Jonathan Toubin

Please keep Jonathan Toubin in your thoughts today....

"..The [Portland] room's occupant, Jonathan Toubin -- a DJ from New York in town for a Thursday night show at a Southeast Portland club -- "was literally stuck under the front of the car."

The cab couldn't be backed out of the room because its back wheels were stuck on what was left of Room 115's front wall or window panel.

Palmiter, standing by the driver's side rear quarter panel, and three maintenance men lifted the cab's back tires up and off the front wall.

Within 10 to 20 seconds, they freed the tires and hotel worker Albert Abad was able to inch the cab in reverse, off Toubin.

Toubin was unclothed and semi-conscious, able to move his hands and legs slightly as paramedics rushed to treat him, police said.

Toubin had been pinned between the cab and the room's back wall, said Lt. Rich Tyler, of Station 1. Firefighters placed the man on a backboard. "As he was carried into an ambulance, he was able to talk, but completely covered in blood," Tyler said. " [Oregon Live]

Please get well soon Jonathan!

UPDATE: There will be benefits for Jonathan at both Motor City and Home Sweet Home in NYC Friday night (12/9).

he is friend to countless people in and out of NYC and a great contributor to this community. please be careful when reading some of the local reporting that's been going on in portland about this unbelievable tragedy. there has been some flagrant reporting that the public has a right to scrutinize - our thoughts are with jonathan, his family and many many friends.

This is terrible news. Thoughts and prayers are with you my friend!

Yes, there are ground floor hotel rooms.

Review the status of all the drivers in your family with your agent. Most discounts apply only to one portion of the auto insurance policy but still you should check "Clearance Auto" website.

2:03 and 2:52 are super excited that I'm even mentioning their existence in this email. Writing silly comments on this board hoping for people to be in shock is their way of making up for being that invisible loser in life. Must suck to only have a voice behind a keyboard, huh?

Get better Jonathan :)

I enjoyed reading your articles. This is truly a great read for me. I have bookmarked it and I am looking forward to reading new articles. Keep up the good work!thanks.

Very well put, 4:02. You can add 4:11 to the list of human flotsam.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 5:29 AM

4:11 is a robo text. Pay no attention to the robot.

A great DJ. I have danced countless times to your sets. Hoping the best!

This is awful. Our thoughts are with you, Jonathan. Get well.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 8:05 AM

"Toubin was unclothed"...Well now we know he sleeps bare ass. Hope he's OK.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 8:11 AM

get well, j

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 8:44 AM

Get well soon. Pretty horrible story.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 10:08 AM

Just read that it was a woman cab driver. Whenever something like this happens, nine times out of ten it's a woman. Women shouldn't be driving. End of discussion.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 10:23 AM

light and love to you mr. wonderful. get well soon.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 10:42 AM

HOW on earth can any of you write snide BS on a story like this??

God dammit BV, don't you understand that your site's content & reputation is now FAR overshadowed by these despicable people???
When will you do something?

Thoughts out to Jonathan & family at this senseless time - hope to see him back behind decks soon.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 11:05 AM

This is a sad story.
And as to BV, how hard would it be to make commenters register and not allow anonymous comments such as the one I am posting now?

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 11:16 AM

Don't want to feed the trolls... I've said it before, but, BV, PLEASE disable comments on posts like this.

Jonathan is one of the most interesting smart warm loving funny charming hot cool tasteful people in nyc, a treasure.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 11:45 AM

Hope the guy's alright, but more importantly--why do DJs still exist?

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 12:14 PM

It wasn't "senseless"- it was an accident. senseless would indicate intent.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 12:24 PM

For many of us who have known Jonathan when he lived in Austin, we wish him a speedy recovery -- Jonathan always has an infectious, awesome personality that's great to be around! Get well Jonathan!

Posted by Friends in TX | December 9, 2011 12:33 PM

12:24, "accidents" almost always indicate negligence if not intent.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 12:37 PM

"It wasn't "senseless"- it was an accident. senseless would indicate intent."

I think "heartless" wouuld probably be a more accurate word for your description. "Senseless" meaning "doesn't make sense". After hearing about a car crashing into a hotel and running over somebody, do you think "Yeah, makes sense."? Especially when you don;t know all the details that went on?

All that being said, hope Mr. Toubin makes a speedy recovery. God speed.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 12:42 PM

12:24 — you are not only incorrect, but also insensitive & tactless.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 12:45 PM

nope, 12:24 is actually correct,'senseless' implies intent, or at least design.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 12:47 PM

Intent would mean the driver "intended" to crash thru the wall and
barrel into the DJ- that would be "senseless". that doesn't appear to be the case here, therefore the accident did not cause a "senseless time".

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 12:48 PM

JT, love ya man.. all the best.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 1:12 PM

Not 'heartless', but awful, that would be the correct word to use.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 1:14 PM

"Implies" implies implication.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 1:28 PM

Sending Jonathan love and well wishes!

Posted by Cheryl | December 9, 2011 2:29 PM

"Not 'heartless', but awful, that would be the correct word to use."

Either one would be fine. But let's not get carried away with semantics here...

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 2:37 PM

Really? Fighting over words? Senseless? Heartless? You people have no life!

Posted by REALLY | December 9, 2011 2:44 PM

God Bless him.

12:14PM - WHY DO YOU EXIST?

JT has set the backdrop for many memorable evenings with his insanely well curated mixes. What have you done to make people enjoy their lives a little more?

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 5:56 PM

Ahh that's awful. Thoughts with J.T.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 6:37 PM

come back, jonathan...

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 10:41 PM

Why was it necessary for the journalist to say he was "unclothed"? What's that got to do w anything?

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 10:56 PM

^he was 'with' frohawk when the car hit

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2011 11:04 PM
