The Black Keys @ Summerstage 2010 (more by Jessica Amaya)
Black Keys
Black Keys

"They made every right step, and they never rushed it," said John Moore, the founder of Bowery Presents, in a telephone interview. "It seems like the perfect rise."

Mr. Moore, whose company is promoting the Madison Square Garden show and first presented the Black Keys at the Mercury Lounge in 2002, mentioned Arcade Fire as the only other rock band of their generation with comparable arena status. [NY Times]

The March 12th Black Keys/Arctic Monkeys show at Madison Square Garden sold out today (12/9), the same day the tickets went on sale to the general public, and so... they've added another one! Both bands will play MSG again on March 22. Tickets for the new date go on general sale Friday, Dec 16 at 9am.

Phony show 1 sell-out. Typical Bowery BS. More money to the brokers!

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 5:07 PM

will there be presales? or just GP?

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 5:07 PM

5:07 must work for Live Nation.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 5:09 PM

Actually you idiots should be glad. You should be able to grab a ticket for either of these shows for basement prices come the week of. So happy I recently saw Arctic Monkeys at Music Hall and The BK Wester show this week
Now i can skip this and laugh at the morons running to the horrible Garden to catch either of these bands.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 5:16 PM

no, i don't work for live nation- i'm honestly asking... i spaced on the original date and really want GA for this 2nd date

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 5:16 PM

@ 5:16- agree with you... but the garden isn't horrible. it's a cool place to see a show, it's historic

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 5:19 PM

I know everyone's upset Amon Tobin got hit by a car today but there's no need to post all these Phish photos.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 5:19 PM

what why?

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 5:23 PM

I'm patiently waiting for Radiohead @ MSG two night stand.....

that will be a fun show.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 5:25 PM

i think i know that girl

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 5:26 PM

@5:19- agree with you-the garden is a great place to see a show if you don't care about having great sound or sight or intimacy and connection with the band. Yeah then it is a positively awesome place to see a show.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 5:27 PM

Can dan tour his solo album again? I'd pay up to hear those songs.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 5:30 PM

Called it.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 5:34 PM

they will headline yankee stadium in the summer

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 5:36 PM

Since I only buy good seats, most shows I see at MSG feel much more intimate than the ones I see at Roseland, Hammerstein, Terminal 5, etc. If you think the short Webster Hall show was better than what these shows are going to be, you're only fooling yourself.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 5:49 PM

Hey idiot: the Webster Hall show was a full 18 songs, which is the same amount that they played on their Canadian arena tour this past summer and will probably be close to what they play on this arena tour.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 5:53 PM

i'm so pumped to see some authentic, dirty, down in the delta blues!

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 5:54 PM

Yeah. Fucking. Right.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 5:59 PM

Yankee stadium is next

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 6:00 PM

i miss wavves

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 6:01 PM

Great! Now I can walk out of two shows instead of just one!

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 6:12 PM

Great, another show I've gotta shell my hard earned cash out for just to have the dignity to walk out of 15 mins in.

Posted by Gerhart | December 9, 2011 6:13 PM

this band exists solely to soundtrack annoying advertisements and bad movies

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 6:18 PM

ok, paid placement. we get it

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 6:19 PM

Let's have the same retarded arguments this board had about the LCD Soundsystem and Arcade Fire MSG shows. awesome.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 6:30 PM

how long until chairlift headline msg?

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 6:36 PM

I like to wait for them to play 10am Automatic, then quickly walk out before I hear anything off "Attack and Release." I'm a pro

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 6:42 PM

^ wow. That is pro. Thanks for the tip!

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 6:44 PM

JUST ANNOUNCED: Black Keys to play 4 nights at Terminal 5.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 6:45 PM

I bet ur glad you didn't pull those 100 levels for 250 on stub hub..i am.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 6:46 PM

Oh. If you like authentic blues... you really gotta check out Blues Hammer.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 7:30 PM

Question: for the added show, will anyone but a scalper, uh, I mean 'reseller', be able to get floor or 100 level tickets that are not at the other end of the garden?
Answer: No.

Posted by Pissed concert-goer | December 9, 2011 7:50 PM

Right down front, stare 'em down walk the fuck out.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 7:51 PM

Everyone knows you have your own scalpers Bowery Presents! You fucking bought out the show yourselves.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 8:24 PM

yo pissed concert-goer, you and i have to have lunch sometime and discuss the bowery presents (and reason about how much they are full of shit), and how ticketmaster repeatedly enjoys fucking concert goers in the ass. thinking about the whole system lately just turns me off from wanting to attend any live show. you used to be able to see a shitty band at a pretentious ass place and have a decent chance at getting a ticket. now you can't see any shitty band at any pretentious place because all the tickets are sold out.

