Porcell of BOLD on stage with Youth of Today (more by Jason House)
Porcell

NYHC greats BOLD will apparently reform to play Lit Lounge tomorrow night (2/29) as part of a showcase that will also feature "Navegante (Electronic/Funk), Young Gliss (Hip Hop/ Rock), Meridian (New Age Rhythm Blues), ZAKEE (Alternative/Soul/Hip Hop), and The Better Letters (Rockabilly/Pop/Funk)." Interesting. BOLD 2012 is reportedly their original lineup, with "Zulu, Matt, Drew, Tim and Porcell" all on board. Check out the flyer below.

With the NYC show that makes three total Bold dates, with the second and third being the now-sold-out Revelation Anniversary Shows on 6/8 - 6/10 in California (Bold plays the first two).

In related news, Youth of Today will play Black & Blue Bowl at Webster Hall this year and Punk Rock Bowling. Full Punk Rock Bowling lineup, NYC show flyer and some BOLD video, below....

Umm...Linsanity returns on Wednesday. Do you think anyone is going to come out to see this crap, knowing that J Lin is back in action?

I was kind of hoping that Zekee, Young Gliss, Navagante, and The Better Letters were code name for Youth of Today, Gorilla Biscuits, and Sick of It All. No such luck. Good news- it's a $6 show.

damn..I was hoping for Crippled Youth

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 5:23 PM

like 4:18 said, who?

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 5:28 PM

i don't ever recall Porcelly being an original member of Bold ... and a straight edge band playing Lit lounge is a foul ball ethically to me especially an overpriced hipster bar.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 6:25 PM

625? overpriced? lit is probably the last decent rock bar in manhattan. and its priced well for the neighborhood.

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2012 6:58 PM

And a 21+ place at that. Lit Lounge blows about as much as duffs.

Posted by Lucas | February 29, 2012 12:00 AM

I like Bold, but 12 AM has a good point. It's kind of ridiculous for a straight edge youth crew band ( a lot of who's audience is probably still "youth") to be playing a 21+ show.

Posted by Anonymous | February 29, 2012 2:13 AM

Bold reunion for the third or fourth time? Hang it up already. NONE of you guys are even straightedge anymore. And real cool you're playing a show which shuts out kids/people under 21, people who you were once. Dicks.

Posted by D | February 29, 2012 2:16 AM

I'd love to see Drew and Zulu in Bold again. Porcell added for extra crunch. It is weird that they're playing this show tho.

Posted by Anonymous | February 29, 2012 6:00 AM

even stranger--- this is an MTV sponsored show? http://voices.mtv.co.uk/2012/02/when-worlds-collide/

"And a 21+ place at that. Lit Lounge blows about as much as duffs."

I agree Lit Lounge blows, but what is it abouot Duff's that sucks?

Youth Of Today and Bold can eat dicks and get lost. YOT's show was done by people with absolutely no connection to or care for the NYHC/hardcore scene, or care about young people being able to attend shows which is vital to the life of underground music, as much as who knows how many of you hate, dislike, or give two shits about "the kids". Ditto for tonight's Bold show. Neither band had the balls to "take a stand" and say "all ages or no dice". 'Guess $$$ from Converse (YOT) and coverage by MTV (Bold) kept them from growing sacs.

The more kids/people under 21 you shut out from attending live music shows, the less of them will pick up instruments and create music. NYC is a prime example, NYHC Exhibit A. NYHC is nothing but 1980s bands now (ridiculous) and ALL of them are shadows of their first time around (FTA, new acronym I invented, use it :) incarnations. I know cuz I saw them all FTA. Name ONE hardcore punk, metal, or whatever band made up of highschool-aged kids born and raised in NYC existing today. I can't. I can't even name a NYHC band with a vocalist under 36 years old.

If all live music shows in '80s NYC were 21+, underground music from 1980 on as we know it would have never existed if at all, and none of us would be posting about anything on here. 'Kind of hard to post on here when there'd be no Brooklyn Vegan, either. Or it would've been even more underground than it was and you can't get more underground than the '80s haha.

For a second I thought Worlds Collide was playing.

Posted by Anonymous | February 29, 2012 4:55 PM

There are lot's of punk and hardcore bands in NYC right now. We have shows in our apartment and the apartment down the hall all the time with lots of younger kids showing up. I guess you have to look beyond the LES and go to Brooklyn to find it.

