Afghan Whigs
ATP

They say:

ATP are very pleased to confirm our return to Asbury Park, New Jersey USA with a new I'll Be Your Mirror event, the Saturday night of which will be headlined by The Afghan Whigs (who have reunited after a 13 year hiatus) and curated by their frontman Greg Dulli. Formed in 1986, the bands career from then until 2001 saw them release six critically acclaimed albums during their career. Fusing classic rock with grunge-era distortion and a heavy soul influence, The Afghan Whigs were one of the most renowned live bands of their time and ATP is excited to be a part of this long awaited reformation.

We are also very excited to present Grammy Award winner LOUIS C.K. (handpicked by Greg Dulli) who will be making a rare festival appearance, the fantastic THE ROOTS, JOSE GONZALEZ, a show from the reformed THE MAKE-UP and many others, see below for full line-up confirmed so far.

After previous years in upstate New York, ATP moved to the iconic Asbury Park waterfront in 2011 for a hugely successful I'll Be Your Mirror event co-curated and headlined by Portishead, and we are very happy to return to this very special location in September. The Convention Hall has seen the likes of Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, The Doors and Rolling Stones grace its stage and the Paramount Theatre has welcomed stars such as Tony Bennett who often insists on playing a song with all the electrics turned off to demonstrate the amazing acoustics of the room. Once again the ATP experience will be taking over the boardwalk, with the main shows taking place at the Convention Hall and Paramount Theatre, and other events happening at the Berkeley hotel (former home of Johnny Cash).

As well as the live music line-up of 35+ acts across the weekend, Friday will feature a Comedy stage, and we're very pleased to announce that our friends at The Criterion Collection will return to run the Cinema across the weekend. All three days feature DJs and other activities to be confirmed in the months ahead. Performances take place indoors with great soundsystems, so you have no need to worry about the weather, and Asbury Park is easily accessible via public transport from nearby cities.
Tickets, which were slightly delayed from original estimates, go on sale Monday at 10am (but are on PRESALE NOW). Initial lineup below...

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 10:36 AM

ugh what a let down. why the make up instead of nation of ulysses?

why the roots?

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 10:36 AM

Not as good as last year's lineup but one of the best festival experiences I've ever had. Highly recommended.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 10:37 AM

FAT GREG DULLI

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 10:38 AM

let me hear u say meh

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 10:41 AM

Wow, besides Dirty Three, Mark Lanegan and The Afghan Whigs that as a really weak line up.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 10:42 AM

I haven't heard a lot of these bands. Who should I check out? I'm excited for Hot Snakes.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 10:42 AM

i mean the make up is good and all but they aren't "headlining act" good.

reform slowdive, cocteau twins, ride, failure...

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 10:42 AM

The Afghan Whigs suck

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 10:43 AM

10:42

dirty three and i break horses

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 10:43 AM

It's a little more mainstream than I'd care for, but that's still a strong goddamn lineup.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 10:44 AM

Total letdown. It was a great four years, atp, we'll miss ye.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 10:44 AM

and people thought the 2010 NY lineup was weak? this is about 500 rungs below that one.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 10:46 AM

How does this work? Can I just buy tickets for Louis?

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 10:47 AM

You people are stupid. Great initial line up with much more goodness to be added.Fucking dummies. And those of you bitching about The Make-Up have never seen them live.
Excited for this but not gonna make the mistake I make every year and get tickets way in advance. Every year so far you can buy cheap tickets close to the weekend. These never s e l l out and people always dumping the 3 day passes come September.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 10:48 AM

True 1048am. 3 day passes are much cheaper this year as well.

2011: $270
2012: $200

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 10:49 AM

Pulp should be curating and headlining. Radio City's sanctioned scalping is some bullshit.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 10:50 AM

this is a great line up

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 10:51 AM

scrawl reunion...wow.

as a huge whigs fan, this is a pretty great lineup to me.

agreed on nation of ulysses though.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 10:52 AM

What are you guys talking about?! Sharon Van Etten is gonna be there and she's only playing here 3 times this weekend!

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 10:52 AM

Safe to assume Shellac and Oneida will evenually be added.

yes, initial lineup isn't that impressive, but as anyone who has been knows, this festival is more than just the music.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 10:52 AM

meh

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 10:57 AM

What's with ATP's love affair with Autolux? Solid records; dull live. Anyone that saw Boris and Liturgy at Irving Plaza a few months back knows Asobi Seksu would kill it.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 10:58 AM

no kraftwerk?

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 10:59 AM

Weakest lineup yet. The fest is awesome, but really? This shit is anemic.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 10:59 AM

Can't wait to go - and can't wait to buy tickets the week before!!!

