Jane's Addiction at Irving Plaza in 2011 (more by Dana (distortion) Yavin)
Janes Addiction

Jane's Addiction resurfaced in 2011 with The Great Escape Artist, their first new album of original material since 2003's Strays. They followed the release of the album with a club tour that included two nights at Irving Plaza. In February and March, they'll head out on another tour, dubbed the "Theatre Of The Escapists" tour, where they plan to hit various theaters in North America with support from Black Box Revelation.

According to a statement from Perry Farrell:

We chose to play as many of the great theatres that we could find because we wanted to immerse the audience in a unique experience unlike any they have ever seen at a rock show. Expect an orgy of musical and visual delights. We like orgies, and hope you do too.
That tour hits the NYC-area twice: on March 4 at The Paramount in Huntington, NY and on March 6 at The Wellmont Theatre in Montclair, NJ. Tickets for the Long Island show go on venue presale Wednesday at 10am with general sale starting Saturday at the same time. Tickets for the NJ show go on sale Saturday at noon.

Jane is not addicted anymore!

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2012 7:42 AM

Jane's isn't an easy sell when NIN isn't there to move all the product (i.e. tickets)

saw them at irving plaza a month or two back-one of the best shows of the year and im a casual fan-cue the hate

Saw NIN "open" for Jane's Addiction in '08 or '09. Reznor & crew played twice as long and absolutely blew them off the stage. I always like Jane's Addiction but it was a bit embarrassing.

Just like Todd Barry opens for Ted Leo, they should have Nick DiPaolo open for these guys on tour.

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2012 9:18 AM

Gilbert Gottfried would be a great opener!

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2012 9:21 AM

THIS BAND HAS GONE IN TO THE TOILET.

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2012 9:43 AM

PERRY = WORST SINGER EVER.

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2012 9:44 AM

9:06 I saw NIN open for them as well at Jones Beach. I left halfway through Jane's set. Too bad NIN wasn't on earlier - hard to get gothy when the sun is still up!

I'm convinced no one really liked Perry's voice. It was just a great time do mushrooms and take acid. His voice is awful. A song like Pigs in Zen is such rubbish, seriously, this band was a joke.

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2012 9:55 AM

Long Island sheltered losers like this band. Nobody with a clue still thinks about them.

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2012 9:58 AM

8:41,

I don't thin Jane's, even in their heyday, was an arena-level band. Maybe on a package bill but never on their own.

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2012 10:32 AM

"Long Island sheltered losers like this band. Nobody with a clue still thinks about them."

Spoken like an even bigger loser transplant from Portland, Oregon. There are obviously people that still think of them, even though they're not in their heyday anymore. Doesn't really sound like you really have a clue either. Oh well. Next time.

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2012 10:58 AM

you can rip on jane's all you want; they've sold out, they've been to hell and back, navarro is a fucking clown, perry is a joke and looks like he belongs in a wax museum, eric a. is out for good now, and the new material sucks ass, etc, etc.

however, to say that they were never good, or cutting edge or that they didn't pave the way for TONS of bands that came after them, is simply ignorant and ridiculous. anyone making comments like that has no fucking idea what they're talking about, or is simply too young and naive to know better. do your homework before you start blathering some dumb shit.

to trent reznor's credit, he knew full well he could/should have had top billing on that joint tour a couple years back, but out of RESPECT for jane's, he deferred and let them have the spotlight. i'm really not a nin fan, but that was a classy move.

I live on Long Island with my gay son, 2 daughters, and my homely bitchy wife. I'm fat, I paint, and play in a Metal band. I don't think I'm sheltered and my favorite band is still Jane's Addiction. I will be at the Paramount show!

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2012 11:11 AM

^ ^ Loser.

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2012 11:12 AM

Sounds like some people want Janes to STOP!

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2012 11:12 AM

You twinks only wish Deerhunter or Atlas Sound would go this route towards the end. Instead, they'll just die another terrible fading death into obscurity and by then, no one will care enough to worry about what music is "cool" to like.

Here's another shot for you to enjoy life :)

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2012 11:50 AM

Dave Navarro ruled in the chili peppers. I don't know why he quit. They were at their best with him.

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2012 11:53 AM

I love this band. I just hate all the singers in crappy bands that copy Perry's voice. So many bad singers want to sound like him! It's lame.

