As discussed in our recent interview/MP3 debut with the band, Battlefields have gone in new and impressive directions with Agassiz. The new EP (out now on INIT Records) finds the band scaling down their sludge-epics into more bite-size chunks, and the results are rewarding.

Stream all of Agassiz below for the first time, and look for them on the road.

Cookie cutter hipster metal: Beards, pen plug idiot earings, mandatory tats, yearning to pose for camera looking serious as though you have been a band for 20 years, black, and a completely typical boring predictable derivative sound.

Do any of these identical looking and sounding hipster metal bands realize how many thousands are doing the same exact thing?

Its truly funny now thinking post rock or whatever you want to refer to it as like 18th dye or Turing Machine didnt receive more attention for example because they were non metal bands who could actually play and not real interested in ego image.

Usually I read BV comments and get annoyed..however I couldn't agree more with the above comments..The scene in the late 90s was bad.. now the scene is really getting sad

Go listen to your Disturbed album...

If you don't like it, don't eat it.

well, at least the ginger is Livin' Strong, and why would you ever scale back your "sludge epics"? i don't feel rewarded after listening to this, i feel like i paid a price.

I hope that dude's choker necklace was photoshopped in. But, I guess it's bad either way.

"I'M ANONYMOUS! I'M GOING TO LET EVERYONE KNOW WHAT BANDS I DON'T LIKE AND WHY... AND BE ANONYMOUS!" fucking learn how to play some instruments and start a band you trolls. Cookie cutter comments...

Thanks Tom for your little fit. Still doesn't address the fact that there are incestuous copy cat unoriginal hipster metal bands galore these days who are boring. The posing nu metal esque hipster silly photos does not redeem the music either. Oh my those song titles are cute.

So every other band member is a tattoo artist or works at hot topic?

Is the guy in the back row, center, a Pollock? Judging by his cranial structure I bet he is.

Anyone complaining about hipsters on a Brooklyn Vegan website should really go review the definition of the word irony.

I like all of the comments intimating that this is a new band jumping on the "hipster metal" band wagon. they have a slew of records out and have been touring nationally with established bands for about 6-7 years. Ripping their sound is one thing and thats fine. but beyond that, you dumb dogg

Posted by Richie Rodney | November 7, 2011 12:33 AM

loved it. dont care what anyone says. definitely appreciate the sound change. people have to find a term to pigeon hole things they don't like, "hipster-metal" is the new one. oh, well...

Posted by anonymous | November 9, 2011 1:00 AM

I definitely think the first track is something fresh. When was the last time you heard black metal with a pop hook? Let the hate roll in...

Posted by Ding Chavez | November 10, 2011 11:38 AM

12:07 is spot on with pointing out that anyone taking the time to post comments on brooklynvegan making fun of hipsters should really take a good look in the mirror.

alos, @2:13...not really sure how turing machine or 18th dye have any relevance to battlefields. i'm a metalhead, but also am old enough to have seen turing machine play in the late 90''s really two different genres of music....i do not understand your point here.

Posted by ahnaanusmoose | November 13, 2011 12:31 AM

i really cant believe that these fuckin queers are still "trying to make it"

Have any of you meet rusty steele?

he is a fucking little troll from middle earth, that has somehow managed to make the people around him think hes cool, when he is really a hobbit that has no real musical talent and grasps on to people who do, so he can fit into the scene.

he is pathetic and so is their "music"

fucking garbage!