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 11:01 AM

The lineup is not bad for $200, but then you realize that all those bands will eventually play NYC, so there is no point going to ATP if you only like 2-3 bands.

When is the last time the Dirty Three performed in the US?

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 11:01 AM

Autolux is on the ATP label, derp.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 11:01 AM

you people are crazy. This lineup is awesome and will only get better.

The Make-Up!?! Are you kidding me?

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 11:03 AM

Oh dear, BV commenters are bitching about the lineup? That is a real shocker.

This will be awesome, like every ATP. The only people who would suggest otherwise have never been to one of these festivals. Each time I go, I'm impressed by bands I didn't know or didn't expect to like, and I enjoy a bunch that I wanted to see in the first place. Win win.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 11:08 AM

This lineup is fantastic.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 11:12 AM

Weak headliners, but everything else is solid.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 11:15 AM

Last year there was no hummus vendor so I starved to death.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 11:17 AM

Great lineup, and Friday is still entirely unannounced

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 11:23 AM

have fun seeing the make-up from 30 feet away, you might as well be watching a youtube video

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 11:24 AM

Afghan Whigs. Everything else is a footnote (including Louis CK)

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 11:25 AM

On the bright side, 90% of the people who comment on BV don't go to these shows - which is precisely the reason it was great last year. No talking during shows, camera phones, drunks, spoiled kids...

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 11:27 AM

Yep buy tickets late (if at all) remember last year's line up switcheroo shenanigans?

Just wait for the NYC shows.

Fuck you ATP you shady gits.

Posted by Harrold Bishop | February 24, 2012 11:27 AM

bring back Kutshers!

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 11:27 AM

I've been to 10 ATPS so far. Camber Sands(3), Minehead(2), LA(1), Catskills(3) & Asbury Park(1). I've had an amazing time at every single one. That being said, I have to say that i am a little hesitant this time around. Some reasons:

1) The sound in the larger room is the worst sound in any room at any ATP event I have ever been to. Portishead were the only band to actually sound good in it. The larger drawing acts will be playing in this room and I don't want to see bands that I love flounder in that kind of environment.

2) WAY too many cops. The scene is not nearly as chill as other ATP events. Last year it seemed like they were taking an overly aggressive stance and at times made the environment pretty hostile.

3) It did not feel like a festival was happening. The communal feel of the previous ATPs was difficult to find. If you were just walking around you probably would not even know a music festival was happening.

4)The Asbury Lanes shows were very difficult to get into. And once you got in, it was very difficult to find a spot that had good sight lines.

On the other hand:

1) The hotel rooms were very nice.

2) Being near the beach is always cool (even if it does close early)

3) The smaller seated venue is gorgeous and sounds amazing.

4) No lines for anything.

I don't think any of the problems are incurable. ATP always has been about the music first, so I'm confident that many of the issues mentioned will be addressed. I'm just going to wait to see the full lineup to make my decision.

Posted by HalfChemical | February 24, 2012 11:33 AM

"remember last year's line up switcheroo shenanigans?"

You mean how Mogwai cancelled and nothing really changed that much? Yeah man, a real need to harp on that a year later. Nerd

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 11:36 AM

Afghan Whigs are the transitional creature that links sausages to hipsters. Afghan Whigs are the bridge between species. There will be peace in Asbury Park once again, and if there why not everywhere?

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 11:36 AM

HalfChemical, the only thing you had about right in your comments was about the sound in the Convention Hall. Sound in convention hall pretty much sucks but if you get up front which is very easy to do, then it is actually ok.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 11:39 AM

LL Cool J will be playing Walking With A Panther in it's entirety, followed by Boys 2 Men / Backstreet Boys new supergroup "Fags"

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 11:39 AM

11:33, those are all reasonable criticisms. I'm jumping onboard now, but part of it is with the hope that those things are taken care of. I had a blast last year, but Asbury was definitely a huge downgrade from Kutchers.