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2012 12:34 PM

11:53, RHCP were at their best live with Navarro, but One Hot Minute was a crappy record, aside from 2 or 3 songs.

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2012 1:16 PM

12:20, yes they CHOSE theaters... over small clubs.

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2012 1:17 PM

In all fairness, a good friend of mine saw Jane's at that recent show at Irving Plaza. He's not really a fan; he just went as a favor to a friend. He told me that he was blown away and very surprised at how good they were, and how much better they were from when he saw them years ago. (I trust his opinion... he goes to tons of shows, and is pretty jaded).

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2012 1:23 PM

10:32, agreed. They have played arenas, and have even headlined MSG back in '91. But they didn't even come close to selling out that show. They couldn't without either a very strong support act, or as part of a package (like the NIN/JA show).

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2012 1:27 PM

I think the only reason why NIN opened for Janes Addiction was so it would be known as the NINJA tour!

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2012 1:33 PM

Most of the songs I know by them are pretty cool. I never really thought of Perry's voice in terms of good/bad, it's definitely different. I also like the few porno for pyros songs I know (pets, cursed female, tahitian moon).

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2012 1:36 PM

Long Island is for losers!

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2012 2:02 PM

thank god

Posted by Engadget | January 11, 2012 2:15 PM

Nah, Long Island is a nice place to live. Guess it depends on what you like. The traffic is infuriating but that's pretty much the entire metro-NY region. The taxes are also astronomical, mainly because of the school taxes. But overall, I like it here.

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2012 2:21 PM

^ Loser!

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2012 2:31 PM

you couldn't pay me to settle down on long island, unless it were a fuck ton of money. i'm talking A LOT of cheddar.

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2012 2:41 PM

^Ny Sharp Cheddar It is $6 a pound at Shoprite yo!

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2012 2:49 PM

"Long Island is for losers!"

Maybe some losers, but no thick-rimmed glasses, bearded twinks, that's for sure!
God bless LI :)

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2012 3:39 PM

real classy, Jane's fans... what a bunch of losers!

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2012 4:03 PM

1:36 Nailed it.

Too many jagoffs in crappy Long Island bands trying to sing like Perry. It's become a trend out there. Get a clue losers!

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2012 4:08 PM

I would only settle down on long island for 300k a year or more. And I would live on the south shore on the beach. That would be cool enough.

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2012 4:23 PM

Perry's voice is so dated. It makes sense those twats in the suburbs would emulate him. Long Island is a shit dump for white trash fat people.

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2012 4:32 PM

"...Nailed it."

Looks like LI isn't the only place where there's losers. Time for a reality check. :)

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2012 4:42 PM

Make that 400k

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2012 4:45 PM

The Paramount won't make it to 2013. You heard it here first yup!

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2012 4:49 PM

As he stared out his bedroom window at the wind blown plains of the American midwest, he thought to himself "I would only settle down on long island for 300k a year or more. And I would live on the south shore on the beach. That would be swing enough."

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2012 5:46 PM

Long Island is a good place to make Cy Twombly paintings that no one will ever care about.

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2012 5:48 PM

Strays was a good album.

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2012 6:02 PM

navarros nipples dipped in hummus

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2012 6:37 PM

The Paramount barely has any shows booked if you look at their calendar. Only a few shows a month.

Long Island isn't a bad place it live at all. I have beaches 10 minutes from my house, and I still have pretty easy access to all of the things I like to do in Brooklyn and Manhattan, but I don't think there is much of a point arguing with anonymous BV commenters who hate everything.

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2012 6:43 PM

6:43 is right. There's barely any shows booked now. Looks like the venue might not last the year.

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2012 7:15 PM

"Long Island is a good place to make Cy Twombly paintings that no one will ever care about."

Nice one, Dennis Miller. Have yet another drink.

Posted by Anonymous | January 12, 2012 12:24 AM

Wellmont tickets ordered ... not a huge fan but, hey, I live in Montclair and I can walk to the venue! Plus, Black Box Revelation was okay when I saw them open for Beady Eye!!!

Posted by EarlGreyTea | January 12, 2012 2:03 PM

cool story

Posted by Anonymous | January 12, 2012 2:14 PM

I miss what this band was...unfortunately, they have done nothing interesting since the early 90s. So sad.

Posted by GearsofRock | March 2, 2012 9:41 PM