Posted by frustrated with haters | December 9, 2011 8:26 PM

"Mr. Moore...mentioned Arcade Fire as the only other rock band of their generation with comparable arena status."

Anyone else care to eviscerate this statement? Pretty sure there are 2000s bands bigger than BK besides AF.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 10:57 PM

hey i just heard this band Black Keys. I think they are playing the Garden. My dad will buy us tix and let us use his car to get to the show. Reggie will even wait the whole time and drive us home after. Foursquare - i just checked in as the Mayor of Awesome!

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 11:21 PM

why?

#staredownwalkout

Posted by Anonymous | December 10, 2011 3:32 AM

5:07, 7:50, 8:26 - I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed and is annoyed by how blatant Bowery Presents is about burying seats from general public ticket sales. I would say that someone should audit their ticket sales, but um.. scalping is legal in New York now. Unfortunately, what they're doing is legal... maybe not ethical, but legal. Thanks Elliot Spitzer!

Posted by Anonymous | December 10, 2011 4:35 AM

When you go to that Black Keys show at MSG in March, take a look around at the arena during the show... Even though it's a "sold out show", notice that there are empty seats sprinkled throughout the arena. Those empty seats you see close to the stage, and throughout the arena? There are too many of them to account for people going to take a piss, or going to get a beer. Those are seats that B0wery tried to sell to the secondary market that never ended up getting sold.

Posted by Anonymous | December 10, 2011 9:31 AM

omg, hipsters with no shirts, sweaty pits, in the front row, snapping photos. nasty

Posted by Anonymous | December 10, 2011 10:17 AM

if this 'sells out' wait until week of and you'll be able to get tons of tix for face value or below.

Posted by Anonymous | December 10, 2011 12:15 PM

It was like that at both the Str0kes and the Arc@de F1re shows at MSG. Both were technically "sold out" via TM weeks before.

Posted by Anonymous | December 10, 2011 12:52 PM

But then a few days before each show, t1ckets magically appeared in the TM system. "Production changes" or some nonsense, right? Let's face it, the Str0kes and Arc@de Fire are popular bands, but are the Str0kes reallyyyy popular enough to actually fill every single seat in MSG without opening acts almost as popular as them?

Posted by Anonymous | December 10, 2011 12:52 PM

Is Arc@de F1re popular enough to fill every single seat for TWO shows there? I was at both shows, and yes, there were people sitting up top, but there were plenty of good seats empty here and there.

Posted by Anonymous | December 10, 2011 12:53 PM

I'm rambling, but my point is that B0wery is pulling some fishy stuff, holding back 75% of the house from the T1cketmaster ticket sale, claiming the show is "sold out", then all of a sudden thousands of t1ckets magically appear on Stubb Hub.

Posted by Anonymous | December 10, 2011 12:54 PM

I wrote the last few posts. I had to break them up into several posts and change words so that BV wouldn't block. But you get my drift.

Posted by Anonymous | December 10, 2011 12:54 PM

My point is, they are creating an artificial buzz by making the show "sold out". Human nature dictates that people always want to go to something they can't get into, so naturally people want to pay more now, and people who normally wouldn't have even thought about going now want to spend money on a show they previously had no interest in seeing, before there was a "buzz".

Posted by Anonymous | December 10, 2011 1:01 PM

So even if they don't reallyyy sell all the seats, if they are selling a good chunk of the seats for double or triple the face value, they are increasing the amount of the REAL gross they are pulling in for the show, had it just sold out on its own.

Posted by Anonymous | December 10, 2011 1:01 PM

BTW, this has nothing to do with T1cketMaster; it's not their fault. It's all in the hands of the promoter, the agent, and unfortunately sometimes (more often than not) the band and their management too.

Posted by Anonymous | December 10, 2011 1:02 PM

i have never been to a concert at MSG and never would

Posted by Anonymous | December 10, 2011 1:50 PM

2 hipster douches in that pic!

Posted by Anonymous | December 10, 2011 1:52 PM

Ever think maybe the band/label/agents holds back hundreds of tickets for themselves, and then releases them back to the public when they don't use them and that's why more tickets go on sale day of?

Because that's actually what happens guys.

