ATP

From ATP:

Our initial estimate for going on-sale with I'll Be Your Mirror New Jersey was early-mid January, and we'd like to thank you for your patience during the slightly longer than expected waiting period.

We can now confirm tickets will go on sale and the start of the line-up will be announced next week.

In unrelated, but related news, did you know that a restaurant called Kutsher's opened in Tribeca?

Aphex Twin, The Avalanches, and Mogwai...

I'm buying tickets regardless of the lineup, but if even two of 10:08's theories come to fruition, these become a must-buy.

Posted by Anonymous | February 1, 2012 10:09 AM

Price??

Posted by Anonymous | February 1, 2012 10:22 AM

The ast few years tickets were about $220 for a 3-day pass, WITHOUT accommodation. ATP festivals are fun, but last year at Asbury Park was a totally different vibe from Kutsher's. I think I'm skipping it this year as I'm not an Afghan Whig/G.Dulli fan.

Posted by kickerofelves | February 1, 2012 10:29 AM

Last year was around $300 for the 3-day weekend pass and around $90-100 for a single-day pass. I know it sounds pricey but if you can afford to go, DO IT! Such a great time last year.

Posted by Anonymous | February 1, 2012 10:29 AM

^thanks

Posted by Anonymous | February 1, 2012 10:29 AM

$220? I think it was closer to $300. Maybe your memory is better than mine. Either way, it was totally worth it. Can't wait to see the lineup!

Posted by Anonymous | February 1, 2012 10:32 AM

@10:29

I would agree that Asbury Park had a different (and inferior) vibe, but that had to do with the venue, not the crowd. In all, I'd take last year's crowd over the people that showed up for Iggy the year prior, and were otherwise insufferable.

From booing the rappers, to moshing during Explosions in the sky, there were some dumb fucking people in 2010 who only showed up for punk.

Posted by Anonymous | February 1, 2012 10:33 AM

I'm not a Dulli/ Afghan Whigs fan either but I'm sure the rest of the lineup will more than make up for it. Dulli is curating Saturday, ATP will curate Friday and Sunday. This lineup will not disappoint....it never does!

Bands I'm speculating could be at ATP Asbury Park:

Mogwai
Mark Lanegan Band
Gutter Twins
Pulp
Mazzy Star
Spiritualized
Stone Roses
Caribou
Sleep
Boris
Tim Hecker
Dirty Three
??????????????????????

Posted by Anonymous | February 1, 2012 10:39 AM

and do they sell individual day tickets???

Posted by Anonymous | February 1, 2012 10:39 AM

^whops I see single day tickets sold...usually that is a while after the three day passes, right?

Posted by Anonymous | February 1, 2012 10:40 AM

last year's ATP was possibly the best concert going experience I ever had. everyone was so chill, you could literally get to the front of the stage minutes before each set, and the lineup was awesome.

Posted by Anonymous | February 1, 2012 10:41 AM

The crowd sucked at times in 2010, but crowds can suck anywhere for anything. That place was just so cool that you never wanted to go home.
NJ is a tougher sell, and the coverage from last year didn't make it look like half as much fun as NY.

Posted by Anonymous | February 1, 2012 10:45 AM

10:39 - Right, if they could get The Stone Roses they would be curating, not as a guest of the Afgahn Whigs.

Posted by Anonymous | February 1, 2012 10:53 AM

10:53 - Afghan Whigs is playing Saturday night. They still need a headliner to close out the fest on Sunday night. Gotta be someone big. Stone Roses are reuiniting this year. Maybe just wishful thinking but you never know until it's announced.

Posted by Anonymous | February 1, 2012 10:57 AM

I love the Stone Roses but that would kind of make ATP not be ATP

Posted by Anonymous | February 1, 2012 10:58 AM

The biggest band is not always the curator. Do you honestly think Mogwai is more popular than Slayer? I like Mogwai much more but Slayer is obviously the bigger act on the bill

Posted by Anonymous | February 1, 2012 10:59 AM

They don't have the money for The Stone Roses.

Posted by Anonymous | February 1, 2012 11:02 AM

I think the Stone Roses are more likely to headline Lolla

Posted by Dan | February 1, 2012 11:10 AM

I think Stone Roses are huge in Europe but not as much as a big ticket item here..I mean really did the Stone Roses have any impact on the American music Scene..I like them but this is a serious question.

