The Adventures of Pete & Pete

Here's an early '90s reunion I was not expecting, but is genuinely welcome. The good folks at The AV Club are hosting "An Evening with Pete & Pete" which will happen at Bowery Ballroom on February 24. Tickets are on sale at noon today (1/26).

Airing from 1993 - 1996 on Nickelodeon, The Adventures of Pete & Pete was one of the weirdest, funniest, coolest shows of the '90s. What will this event entail? Here's what the AV Club says:

The list of cast and crew attendees is still growing, but as of right now, the whole Wrigley clan (Michael Maronna, Danny Tamberelli, Judy Grafe, and Hardy Rawls) are confirmed, as are Ellen (Alison Fanelli) and Artie (Toby Huss). The show's creators Chris Viscardi and Will McRobb will be there, as will writer and director Katherine Dieckmann.

Earlier this year, some of the cast re-united in Los Angeles at Cinefamily, for a sold-out event that streamed live online. That was so much fun that we decided to help make this happen at least one more time-Chicago, watch your calendars-for all longtime blowholes and scab-biters. The A.V. Club's reviews of The Adventures Of Pete And Pete have brought together old cast and crew members, so this just seemed like a natural next step.

Maybe Steve Buscemi, who played Ellen's father, will show up? Who can say. One thing we do know is Polaris won't be there to perform the super-catchy theme song. The band, which featured Miracle Legion's Mark Mulcahy, existed only for the purposes of the show and never played live to my knowledge.

But being Bowery Ballroom you'd expect some live music, right? The show featured tons of indie rock on the soundtrack (Magnetic Fields were all over this show) and featured on-camera cameos from such musicians as Michael Stipe, Juliana Hatfield, Syd Straw, Marshal Crenshaw, Iggy Pop and Debbie Harry. And Danny Tamberelli (Little Pete) is now a musician himself, fronting the band Jounce, so maybe that's a possibility? Sounds like a fun event in any case. Pipe!

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2012 1:44 PM

Polaris essentially did play live when Mark Mulcahy toured / opened for Frank Black in the late 90's. (The drummer and bassist from Polaris were a part of Frank's back-up band for a tick) The aforementioned backed up Mark on that tour and they would close the sets with "Hey Sandy"! I did not expect this to happen when I witnessed a performance at the Los Angeles Troubador. Needless to say, I screamed my head off like a pubescent adolescent fighting the Atlantic Ocean.

Posted by Basque Breakfast | January 26, 2012 1:47 PM

Will the blue bowling ball make an appearance? And will the audience be asked to replicate a marching band line in the shape of a squid?

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2012 1:47 PM

^ weird, I was gonna ask earlier if the Catholics were in fact just Polaris sans Mark Mulcahy. But then I couldn't find any info on this anywhere. Thanks for making me realize I'm not crazy

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2012 1:48 PM

Galaxie 500 rip off theme song

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2012 6:00 PM

I'm not even 40 and there's nothing to lament nostalgically about Nickelodean for whatsoever. How fucking old are you people?

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2012 6:26 PM

Durr, I don't know this show, must be hipster shit!

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2012 6:33 PM

How old do you expect them to be? I don't even understand what your point is, caveman. Nickelodeon had some good shows back in the early 90's. I wasn't a big Pete and Pete fan, but enjoyed it. It really was an odd show, I remember the dad finding a car buried in the sand at the beach, solar sneezes, good times.

Polaris had an album didn't they? I listen to some of their songs every once in a while, Hey Sandy, waiting for october, she is staggering, good stuff.

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2012 6:38 PM

I like Caveman just not a big fan of Nickelodeon.

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2012 6:41 PM

neeeeeeeeeeed to do a second show!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2012 6:52 PM

was it just redheads who were into the show?

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2012 6:56 PM

this should just be a weekly show, seeing how every cast member is currently lacking in the gainful employment department

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2012 7:00 PM

The age in here is predominantly mid-twentites. It makes sense. The show aired from 93-96.

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2012 7:06 PM

175 bucks a ticket on the secondary market? I could get little Pete to blow me for less

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2012 7:23 PM

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2012 8:25 AM

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2012 8:51 AM

Another Pete and Pete show added at 7PM the same night - the sold out one is at 10:30PM. Tickets on sale Monday

Posted by texastab | January 27, 2012 2:37 PM

So cool to see the wonderful Pete and Pete getting some retro love. Back then, I thought I was the only one who knew about it. For the record, Polaris was the then-current lineup of Miracle Legion minus guitarist Ray Neal. The bassist and drummer later joined Frank Black's band, but they were still in Miracle Legion at the time that they did their Pete and Pete stuff.

prediction for post-show bv comments:

- can you believe how fat danny got? he's been eating a lot of hummus, and not the good kind.
- that chick that played ellen wasn't there.
- artie wasn't there. what a fucking crock of shit.
- major props to bowery for the vodka-infused mr. tasty bars. good touch. sucked that they were $15 though.
- there was no music at this. just some old d-level actors looking to make a quick buck. what a waste of a night.
- people wouldn't shut up during the speeches. new york is horrible for this kind of crap.
- i had a viacom photographer in my face the whole night, blocking my view. oh well; at least it's going to be on a 2am nick-u special.
- to the dude out front hawking krebstar 3000s? not cool, buddy.
- as we were walking our, lots of folks stopped, looked at each other, and asked that one perplexing question -- "why?"

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2012 2:02 PM
