Occupy BroadwayOccupy Broadway

On Dec 2nd at 6pm, hundreds of performers and artists will occupy a privately owned public space in Times Square with 24 hours of non-stop free performances.

In recent weeks, we have seen a push to tramp on our rights to public assembly, public space and by extension democracy itself.
In response, we join a global struggle from Tahrir Square to Davis, California with occupation as a form of creative resistance. Rather than oppose something, we are using public space to create a more colorful image of what our streets could look like, with public performances, art, and music in once vacant corporate, bonus plazas. Through this movement, New York re-imagines itself as a work of art, rather than a retail shopping mall. With capitalism gone mad, foreclosures increasing, and bank crises consuming whole communities, we are signaling through the flames that there is another way of living. Join us.
Occupy public space. Reclaim democracy. We are all part of the show! and the show must go on!

Sign our Manifesto online here.

This happens at Times Square between 46th & 47th Street "south of the red staircase".

Meanwhile go check out Zuccotti Park and then Lincoln Center.

"This happens at Times Square between 46th & 47th Street 'south of the red staircase'."

Yeah, walk up and knock 4 times - 1 2 wait 3 4 - then tell the guy that Louie sent you. He'll ask what time it is, and you say "time for some hummus". When you get in there may be some big guys patting you down, but don't worry they're just there to keep the undesirables out.

Don't tell 'em where you heard this from.

So cute. I wonder how much the orchestra seats cost for this dancing monkey extravaganza!?!?

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2011 8:14 AM

So, Occupy Broadway is just a 24 hour publicity stunt? How about next week when I want to take the kids to see Lion King - can I just walk in without paying and sit up front then? You all will be down for the cause then, right? Who gonna back me up here?

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2011 8:15 AM

Only the 1% can bring their families to the Lion King.

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2011 8:19 AM

It's going to be one 24 hour drum circle. On BROAAAAADWAAAAAAAAY!

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2011 8:21 AM

I'm gonna bring my bongo and play like Maynard G. Krebs

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2011 8:36 AM

I'm excited fo shizzle. There haven't been armies of filthy, semi-literate degenerates in Times Square since that bastard Giuliani took over. I believe that I shall mark this joyous occasion with a steak from Tad's, rubbing one out at a peep show and booking a room at the Milford Plaza! It is the lullaby of all Broadway, you know.

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2011 8:38 AM

this is hilarious, their schtick just gets better and better (and continues to accomplish nothing)

this sounds better suited for occupy bethel, ny

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2011 8:40 AM

Giuliani would have hit this clown shit with the fire hose by now

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2011 8:45 AM

I went to the opening of the Lion King in like...1999? I'm definitely the 1%. And proud of it.

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2011 9:23 AM

WOW is this ^ all from the same person? Most people at OWS are not filthy, semi-literate degenerates, but that's what TV news will have you believe.

Posted by Anonymous2 | December 1, 2011 9:46 AM

we have one or two resident FOX news trolls here. yeah, mostly it's one dude, i think.

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2011 10:03 AM

Thank you 946am. Fuckin hipsters/trust fund kids will never understand what this movement is about....

maybe when their parents stop giving them allowances, they will wake up to the real world.

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2011 10:04 AM

and like clockwork, here come the "wake up" calls.

priceless!

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2011 10:06 AM

1. Occupy Wall Street
2. ???
3. Profit

....the ??? is starting to come into focus with all these bandwagon performances.

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2011 10:09 AM

10:04...It's not a movement. Movements create change.

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2011 10:10 AM

I don't want to work, I just want to bang on these drums all day.

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2011 10:16 AM

I don't even watch TV. But, FOX News, yeah. Sure. It's kind of weird how often you hear assertions like that from a certain kind of person though. It's like they've been brainwashed into projecting brainwashing on other people.

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2011 10:19 AM

10:09 what's that from?

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2011 10:19 AM

@1019 south park underwear gnomes, perfect metaphor for occupy wall street.

Step 1 - Steal Underpants
Step 2 - ???
Step 3 - Profit

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2011 10:21 AM

Hey! Did you guys catch Miley Cyrus's Occupy song? It's fabulous!

