Before Charles Bradley released his excellent debut LP on Daptone Records last year, he performed under the name Black Velvet as a James Brown impersonator. On January 28 at Hiro Ballroom in NYC, he'll bring back the Black Velvet moniker for a James Brown tribute show with Jimmy Hill & The Allstarz Band. Tickets for that show are on sale now. He did Jim Brown some justice. There will always be one James Brown. The infectious smile, the unending energy and the on stage presence is difficult to emulate.