I'm sort of bummed that the lineup is leaning a little more trendy/mainstream this year, but you can only cry so long about a festival that loses money making a couple concessions to the sort of low-tier BV commenters that ATP is largely free-of. Still the only festival in America worth attending.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 11:39 AM

11:33 - I agree, but they said they read and took all feedback into account from last year. I'm sure they'll have a lot of kinks worked out

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 11:39 AM

Police were not bad. Asbury Lanes was not hard to get into at all. If you showed up 2 seconds before the band went on then yeah you had trouble. Space out your time accordingly and it was not a problem. Sight Lines were fine if you know how to move around and through people. Be proactive. I got into every show i wanted to see last year

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 11:40 AM

Sound up front at any venue anywhere is good. Arrive early.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 11:42 AM

I noticed that Sigur Ros are touring again in late August/early September. Would be cool if they stopped by here.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 11:46 AM

the guy writing all the long angry responses to criticism has no life

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 11:47 AM

I've been to every ATP so far. In fact, I own ATP. And I'm here to tell you that this lineup looks like an extreme snoozer. Get ready to relive that year when you liked The Make-Up and both you and The Make-Up got sick of their act. Get ready to wish the Afghan Whigs were as good as any of their SubPop peers all over again!

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 11:48 AM

11:47 - pls explain

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 11:48 AM

11:47,
There is only 1 long response in this thread so far and the guy does not seem angry at all. Maybe it is you who has no life?

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 11:49 AM

I scratched "A T P" on the cave wall when we were enjoying the remains of the brontosaurus one night back oh about 10,000 years ago. You fucks all owe me back royalties, but that's besides the point. What I really want to say is that the AFGHAN WHIGS BABY!! WHOO HOOO!

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 11:50 AM

"You mean how Mogwai cancelled and nothing really changed that much? Yeah man, a real need to harp on that a year later. Nerd"

I'm not the original commenter you just called a "nerd," but I assume they are referring to conning everyone into buying Mangum 3 Day Passes, saying it was the only way to see him, then announcing Mangum was playing again Sunday. Asshole.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 11:51 AM

11:47 = Michael Sosa
Bitching about shit out of his control since 1972

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 11:52 AM

Lineup win, tix purchased ; still hoping for Slayer

Posted by Blag | February 24, 2012 11:52 AM

Mangum's a douche and you are too by association

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 11:52 AM

Zing.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 11:52 AM

11:47 = response to raging douche who starts ranting @ 10:48

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 11:57 AM

Knowing Dulli's love of soul, I'm holding out for a Funk Brothers reunion. Or what's left of them anyway.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 11:57 AM

11:57 - 10:48 doesn't sound angry, he sounds excited. Maybe 11:47 is the angry one. In't dat so, Michael Sosa?!?!?!?

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 11:59 AM

"On the bright side, 90% of the people who comment on BV don't go to these shows - which is precisely the reason it was great last year. No talking during shows, camera phones, drunks, spoiled kids..."

Actually, I think the worst of the BV comment people are exactly who goes to ATP: snarky, hateful overweight people with glasses, 4 men to 1 woman per group.

I was at ATP 2011 - it could have used a lot more drunks and kids - the energy level was that of a bunch of anemics.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 12:02 PM

I'm definitely going to catch at least the Afghan Whigs night. Can't wait to hear Marcy Mays belt out 'My Curse'.

I have tickets for the Slayer/Afghan Whigs (freakin' surreal!) UK ATP. Anyone else headed to that one?

Posted by HalfChemical | February 24, 2012 12:06 PM

Sorry buddy. This really isn't a "anyone else?" type of comment board...IT's more of a "I'm smarter then you, have better taste than you...and you are a dumb cunt" kind of comment board. Sorry. Wrong number.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 12:09 PM

"You mean how Mogwai cancelled and nothing really changed that much? Yeah man, a real need to harp on that a year later. Nerd"

Battles were also changed from the the 'original' Sunday line up to Saturday.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 12:17 PM

This is the drummer for King Nine. Me and my singer will be handing out beatdowns at the front ATP gate on Saturday.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 12:26 PM

Hey check out 12:09 the self appointed spokesman for BV! Self appointed because he's too stupid to realize how much of an ass he made himself to be with such asinine statements like that. You don't speak for "us", mkay bra?

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 12:28 PM

"... a year later. Nerd"

No need for hyperbole, cunt.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 12:32 PM

linsanity is officially over

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 12:39 PM

i think there's an ATPussy Fight a brewin'!! come on tough guys, don't disappoint

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 12:39 PM

Anyone care to guess on the chances of The Make-Up playing a NYC show? One of my all time faves, but I just can't stomach a festival...

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 12:43 PM

I don't understand why people like the ROOTS? They'd be a great backup band for a talented singer, but The ROOTS? What is it about them?

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 12:46 PM

it'd be just like Dulli to reward the true fans by surprise announcing a few big names after the tickets are already onsale. That way the early birds could not get shut out by scalp fucks , etc.

