid someone say that someone else looks good. You people have to be miserable.

makes me envy deaf people

Toronto @ Lee's Palace on February 21

Shearwater is fantastic and they are an awesome, tight live band. It's pretty sad that nobody has mentioned them yet...just dumb comments as is the norm around here. smh

Posted by Anonymous | November 8, 2011 2:55 PM

BV needs to get over his crush on SVE. She's really just so mediocre, album is a snoozefest.

so rude

Posted by Anonymous | November 8, 2011 5:53 PM

Sharon is headlining? Good for her.

Posted by Anonymous | November 8, 2011 6:23 PM

youre 'bored to death with nice people?' man, what happened to you as a child? you want everyone in music to be like ryan adams or tyler the creator?

Posted by Anonymous | November 8, 2011 6:44 PM

6:44, it's "bored" guy. Had a pretty great childhood, actually. But I agree with Television: Gimme Friction. Tension, intensity, unpredictability...sorta what a lot of music (pro-tools, autotune, overdubs) these days lacks.

NO...I don't want ANYONE to be like Tyler the Creator or Cryin' Adams.

But I would LOVE to see SVE as a diva in the coming days.

Is that rad enough for you, 6:44?

Posted by Anonymous | November 8, 2011 8:19 PM

Nope, I find integrity and basic decency pretty rad, actually. The indie hemisphere is inundated with maladjusted, narcassistic fuck-ups and its actually refreshing to read about someone relatively sweet and normal. Plus, those sorts of people rarely put out anything worth listening to; Difficult personalities dont necccessarily equate to creative music.

e.g. - Jeff Mangum is probably one of the most affable, shy guys you'd ever meet and I just listened to him sing about a child having his brains bashed in with a hammer by a priest (sic) two nights ago. Intense enough for you?

Never cared for Television. Sort of the less imaginative US equivalent of Gang of Four. (who only had about two good ablums, but still.)

@8:19 You're stupid. OK? OK.

Posted by Anonymous | November 9, 2011 10:02 AM

BV should require all commenters to create an account and sign in. I doubt there would be near as much vile bullshit being spewed if there was an email account attached to the comments. Let's be honest, bitter hipsters are a bunch of spineless pussies.

It doesn't matter. Sharon still wouldn't give you trendies the time of day anyway.

Posted by Anonymous | November 9, 2011 11:51 AM

Good idea, 11:21. You really seem to understand the internet well.

Posted by Anonymous | November 9, 2011 11:58 AM

Or, if BV doesnt require registration of commenters, how about zapping some of the more offensive ones like 3:16's?

I'm stating the obvious, but SVE is a real person who probably reads this blog, and sees these incredibly rude comments.

Whaddya say? BV, you are are a fan of Sharon, right?
