The National
The National

The National played their fourth of six shows at Beacon Theater last night (12/15). Wye Oak, who toured a lot with the National in 2011, opened the show. It was Wye Oak's last show of the year. Their first was on the same stage when they opened for the Decemberists in January. If they're ever playing there again, make it a point to go see them because they sound so good in there.

Wye Oak's Jenn Wasner later joined the National on stage for "Blood Buzz" and again for "Conversation 16" which Matt said was named that partly because his wife didn't think it was a good idea to name it "Brains". Andy and Jenn came back out for the show-closing, a capella "Vanderlyle".

Things run pretty similar each night. You can read our review (with pics) from night one HERE. Watch videos from night two HERE. Check out pics from night three HERE. Watch night six LIVE ONLINE COURTESY OF FUSE TOMORROW (12/17). Check out more pictures, the setlist and a couple of videos from last night, night four, below...

Best one so far

^ Cool! Lately, I'm finding it kind of hard to sleep once I get home.

Wye Oak > The National

Good God, that chick has a huge ass.

Posted by Anonymous | December 16, 2011 3:05 PM

That was one amazing show!!!! My friend and i scalped tickets and it was worth it, they killed it!

Posted by Anonymous | December 16, 2011 3:15 PM

ENOUGH WITH THIS YOU FUCKING MORONS!
We know you suck this band's dick but these shows do not deserve all this coverage. This band has played 10000 times over the years and pretty much the same sets the last 2. Give it a rest jesus.

Man, I wish they'd played Exile Vilify on Tuesday. That's one of my favorites of their recent stuff.

3:24: It's like this EVERY time one of those lame bands like Yo La Tengo or Pavement come to town to play like a month straight. You kinda just have to wait until it passes.

I have to say this is good for me because I've been getting insomnia for the past week or so.

I hate the National almost as much as I hate immigrants.

Wye Oak were great. I was really happy to see them live.

I enjoyed the National's set, but I've seen better shows of them. Bowery Ballroom, MHofW, BAM, etc. I was a little disappointed that they didn't play "Secret Meeting," "Mistaken for Strangers," or "Apartment Story," but you can't have everything.

As for those who are complaining that this is the upteenth post of The National, how about shutting the f&*k up? I didn't go to any of the other shows this week. I went to Thursday's show, and I am really psyched to read a post about it. If you aren't interested, just skip it. No one is forcing you to read it. Is your poor wrist tired from all of the extra scrolling it has to do to reach the next post?

as much as some people think this band is boring, the recycled jokes about sleeping through their set have outdone the band. congratulations. you are even more trite and predictable than the subject matter you're trying to ridicule.

Posted by Anonymous | December 16, 2011 3:50 PM

Not the same sets at all. It's amazing how many people on here are like sheep, regurgitating the same BS rhetoric.

They barely play anything off Aligator anymore. Didn't even here secret meeting or Abel on weds night. You are usually garanteed to hear both those from past shows. They did do Green Gloves off Boxer, which was nice to hear. Been to 6 national shows in NYC over the past years and never heard that song.

dat ass

So, I went to take a nap last night and a National concert broke out.

As I was walking out, I asked the usher why he kept tazing himself. "It's the only way I can stay awake!" he said.

A local radio station was running a listener promotion contest - first prize was a pair of tickets to see The National. Second prize was two pairs.

I'm here all week, folks, just like The National. Try the veal; Don't forget to tip your waitresses.

I've met the singer from Wye Oak, and her ass is fine and she's actually a nice person.

The drummer, he's a douchenozzle though - MAJOR cock block.

Set is way better than Wed....ehh, maybe go again if I can get cheap seats tomorrow.

Posted by Anonymous | December 16, 2011 4:07 PM

Much more effective than Tylenol PM.

Posted by Anonymous | December 16, 2011 4:23 PM

I've been pleasantly surprised how much they're changing up the setlists. Not a band known for doing that, but they're pulling out some relatively deep cuts. Thirsty, Driver, Exile, and Son don't get played all that often. Did they skip "Daughters of the Soho Riots" though? I don't remember hearing it.

Posted by Paul | December 16, 2011 4:26 PM

Let's see, should I go to see The National tonight or go see Lee Renaldo and Steve Shelly at Glasslands? Hmmmm ... tough choice.

Posted by Anonymous | December 16, 2011 4:27 PM

Getting excited in the way that The National are changing up their setlist over the last 4 nights is kind of like getting excited over an Alec Baldwin cameo on SNL.

Despite the economy, I received a handsome bonus from my investment banker employer and I would like to know how much to have Wye Oak lady for 3.5 hours this coming Wednesday night? If anyone knows the answer please post here and I will have my secretary contact you with a handsome finder's bonus.

Posted by Anonymous | December 16, 2011 4:33 PM

The National really care about the comments here.

Posted by Anonymous | December 16, 2011 4:44 PM

Tix for Friday and Saturday are back up on TM.

Dan @ 3:45 must be friends with Sarah from the Loom. What do you expect, haters? For the National to bear their teeth like Louis Armstrong? (By the way, where DID that thread/post go? Hmmmm.)

They're NICE PEOPLE, donchakknow.

Posted by Anonymous | December 16, 2011 5:07 PM

"bear their teeth"?

Posted by Anonymous | December 16, 2011 5:42 PM

lol donchakknow lol lol

Posted by Anonymous | December 16, 2011 6:18 PM

Posted by Anonymous | December 16, 2011 7:18 PM

does that chick from wye oak have a dong tattooed on her arm?

Posted by Anonymous | December 16, 2011 7:22 PM

really? did that thread get taken down about the loom's twat singer cuz their members curate bv now that l.e.v.i.n.e. lives in tx?

Posted by Anonymous | December 16, 2011 8:14 PM

This whole rash or boredom ends . . . . when?

Each night you keep showing the same photos of the singer

we get the gist, they are the flavor of 36 months. the taste is fading

Posted by Anonymous | December 16, 2011 8:46 PM

3:52 wishes he could launder and iron the bands clothing

Posted by Anonymous | December 16, 2011 8:48 PM

here is the deal. i usually dont read a lot about my daughter online.... well i try not to.. but jesus christ. you douchebags are commenting on someone elses kid. she doesnt give a flying fuck what you say, she doesnt read any of this. fuck you. try to do half of what she does. work your pointless day job, then comment on other people working their day job..that is far from pointless. oh! sorry, thats what you already do! what makes you the critic? your loser life? ummmm . no. fuck you.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2011 12:32 AM

^^^ shit just got real

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2011 2:53 AM

Your daughter sucks a bag of dicks.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2011 4:14 AM

12:32...either Wye Oak's girlsingerz dad is really hip or sarah from the loom is a total troll.

Posted by carmine | December 17, 2011 10:36 AM

Daddy was a chubby chaser

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2011 11:24 AM

all that attention from 'dad' might be why these chubbs get up and sing in front of strange men. right sarah?

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2011 11:49 AM

no way on earth 12:32 am is a man.
