Jeff Mangum

Jeff Mangum kicks off his sold out three-night run at BAM with The Music Tapes tonight (1/19). The Brooklyn shows are part of a longer tour for the two Neutral Milk Hotel bandmates. Updated dates, Philly included, are listed below.

Jeff himself is auctioning away 2 pairs of tickets for Saturday's (1/21) show! Each pair also comes with 2 original signed Jeff Mangum drawings. The tickets are being auctioned on ebay with a current bid (as of this post) of $300 and the proceeds will be donated to Occupied Real Estate, a project regarding the foreclosure crisis by Not An Alternative and Occupy Wall Street (not the first time Jeff has shown his support). You can bid on the tickets/drawings HERE and HERE.

Updated Jeff Mangum dates (sold out Coachellas included) below...

Those who are going enjoy your 30 minute shows.

Uh, he played longer than 30 minutes at Town Hall, bud.

Posted by Anonymous | January 19, 2012 12:36 PM

yeah at ATP he played 60-70 minutes

Posted by Anonymous | January 19, 2012 12:38 PM

Let me know when he plays a new song.

Posted by Anonymous | January 19, 2012 12:47 PM

He was great last night in New Haven. He played about 65 minutes. Julian played saw on ITAOTS and Engine and the Music Tapes came out after Two Headed Boy to play The Fool.

SNOOOOOOOZE

I'll pass, thanks.

Posted by Anonymous | January 19, 2012 12:54 PM

Looking like SXSW...why no regular Tejas dates?

Posted by Anonymous | January 19, 2012 1:05 PM

dude needs to perform at radio city with a full orchestra a la spiritualized.

the casual sing-alongs around the campfire are silly when he could still actually move people with the amazing songs he's written.

Posted by Anonymous | January 19, 2012 1:07 PM

12:47 who will be first him or Waters?

Posted by Anonymous | January 19, 2012 1:41 PM

@12:47. He played a new song at the Jersey City show.
Well, an old song that he'd never played out before, anyway.

Posted by Anonymous | January 19, 2012 1:52 PM

I think it's just a matter of time before the band gets back together in full; Julian played a few shows, Scott did Jersey, Jeremy's a hawk and a hacksaw opened up a few dates, basically the whole band'sbeeb on the tour.

Posted by Anonymous | January 19, 2012 2:19 PM

he has never played for under 50 minutes. not even at OWS.

Posted by Anonymous | January 19, 2012 2:22 PM

*bands been

Posted by Anonymous | January 19, 2012 2:28 PM

I love all the Jeff Mangum show announcements because it tells me where all the gay pride meetings are going to be at.

Posted by Anonymous | January 19, 2012 2:33 PM

NO HEADLINING BAND SHOULD PLAY UNDER 60 MINUTES! Especially one that has been around over a decade...it is a rip-off and lazy...

Posted by Anonymous | January 19, 2012 2:38 PM

@238 bands playing premiere shows supporting their debut LP usually play under an hour. i'm fine with that - i don't wanna hear them churning out shit demo tracks just to fill the time.

Posted by Anonymous | January 19, 2012 2:51 PM

I really hope those tickets go for over $300, seeing how I sold each of my pairs for over $400. Granted I had seats in the first three rows for both shows. But still, I'm assuming Jeff's guestlist seats are comparable.

He should've posted the auction closer to when tickets sold out if he wanted to pull serious $ for a good cause. Not two days before the show.

Posted by Anonymous | January 19, 2012 2:52 PM

2:51..I said bands that have been around over a decade..if you have one album it is a little different.

Posted by Anonymous | January 19, 2012 2:55 PM

@251, no. you said 'especially bands that have been around over a decade.' your statement was pretty black-and-white. i can read. can you?

Posted by Anonymous | January 19, 2012 3:09 PM

^^ meant to be @255

Posted by Anonymous | January 19, 2012 3:09 PM

2:55, this is what you actually said:

"NO HEADLINING BAND SHOULD PLAY UNDER 60 MINUTES! Especially one that has been around over a decade...it is a rip-off and lazy..."

