The Roots on the Intrepid (more by Dominick Mastrangelo)
The Roots

The Roots and "special surprise guests" will celebrate the holdays at their 5th Annual Okayplayer Holiday Jam, which goes down at Brooklyn Bowl on Thursday (12/15), followed by the usual Questlove DJ stint shortly thereafter. The show is private, but you (and a guest) can win a special invite by signing up for the Okayplayer newsletter. Further details are at the Okayplayer site.

The Roots will also celebrate legendary delta blues musician Robert Johnson's 100th birthday at the Apollo on March 6th, joining a lineup that includes Shemika Copeland, Bettye LaVette, Taj Mahal, Keb Mo, Sam Moore, Todd Rundgren and more TBA. Tickets are on sale, and the show will double as a benefit for the construction of the Blues Hall of Fame by the Blues Foundation in Memphis.

The Roots recently celebrated the release of their new LP Undun and inddirectly called Michelle Bachmann a "Lyin' Ass Bitch" (and will no longer have carte blanche on the songs they play as a result).

Video of Questlove and Black Thought from Power 105 this morning discussing the Michelle Bachmann incident, as well as the concept behind Undun is below...

undun aside, band lost all credit when they made the decision to be the house band for arguably the least funny individual on the planet.

Well, Nick DiPaolo is the funniest man on the planet (Certified) so it wouldn't be him.

Certainly there's gotta be someone who is less funny on the whole planet....

Posted by Anonymous | December 14, 2011 4:38 PM

@438, nope, it's him.

Pretty sure Jay Leno, with all his stolen material and shitty original jokes, is far less funny than Fallon. And that's only looking at late-night television show hosts.

tosh.o may be an idiot, but he can be hilarious sometimes

Don't you guys want 50% more cash?

Posted by Anonymous | December 14, 2011 5:46 PM

i'm gonna have to put my foot down, here. NOBODY is less funny than Carlos Mencia.

Sweet, won my tickets

Thats so stupid that they cant play what they want for the guests' entrance music anymore. Let them be. They usually come up with great songs, and before Bachmann they never tried to insult someone via their walk-out music.

Fallon is hilarious and a refreshing addition to late night television.

Fallon sucked when he first took the show over, but he has improved dramatically since then. The show is actually decent now.

Ya'll might also like Anthony Hamilton's newest album titled "Back to Love". There is an awesome single music video that is on Vevo ( http://vevo.ly/vJJeIQ ) called "Woo". Give it a go and let me know what you think!