That of course is assuming there are any big names left that Dulli hasn't pissed off over the years.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 12:53 PM

12:39 PM

start holding some coats

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 12:59 PM

lineup is great

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 1:00 PM

Louis alone plays in the city for like $70 a ticket. If you miss this you are just the dumbest shithead on earth

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 1:00 PM

No 1:00, the dumbest shithead on earth is 12:09, the self appointed spokesman for us all.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 1:03 PM

"it'd be just like Dulli to reward the true fans by surprise announcing a few big names after the tickets are already onsale. That way the early birds could not get shut out by scalp fucks , etc."

ATP never sells out Mr. I Know Nothing. There are always tix available. Barring an announcement of Radiohead or The Rolling Stones or Springsteen playing this, it is not selling out.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 1:07 PM

SO MANY DUMB STUPID FUCKS SAYING SHIT THAT THEY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT!!!!! ME SO ANGRY GRRRRRRR!!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 1:16 PM

Lineup is already better than last year! I'm not that into Portishead

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 1:16 PM

@1:07

"Mr. I Know Nothing" - now, was that really necessary? after all, the point being that Dulli has a history of taking care of the fans, and if the scenario being SPECULATED about doesn't line up exactly with your sage knowledge of world events, is there really a need to be a FUCKING DOUCHETROLLFUCK to make your "must. correct. idiots." point? Were you really that deprived of attention as a child? Wait, don't answer that - it was rhetorical.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 1:24 PM

"I'm not that into Portishead"

You are entitled to your own opinion and I am entitled to think your opinion is worthless.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 1:24 PM

I am not 1:16, and I can do without Portished too. Never did anything for me. I think that they are tied to a certain time/place that I was focused on other things during, otherwise I'm sure that I would like them too. For instance, I love Juliana Hatfield, which many don't get. But for me she reminds me of a certain time and place.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 1:26 PM

This line up looks quite promising so far, my only complaint is where are all the great bands I have discovered on BV? Where are Goat Sausage or Trippppple Nipppppppples?

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 1:27 PM

holding out for a surprise showing of KBK's luscious mammalian protuberances.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 1:28 PM

i wish all of you idiots would show up at ATP and have a pussy battle royal.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 1:30 PM

I'll be looking for you, 1:30 ;-)

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 1:31 PM

1:31 - i'm not talkng about a gay hookup. i'm talking about a fight.

Posted by 1:30 | February 24, 2012 1:36 PM

I thought Dulli would pick Agnostic Front or SOA, both were on his list of favorite 10-song 7" EPs in Uncut

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 1:37 PM

Mr I Know Nothing 1:24, instead of worrying so much about me and what I am, maybe you should take more time to worry about yourself and why you are such an idiot. Then maybe you would not get so angry because people would not be correcting you as much.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 1:41 PM

1:36 - a fight, what a great idea. happy to accommodate your request. unless your a pussy that is (my money is on that being true). well son, are you a pussy?

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 1:42 PM

Want to get mugged? Asbury!

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 1:45 PM

@1:41

Well, I'm certainly not angry. You on the other hand, you clearly have issues. I could speculate as to why, but no one really cares (me included). What I do care about is being able to have rational conversation about shit with adults on here. So, why don't you run along little boy until your mommy gets home, and let us big people talk grown up things, mkay? And take your foul attitude with you, it's stinking up the place.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 1:45 PM

is there just one internet tough guy on here who calls everyone 'son' or is that a generic Queens thing?

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 1:46 PM

i'm in boston, and i'd get in my car and happily drive the 4 hours down right now if any of these pussies would either fight each other or me.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 1:49 PM

Hot Snakes is great.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 1:50 PM

Stay in Boston pussy. We're not running a welfare system for you fucks here.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 1:51 PM

why does it bother you so much 1:46? are you a child and you don't want anyone on here to know? are you still getting over being pushed into lockers your whole life? have you tried therapy?

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 1:52 PM

lol mkay? guy wants a fight lol

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 1:53 PM

1:24/1:45, clearly you are angry as your rants reek of it. Funny also that you say I have issues and then you make statements such as this:

"I could speculate as to why, but no one really cares (me included)."

Who do you speak for? I must have missed the day they voted on here and made you the spokesperson for everyone on BrooklynVegan. Sounds like a major God complex you have there.

Again stop worrying so much about me and look to fix your own idiocy.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 1:54 PM

@1:46

So let's get this stright - calling someone an asshat, or pussy, or faggot, or douchenozzle, or Mr I Know Nothing, or DUMB STUPID FUCK, or .. or ... that's all OK and you have no problem with that. But, call someone son, well that's a line you best not cross?

You did take your medication today, right? I mean you're not in full manic mode again, are you? Or maybe you caught your boyfriend sucking off your dad, again, and you just want to take it out on someone?