Posted by Anonymous | December 10, 2011 2:29 PM

2:29, yes that is part of it... but a small part of it. But they only had back hundreds, maybe a thousand or so for the band/label etc. Not THOUSANDS. You're delusional if you don't think there's a moneygrab going on. There have been articles ahd books written about corruption in the ticketing industry. Trent Reznor has admitted that it happens (although he doesn't take part in it).
You really need to read 'Ticket Masters: The Rise of the Concert Industry and How the Public Got Scalped', by Dean Budnick.

Posted by Anonymous | December 10, 2011 2:59 PM

And here's where Trent Reznor talks about it on his blog http://forum.nin.com/bb/read.php?59,548515

Posted by Anonymous | December 10, 2011 3:01 PM

2:29 = Jim Glancy

Posted by Anonymous | December 10, 2011 4:41 PM

Direct quote from Trent "The venue, the promoter, the ticketing agency and often the artist camp (artist, management and agent) take tickets from the pool of available seats and feed them directly to the re-seller (which from this point on will be referred to by their true name: SCALPER). I am not saying every one of the above entities all do this, nor am I saying they do it for all shows but this is a very common practice that happens more often than not. There is money to be made and they feel they should participate in it. There are a number of scams they employ to pull this off which is beyond the scope of this note."

Posted by Anonymous | December 10, 2011 4:45 PM

5:27 - "intimacy with the band"?

you actually believe they know YOU are there? your ego will not fit into MSG

Posted by Anonymous | December 11, 2011 12:57 PM

Hey 7:30 can i suck on your dick??

Posted by Anonymous | December 11, 2011 9:59 PM

I bet a lot of people thought they were buying tickets for Blueshammer, because they play authentic blues.

Pickin Cotton All Day > Lonely Boy

Posted by Anonymous | December 12, 2011 12:17 AM

Got 4 West GA tickets. Going by myself, gonna camp outside the doors, get front row, stare down Pat and Dan, show them my three other West GA tickets, light them on fire in front of their eyes, and WALK THE FUCK OUT.

Posted by Anonymous | December 13, 2011 10:14 AM

who got floor seats for the second show? anyone? doubt it. :-)

Posted by Anonymous | December 13, 2011 10:14 AM

i have to say, the black keys presales are almost worse than w.a.s.t.e

almost.

Posted by Anonymous | December 13, 2011 10:21 AM

i thought that presale was very, very easy to navigate. pulled 2 west GA, then realized that there was a higher ticket minimum. went back, and pulled another 2 west GA. you guys really got shut out?

not trying to tease, just surprised.

Posted by Anonymous | December 13, 2011 10:22 AM

I managed to get four tix in sec 107 right at 10am but floor seats? hahahaha

Posted by Anonymous | December 13, 2011 10:22 AM

10:22 I also got West GA. I was the person who posted at 10:14am. Not actually walking out of the show, though.

Posted by Anonymous | December 13, 2011 10:23 AM

i hit the refresh thing every few seconds or so prior to 10 and well past, never being given the "go live" option. i renavigated to the page, only to find that it was locked out due to capacity. such bullshit.

Posted by Anonymous | December 13, 2011 10:31 AM

i refreshed - didn't get to the ticket buying page until like 10:02, still got west ga.

Posted by Anonymous | December 13, 2011 10:32 AM

I also got West GA. I had to refresh a few times but it finally came up.

Posted by anonymous | December 13, 2011 10:58 AM

fuck presales, fuck the black keys, and fuck you. fuck!

Posted by Anonymous | December 13, 2011 11:21 AM

will there be any presale for this concert?

Posted by anon | December 13, 2011 9:28 PM

10:14 - I'm not sure what that will accomplish. If anything, they'll be happy that you gave them your money for 4 tickets.

Posted by Anonymous | December 14, 2011 10:24 AM

928 presale was yesterday at 10am.

Posted by Anonymous | December 14, 2011 10:37 AM

what the f, i thought i got GA tickets. What nonsense is East GA? Sounds like East Berlin, i bet there is even a wall. I never wanted to go to a show at MSG, now I wish I hadn't bought those stupid tickets.

Posted by Anonymous | December 16, 2011 10:00 AM

the ga section is split in half, with a barrier in between and perhaps 5-10 feet of space in the middle. west ga is near the stage, then east ga, then floor seating in the rear. west ga is def good, east is ok if you get near the front. otherwise, the first level off the floor would probably be better.

if it's any consolation, i didn't get shit.

Posted by Anonymous | December 16, 2011 10:32 AM

If your a big fan of the Black Keys check out Tyler Bryant & the Shakedown! Super similar and also super good!
