Sex Pistols

As far as vinyl records go, there are some that are ten a penny and others that are a little rarer, but a Sex Pistols recording of "God Save The Queen" has been named by Record Collection as the most valuable vinyl in the world. And it is up for sale now.

The 1977 single, which was recorded before the Pistols were dropped by their record label and most copies of it were destroyed, making the number of copies actually released limited. -[Music Rooms]

Get your copy for $15,500 at 991.com. The owner describes it as "obtained from an ex-industry source with impeccable credentials, this is not only one of the rarest records in existence but is certainly the most sought after and no serious record collection is complete without it, regardless of your thoughts on the band or indeed the music itself".

If you buy now, you can probably still get it in time for Christmas,

"Be quick before the original owner wants it back", yeah right. This has been up for sale for at least a year now.

Isn't the Beatles butcher cover more expensive? Or a first pressing of either Rocket 88 or That's Alright Mama?

Meh. Love the Sex Pistols, but if I had money to burn on stupid shit like this, I'd rather blow it on high class whores and a pet monkey.

I think Nick DiPaolo's earliest recorded comedy album "Beered Up" is actually the most valuable vinyl out there. Look it up!

the guy who could fit 100 cigarettes in his mouth at the same time had a really rare record. no one would spend the money these days to break that record.

Many more records are far more valuable that this. While this is up there, it's not the most expensive record out there. Stereo first state Beatles Butcher cover Yesterday and Today LPS go for $25,000 plus

A Freewheelin Bob Dylan with the rare tracks goes for about $30,000

huh what? yeah, okay

Frank Wilson's "Do I Love You (Indeed I Do)" single is worth about $40-50,000. It's also a better song than God Save The Queen.

Posted by Anonymous | December 14, 2011 1:02 PM

Billy Ocean's "Get Outta My Dreams" is worth about $(priceless). It's also a better song than anything the Beatles or Bob Dylan have ever recorded.

The Wham "Last Christmas" 7" is worth way more.

if monetary value is any indication of the historical worth of an artists output, I guarantee that in 40 years none of today's releases by any of today's bands will be worth anything. While a Beatles Butcher cover will by then be going for over a hundred thousand

I had that! I sold it at my garage sale for $10.00 and thought I was hosing the buyer...seller's remorse setting in right..about...NOW! :*(

My copy of Frampton Comes Alive with a Honus Wagner rookie card tucked inside the sleeve is worth much much more money than this.

and after i got my high class whores and pet monkey, i'd take a limo over to kexp's studio near seattle center and take a big shit in the dj booth for what they've done in turning the great name of kcmu into a piece of garbage pitchfork-sponsored station.

Elvis records are getting easy to find because his fans are dying off. in a decade or two the Beatles records will suffer the same. It will be some time before the punk rock collectors have reached their peak. This is an excellent collecting opportunity. It is a key item. it is not for the masses, as the comments here demonstrate.

Posted by nygrump | December 14, 2011 3:37 PM

people who care about the sex pistols are the most annoying people on this planet

Posted by Anonymous | December 14, 2011 4:10 PM

To 5:46 --

I don't know if you understand this, but worth is determined by supply and demand, and ultimately what somebody is willing to pay for something. If somebody is dumb enough to pay that much for a Sex Pistols 7", then that is what it is worth.

As far as your record collection goes, thanks for sharing that nice story.