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2011 10:22 AM

Seriously, this Fox News bashing is insane. You realize they get more viewers than both CNN and MSNBC COMBINED?!?!?! Like, twice what those two get.

Clearly more than just conservatives watch Fox.

Anyway, it's funny that the brainless on here are commenting about hipster trust fund kids being conservative. I am conservative, yes, but I'm not a hipster or a trust fund baby. I know a heck of a lot of liberal hipster trust fund babies, though.

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2011 10:23 AM

When this movement ends, I really wonder who will be ridiculed more: the protestors, or the musicians who attempted to support this movement for publicity's sake.

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2011 10:28 AM

10:21 I am on the floor laughing

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2011 10:29 AM

"99% is a misnomer. The majority of Americans do not support this movement.
Neither do I."

THANK YOU. They should call themselves the 0.1% of the 99% who choose to complain about everything rather than find viable solutions to problems.

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2011 10:32 AM

ZuMEHti Park.

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2011 10:39 AM

10:28, this movement will never end.

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2011 11:26 AM

effin awesome, take that bllomberg. too bad theres no money for you to suck out of this one hahaha

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2011 11:33 AM

I've had some movements that I thought would never end. Bad hummus. Whoa boy!

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2011 11:34 AM

No ridiculous liberal news bias, no need for Fox News.

You doofus.

You don't like Fox News because you don't agree with their take on things? Fix the other media conglomerates from disseminating liberal filth continuously.

Pretty simple, really. Guaranteed you won't agree to it, though - those in control rarely willingly relinquish the control. That's why there's Fox News, Nancy.

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2011 1:22 PM

I hear ya, 11:34!

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2011 1:31 PM

I mean, wake up, mannn

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2011 1:39 PM

1126 talk to me in a year. this is a fad at it's peak. no aim, no structure, no specific goals = no future.

it'll die down slowly as the protestors realize that what they set out to achieve is impossible, short of a full-scale class revolution that dismantles the entire governmental/economic system.

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2011 1:43 PM

Sorry jerks, you still have to pay your student loans.

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2011 1:43 PM

sorry jerk your daddy probs paid for your college bill

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2011 2:55 PM

Sorry jerk chicken I ordered

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2011 3:11 PM

2:55 it's called intergenerational success; life doesn't start/stop when you're born. people before you have been working too, and it affects future generations.

please tell me you can logically extend the concept of earned wealth past the date of your birth. for all you know, his parents were hard-working american dreamers, thus allowing them to pay for his tuition. for all we know, yours blew all their money on oxy so you couldn't afford college. or maybe they jsut took out a mortgage they shouldn't have; chose to accept a predatory loan; or simply enrolled you in a college that they couldn't afford. does this make him a bad person and you a good person? hell no.

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2011 3:11 PM

^ Pay back your loans motherfucker!

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2011 3:14 PM

I had what could have been a crushing student loan debt. Fortunately, in contrast to all the whiny Occupy Wall Street bitches, I went to an elite college, majored in something useful, made an boatload of money and paid back the loans. Fuck you to anyone who went to a school they couldn't afford, majored in something self-indulgent and now thinks the world owes them anything. You're stupid. Deal with it.

"(OWS) it'll die down slowly as the protestors realize that what they set out to achieve is impossible, short of a full-scale class revolution that dismantles the entire governmental/economic system."

So the alternative is to do nothing, say nothing? be a good citizen, act "normal", sit back and take it?

Change doesn't have to come thru "full-scale class revolution" and it doesn't have come overnight.

The Roman, Brit, + Soviet Empires were also deemed too monolithic to fail.

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2011 8:39 AM

^ 8:39 believe it or not, you do not speak intelligently about alternative strategies, and it is not surprising that you grossly misrepresent them. But, this is not about alternative strategies, it is about the lack of vision and reason of this strategy (ows), and it's growing irrelevance to anything.

You are certainly welcomed to keep building straw man arguments to throw poop at, but you are clearly not representing the alternatives and you are not fooling us with your silly misdirect, bait and switch, "pay no attention to that man behind the curtain" tactics. Stay on point, silly.