Did you forget already?

bicker, bicker... i'm going tomorrow... and intend to enjoy the show, not grinding rolaids at home...

Posted by Anonymous | January 19, 2012 3:26 PM

I hope he playzzz 2 headed boy tonite

Posted by Anonymous | January 19, 2012 4:50 PM

let me know when he plays with a band. then i might go see him for free.

Posted by Anonymous | January 19, 2012 4:50 PM

3:10 asshole...are you there!? READ IT AGAIN..one more time, SLOOOWLY!

Derpderp

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2012 8:51 AM

3:10 it is pathetic...Jeff hasn't released anything in over again. Stop shilling your old sht and put out some more music. Stop raping your audience. It isn't 1998 anymore... If you want to continue getting ripped off fine enjoy yourself.

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2012 8:55 AM

I agree too...even bands with a debut album on tour should be pushing close to 60 minutes...otherwise don't headline or at least charge under $10...it is silly to charge more than that for less than an hour of live music in a club.

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2012 9:01 AM

what were the set times last night?

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2012 9:33 AM

hey idiots , he played close to 70 minutes last night .. and never plays under 60..
...people are acting like he played 20 minutes or something.. go troll on the Laura Marling thread..

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2012 9:42 AM

when did he go on last night? i'm going to skip opener.

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2012 9:47 AM

9:42 wow! A whole 70 minutes! Was there an intermission?

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2012 9:53 AM

953 go back to scaring little children under your bridge.

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2012 9:57 AM

^great comeback..you thought of it during the intermission, right?

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2012 9:57 AM

Honest question: How come NMH isn't back yet? Are other members busy with other projects hence why Jeff is touring basically by himself except for few shows where NMH members have shown up?

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2012 10:59 AM

The last two rounds of dates have had support from NMH members, who fill out the sound for a couple of tracks. Last night, I think it may have been as many as four songs. I'm guessing either Coachella or his own ATP have been tentatively marked as the first NMH performance.

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2012 11:04 AM

what time did Mangum start yesterday?

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2012 11:19 AM

^Not sure all I know was 1, 2, 3 BAM it was over!

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2012 1:29 PM

Anyone know what time Jeff will go on stage tonight?

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2012 1:36 PM

For people that are asking the set times:
1) call bam box office
2) just show up whatever your ticket says and enjoy the opener

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2012 2:27 PM

i think he started some time around 9:00.

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2012 3:42 PM

it was about 9:10 when jeff came on last night.

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2012 4:35 PM

He didn't play 70 minutes last night. It was 60 minutes last night and 58 tonight. I recorded both. In Woodstock he played an hour and 2 minutes and Asbury Park an hour and 7 minutes. Haters gonna hate.

Posted by eliz | January 21, 2012 12:33 AM

the man's voice is a unique instrument, it was a pleasure listening to it... great songs and a wonderful show...

Posted by Anonymous | January 21, 2012 2:19 PM

Eliz - would you consider sharing those recordings? I was at the shows and would love to hear them.

Posted by Anonymous | January 21, 2012 4:13 PM

I have to figure out what to do with them. They sound pretty good. I'm not NYCtaper but I will probably put them up eventually. Just need to edit and divide up the songs

Posted by eliz | January 21, 2012 7:30 PM

I never understand why people insist on taping shows where the artist explicitly asks the audience not to record it or take pictures.

@Eliz What are you trying to prove? That you're a super fan or something? All that money and effort to see Mangum 4 times and you can't enjoy the shows without being all sneaky with a camera/recorder? Dude played the same songs every night. How would you feel if someone took your shitty art without your permission and put it out there?

Posted by Anonymous | January 22, 2012 2:29 AM

they do all the time. it's called tumblr. cry me a river.

Posted by e | January 22, 2012 5:30 PM

@ 229 are you calling mangum's art/music shitty?

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2012 1:41 AM

To clear up a little something, NY was NEVER onsale at arcadefire.com today. I was refreshing all morning and it wasn't there. Whether it was ever supposed to be or not is the confusion. Merge said it would and neither they nor Arcade Fire has said anything to clear that up.