Posted by Anonymous | February 29, 2012 5:12 PM

If you had actually checked out the review for the YOT show, you would've realized that they booked a second DIY show after they found out the corporate one wasn't all ages.

You also would've know that if you'd gone. You would've had a good time like everyone else.

Posted by Anonymous | February 29, 2012 6:32 PM

Yeah, they booked a second all ages show last minute in a too small place just to say they didn't just play a 21+ show and so they wouldn't catch shit for playing just a 21+ show, right. That still doesn't change the fact that they excluded the real youth of today from seeing them at Santos. By playing last minute in a too small place they actually excluded even more people.

I wouldn't have gone because I don't support a full of shit band that's all about the money and sings about straightedge when one member is an edgebreaker (Ken Olden) and another is a round-two edgeman (Porcell - round-two means edge after breaking it.)

I'm not talking about just the LES or even the LES at all as NYHC did not come from the LES, it just played there mostly, I'm talking all five boroughs, Brooklyn included.

Name ONE hardcore punk band made up of people up to age say 22 actually from the city, not ones who move to NYC for school, to live here with a low rent share, or to pretend they're homeless or a squatter until the weather gets cold.

I'm also talking about NYHC which your "shows" at 538 have had and want nothing to do with, and aren't even advertised.

Posted by D | February 29, 2012 6:50 PM

Yawn. If Victory Records doesn't care about straightedge anymore, why should anyone?

7:05pm

I don't care about straightedge, I'm just calling out straightedge bands who sing about being "Nailed To The X" (Bold) and "Take A Stand"(YOT) but drink alcohol and play 21+ shows (both.)

"Name ONE hardcore punk band made up of people up to age say 22 actually from the city, not ones who move to NYC for school, to live here with a low rent share, or to pretend they're homeless or a squatter until the weather gets cold."

There probably is not 1!
But, there are newer HC bands in NYC from people who are real NY'ers like The Last Stand, Abject, Live Fast Die Fast.

Posted by Anonymous | February 29, 2012 8:22 PM

8:22pm

There probably is not 1? There isn't one. That's my point. NYHC is devoid of youth.

I know about the bands you listed (btw Live Fast Die Fast is from LI which isn't NYC), they're not what I'm talking about here. NYHC has no NYC youth bands-wise.

Tomorrow, I'll be a Round 9,436 Edgeman between the hours of whenever I wake up and any time between, probably 3 PM or so, AND PROUD! xXx

Posted by Anonymous | February 29, 2012 11:36 PM

Duff's sucks due to the hype regarding a dark, shitty metal bar. I rather have a house party with friends and drink there...

Posted by Lucas | March 1, 2012 4:07 AM

do i count as an edgeman if i only smoke when i do rails or drink?

Posted by Anonymous | March 1, 2012 10:46 AM

So how was it playing to no more than 30 paid people over 21+?

Ridiculous your NY show to celebrate 25 years of Revelation Records wasn't all ages and a full hardcore show, but then again you ditched hardcore in '89 like YOT and 99% of your friends from back then, so I'm not surprised.

Did you drink beer before and/or after playing "Clear"?

Posted by D | March 2, 2012 5:03 PM

6:32

Hold up.

"If you had actually checked out the review for the YOT show, you would've realized that they booked a second DIY show after they found out the corporate one wasn't all ages."

So they confirmed to play the corporate show without knowing if it was all ages. Of course they did - $$$$$$$. If you want to play all ages shows only / don't want to shut out anyone because of their age, why would you confirm to play a show before knowing if it's all ages? $$$$$$$

"Yawn" and yet you posted to reply to I guess me???

Fuck Victory Records and fuck you for bringing them up like they mean anything to straightedge other than I guess they put out records by the biggest dicks to have ever claimed straightedge (Earth Crisis who I believe once played a tour sponsored by Budweiser LOL.)

Get some new jokes.

Posted by D | March 8, 2012 2:45 AM

an I guess they put out records by the biggest dicks to have ever claimed straightedge (Earthsd

You guys are a whiny sniveling bunch of twats. These guys are like 40+ living in the past. They played a show for 6 bucks so NOBODY fucking got paid. It was a pure ego thing.

Also nobody is straight edge then or now. It's a subculture, just like real skins, but just an anti-fashion statement.

Posted by Urban Fool | October 6, 2012 9:39 PM

we need to take a stand and speak out against the bold youth of today who judge our gang and breakdown the walls and confront the antidote to being an abused and crippled youth.
