Big Freedia at Brooklyn Bowl (more by Eric M. Townsend)
Big Freedia

Big Freedia was one of the many special guests at The Roots' Okayplayer Holiday Jam at Brooklyn Bowl on 12/15. More pictures from that show are HERE.

She has a few upcoming shows planned for the next few months, including New Year's Eve in Austin and a NYC show back at Brooklyn Bowl on January 21. Tickets for the Brooklyn show are not on sale yet but check ticketfly for updates.

Earlier this year, she toured with Spank Rock (who just announced a show with Skrillex, which is happening on February 3 at Roseland). That tour also brought Big Freedia to Brooklyn Bowl, and to Fun Fun Fun Fest.

All Freedia dates (including Noisepop in San Francisco) and a video for "Na Who Mad" below...

can't believe BV got the gender wrong of Big Freedia, journalism at its finest!

Posted by Anonymous | December 22, 2011 1:43 PM

I'm so confused...is he a guy or a girl?

Posted by Anonymous | December 22, 2011 1:50 PM

i'd still hit it!

Posted by Anonymous | December 22, 2011 1:56 PM

im turned on by that boooooooty

Posted by Anonymous | December 22, 2011 2:08 PM

Really been slipping with the details lately. Gotta get that shit together, BV.

Posted by Anonymous | December 22, 2011 2:09 PM

I bet BV doesn't get confused any Lana Del Rey deets, cuz that interscope $ is rolling right in

Posted by Anonymous | December 22, 2011 2:16 PM

And BV always gets the Sharon Van Etten posts correct since he has a major crush on her.

Frohawk + Big Freedia is a killer combination, but not as good as Frohawk + Big Freedia + James Murphy.

Posted by Anonymous | December 22, 2011 3:31 PM

Freedia refers to herself as a she, so therefore BV isn't wrong...

Shemale. Ladyboy. Jiggler of azz. Smuggler of bones. Pre-op Frohawk. Freakazoid.

Why confine yourselves to he or she?

What's the big deal about Big Freedia (i.e. why is he/she a hipster favorite)? This music sounds no different than the bass music coming from the South in the '90's. Nothing unique about it, except that it's being performed by a TG. If I were to play a track for someone who wasn't familiar with Freedia, they probably would assume it's some interchangable mid-90's dirty South crap.

you think freedia and frohawk got it on?

Posted by Anonymous | December 22, 2011 4:30 PM

big fat funky booty...

Posted by Anonymous | December 22, 2011 4:44 PM

4:20, I have no clue. I only like her cause I like the concept of bounce music.

Posted by Anonymous | December 22, 2011 4:50 PM

I think Frohawk asks Freedia to shake up his hummus for him so he can mix the chickpea and the peppers.

I could play you at least 10 different tracks from 10 different artists from the mid-90's, who sound exactly like this. No different.