Posted by Anonymous | February 1, 2012 11:15 AM

Impact on the American scene doesn't matter. Pulp didn't have a huge impact on the American music scene and we all saw how that went.

Posted by Anonymous | February 1, 2012 11:38 AM

"Pulp didn't have a huge impact on the American music scene and we all saw how that went."

Not on the scene, but on enough music fans to generate a passionate crowd over the years since they last played here.

Posted by Anonymous | February 1, 2012 11:42 AM

^Maybe so...but that stuff wouldn't sell outside of NY/NJ , Chicago and LA

Posted by Anonymous | February 1, 2012 11:50 AM

Blur should play ATP!

Posted by Anonymous | February 1, 2012 11:52 AM

Like I said, impact on american music doesn't matter. They still have a big enough fan base to be a "high ticket item". The Stone Roses haven't played New York since 1994, so there would be a lot of people who want to see them.

Posted by Anonymous | February 1, 2012 11:53 AM

Just checked my conf e-mail from last year's ATP IBYM NJ, tickets were $245 for the 3 day pass.

Posted by kickerofelves | February 1, 2012 11:53 AM

I think the head booker did an interview last year where he explicitly mentioned that he never wanted to get britpop bands back together, and took a shot at Blur. While I really enjoy them, I doubt it'll happen.

Posted by Anonymous | February 1, 2012 11:56 AM

Mogwai hates Blur. Blur will NEVER play ATP.

Posted by Anonymous | February 1, 2012 11:58 AM

If you ever got to see mogwai play a small club in front of 30 people back in the day, their pitchfork-manufactured importance is even more perplexing. you could put ANYONE up on a big stage playing that music and it would sound the same. blur, not so much.

Posted by Anonymous | February 1, 2012 12:23 PM

Mogwai are shite..Blur all the way!

Posted by Anonymous | February 1, 2012 12:23 PM

2011 was great. Can't blame them for adjusting to a completely different environment the first go-round. This year tickets will include accommodation, so I am sure prices may vary. Last year Sunday was empty because most NY single-day people came Saturday to see Portishead...I am sure they realized their mistake and will ensure Sunday has a big name closer, otherwise they will have a repeat of last year.

Can't wait to see the line-up.

Posted by Anonymous | February 1, 2012 12:30 PM

"Asbury is a dump."

Point? Are you going there to listen to music or write an editorial about city's infrastructure? Don't be a moron your entire life!

Posted by Anonymous | February 1, 2012 1:12 PM

Asbury might have poor infrastructure, but I did manage to find a really spectacular hummus shack down on 5th street.

Posted by Anonymous | February 1, 2012 1:19 PM

re:asbury is a dump. yes it sucks that asbury has a bowling alley w/ all ages punk shows every week, a good surf break, porta national park for pizza, a boardwalk, big rooms for big shows, history, victorian architecture, committed locals. in 15 years you'll be pretending you were all about asbury right now, when its climbing back.

Posted by Anonymous | February 1, 2012 1:19 PM

Why did they switch from upstate NY to NJ?

Posted by Anonymous | February 1, 2012 1:23 PM

No longer at Kutsher's because ATP gave them money for new mattresses and they just took the money and made no improvements.

Posted by Anonymous | February 1, 2012 1:25 PM

I would pay money if they made Tim and Eric the curators. I think we should start a petition.

Posted by Really? | February 1, 2012 3:54 PM

Asbury has been a dump for 40 years. Come to the shore, pay $300 and get mugged on your way to the show. Nice.

Posted by Anonymous | February 1, 2012 10:18 PM

Asbury Park has its virtues.

Posted by Anonymous | February 1, 2012 10:49 PM

Your not getting mugged in Asbury anywhere near the festival. I had a great time last year enthough it was different than Kutsher's.

However, having the headliner play both nights was dumb. Secondly, if they are going to have Mogwai play they better have a backup plan those boys are not trustworthy of showing up.

absolutely. i had never been to Asbury before ATP and I loved it! the bowling alley, the local bars, the boardwalk all had their run-down charm. the locals when I spoke to them at the bars on thursday nite were so excited and enthusiastic about the festival and the attendants presence I really felt at home there.

Posted by Anonymous | February 2, 2012 9:11 AM

haha who do you think Tim and Eric would pick to headline? That would be awesome

Posted by Anonymous | February 2, 2012 9:31 AM

Afghan Whigs were probably one of the best, underrated live acts of the 90's. Glad to see them back.
