Spiritaulized at Radio City in 2010 (more)
Spiritualized

Psych rockers Spiritualized announced last year that they've signed with Fat Possum in the US and Domino imprint Double Six in the UK to release their new album, Sweet Heart Sweet Light, their first since 2008's Songs in A&E. The album was initially set for a March 19 release date but according to an interview with SPIN, the release is being pushed back a few weeks and will likely come out in late March or early April. Spiritualized frontman/main person Jason Pierce said:

had the rather foolish idea last November that I could deliver the record that's been sent out and keep working on the real version. I'd meet the delivery date they need for reviews and things like that and nobody would be any the wiser that I'd be carrying on with the mixing. [The new version of the album] is quite different. People say that all the little mixing moves I'm doing now are just for myself, but to me they're no different than the mixing moves I did at the start of the process. Balancing things is what mixing is. Some bits are more realized and closer to what I wanted them to sound like, but I'm in the unenviable position now where the [album] that's out there isn't finished.
The album's tracklist is below.

Spiritualized already have a number of UK dates scheduled in support of the album, and they've just announced a North American tour, including a NYC show happening on May 7 at Terminal 5. Tickets go on sale Friday (2/3) at noon with an AmEx presale starting Wednesday (2/1) at noon.

Considering his last NYC date was at Radio City, this will be a jarring contrast. I wish they could've put this at the Beacon or something, even if it boosted ticket prices $15 or $20.

I'll happily buy their next album, as I'm sure it will be excellent as always, but I'm not sure I ever want to see them again after attending the Radio City show for "Ladies and Gentlemen..." That show was transcendent and I can't see how they could ever improve upon it. I think I'd like that to be my lasting memory of seeing them live.

After seeing Spiritualized at great venues like Radio City, Apollo, and Music Hall of Williamsburg, there's no way I can enjoy this show at that shithole Terminal 5, I'm sorry.

really wish these guys would do a church show

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2012 1:43 PM

T5? No thanks.

Yeah, I agree...
Makes me wish I had gotten into this group before the Radio City show, so now I'll have to opt for the inferior T5. I'm not even a standard "hater" of the venue, and even I realize how less enjoyable that'll automatically make it.

But whatever, guess I'll have to make do.

They played Terminal 5 in 2008 too. It's a different type of show than Radio City is...way more of a GA rock show, not a big sit-down.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2012 2:03 PM

ugh, terminal 5. After the Radio City show I can't go back there.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2012 2:09 PM

T5 T5 T5 T5 shut the fuck up.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2012 2:16 PM

LOL 2:09 gonna miss Spiritualized Ha ha Ha Ha ha

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2012 2:19 PM

1:56 you are so bourgeois.
You would never have survived in 77 with the real punks.
Would have sent you crying home to mommy for being spat upon.
Go back to Iowa. Now.

They played T5 and MHOW during the last tour, and both shows were identical. Considering they left the day before and after NYC open, I would suspect they're going to add another show.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2012 2:27 PM

2:19: To be fair, it sounded like 2:09 already saw Spiritualized so doesn't sound like he'll (or she'll) be missing out too much I gather.

What's spiritualized?

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2012 2:55 PM

^ I dunno, but it sounds dangerous.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2012 3:00 PM

Spiritualized might actually be enough to get me to go to a concert at T5. Their fans are decent enough to be trapped with in a big sweaty box. Probably a lot of dudes though. Oh well, I'm gonna be so high at this thing I won't even know who I'm grinding up on.

T5, T5
Idn't it gr8 to B alive?

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2012 3:35 PM

i love T5, and T5 can't be put on BV's bad word list. Go T5. Yay T5.

"Their fans are decent enough to be trapped with in a big sweaty box. Probably a lot of dudes though."

A sausage fest indeed.

I've been to some bad shows at terminal 5, but they actually sounded great last time around.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2012 4:05 PM

1:43 - They already played a church - the Harlem Riverside church to be exact. It was amazing - almost as good as Radio City Music Hall. The fact is, this band kills wherever they play, so all you whiny little indie shits stay home.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2012 4:27 PM

There is a troll on here who likes to see his/her words typed out on a BV thread. Too many similar posts, with lame content. Probably sitting in front of his/her computer with a bottle of gin, wearing a bathrobe.

You are lame, and should not be clogging up a board regarding one of the great bands of our time.

I still like Spacemen 3 way better

Northsix in '03 was the titterz.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2012 10:10 PM

would have loved to see them for "ladies and gentlemen...". that album is massive. best thing he ever did. absolutely shits all over spaceman 3.

10:12 - opinions are like assholes....

Posted by Sunskull | January 31, 2012 11:34 AM

I knew a kid in grade school who was born without an asshole. They had to create one for him. So like the the false, formulated asshole, some people have false, formulated opinions.

Posted by Anonymous | January 31, 2012 11:44 AM

6:36: Care to point out who it is? Instead of just making vague ambiguous allusions because it sounds like you're afraid of being retaliated against?

Just an observation.

"opinions are like assholes...."

What a cop out. Challenge him.

Posted by Anonymous | January 31, 2012 12:22 PM

An angel dies every time a fantastic band gets booked at Terminal 5.

Posted by Anonymous | January 31, 2012 12:55 PM

12:22: There is nothing to challenge- music taste is subjective (doesn't sound like you know this) and I think Spacemen 3 rules over Spiritualized. Some agree with me and some don't. The end. Fuck off.

Does anyone else hate Radio City?

Posted by Real Estate | March 5, 2012 8:19 PM

I've seen Spz close to 15+ times now, and yeah, some venues are better than others. But no matter where you see them, they always end up sounding great and putting on the best light show you'll ever see. I saw them when they played the last T5 show and I thought they sounded fantastic. If you position yourself towards the stage where Pierce is playing, it makes all the difference. Plus, you're dealing with a very cool and laid back fan base who don't make asses of themselves, so that doesn't factor in to one's enjoyment of the show. Yes, T5 is one of the worst venues around, but if you go in with the attitude that Spiritualized is going to suck because Terminal 5 sucks, then yeah, you're gonna have a shit time. Pierce truly respects his fans enough to put on the best show he can each and every night. Believe me, once the lights go down and the Pure Phase tone begins, you'll forget all about what venue you're in and immerse yourself in the music. And I hate to say this, but with Jason's health seemingly in decline, who knows how many more tours he has left in him. Just go and support your band, will ya?