You do recognize that you have a problem, right? Don't answer - it's rhetorical.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 1:57 PM

1:52 - it bothers me because i think 'son' connotes some sort of love interest deep in the taunter's psyche

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 1:57 PM

Mr Tough Guy is sitting at his desk at his shitty job, shaking with anger

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 1:58 PM

lol refresh refresh refresh lol urhghgh soooo angry lol lol

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 1:59 PM

1:54 = troll fail. Go back to school, SON. You fail!

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 2:00 PM

From ATP staffer: "we're going to improve the convention hall sound, started planning it straight after the last event."

I am confident most issues will be sown up for this ATP.

I am nervous about how the room on-sale will take place, but I locked in today.

ATP is still the best festival experience I ever had, so I am confident for this year as well.

See yall in Asbury.

For ATP promoters: If you are bringing Dirty 3, then please book the Laughing Clowns...far too long we been deprived of decent Aussie music.

I don't expect The Make-Up to be the headliner for Sunday. Someone else will be announced. SLAYER for Friday?

Today mark the official death date of ATP.
Last year was the end of ATP as we knew it, but this line up is a death kiss.
All those "still best festival experience" obviously never been to the catskills...

Prediction: passes will fall below half face value, waste of money to buy it on line.

P.S. So now ATP finally admit my claim from day one that asbury park's sound was way below the standard set at the catskills!

The only way to use this site any more is to just read the posting heading and avoid the comments entirely. 99% of the comments in this posting so clearly illustrate what a waste of time this site has become for anything but high level info like dates, passcodes, and the like.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 6:54 PM

5:53 I'm sure that people who went for the first time last year might think it's the best festival. may they never know what they missed in NY...

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2012 10:27 PM

ATP AP > Catskills .... and ive been to both.

"All those "still best festival experience" obviously never been to the catskills..."

You're right, I never went to the Catskills. Last year at Asbury was my first ATP and I had a great time. Today, I bought my tix for this year and I can't wait to see the final lineup as I'm sure it will be amazing. ATP has NEVER unleashed a sub-par billing. Yes, I can see how Kutcher's would've been more fun but since I wasn't there, I have nothing to base it on. Sorry you're so jaded and refuse to move on with your life. I've been to over a thousand shows in my life and I can say one thing, times change...deal with it and adapt or forever live in disappointment.

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2012 12:01 AM

Catskills is wildly overrated in hindsight. Kutchers had a great main stage and a dogshit conference room second stage with awful sight lines and sub par sound.

Asbury has an amazing 2nd stage and a main stage with crap sound but good sightlines. They claim they are working on the sound for this year (and they probably can do better since Portishead's sound guys were able to figure it out). But even if they can't, its a pretty even trade off between the locations.

You have 1 full day announced and about 1/3 of another day. There are still 2 headliners to come. I don't get the outrage.

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2012 1:24 AM

The initial lineup looks pretty good so far. ATP needs to add a couple more solid acts on Sunday to make it a great festival. Mostly, I'm hoping there will be a standout headliner on Sunday night to close things out. I went Saturday and Sunday last year and had an excellent weekend - Portishead was great. I'll most likely go again this year, but probably will wait to purchase tickets until the next announcement to get a better picture of what the Friday and Sunday lineups looks like. If they add a headliner for Sunday, and good acts on Friday, I'll probably get a 3 day pass this time. if not, 1 or 2 days passes will be enough for me.

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2012 10:50 AM

The initial lineup looks pretty lame.

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2012 11:07 AM

That's just the initial line up. Some good bands will be added soon.

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2012 11:25 AM

Afghan Whigs are pretty far from lame.

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2012 11:32 AM

There are a lot of blacks in Asbury. Will they go to ATP?

The crazy left wingers were the ones that tried to prevent the poor children of color from attending desegregated schools. They threw things and shouted epithets, at children. Crazy left wingers have always despised people of color.

Historical fact.

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2012 11:57 AM

This initial line up is pretty weak outside of dirty three and the magic band... Louie. Nothing that will punch jersey in the mouth like swans last year or earth, ribot, foetus, cluster etc... I wasn't there to see portishead it was quite frankly pretty fucking boring. I was really hoping for some of the bands of the uk line up... melvins, sleep, slayer... something to wake up the pretty subdued crowd, bring out some people who want to party not the man purse crowd... Should have gone to roadburn.

Posted by Anonymous | February 26, 2012 11:37 AM

Boring

Afghan Whigs can't fill up that gymnasium. Glad they reduced the ticket price by $50
