Milli Vanilli won best new artist in 1990, so this makes sense.

New artist? Dude released his second album in 2011. His first came out in 2007.

I believe Christopher Cross also won this Grammy back in the early 80s.
Posted by Anonymous | February 13, 2012 8:31 AM
For argument sake, Grammys put someone in the best new artist category when they release an album that gives them notoriety amongst the "general public" (not just Pitchfork). So this is why he is nominated despite having an album out in '07. BS yes....completely subjective absolutely, but that is how it works.

I believe the criteria was changed for "Best New Aritst" after Whitney Houston was ruled ineligible for her debut album, since she had been on a Teddy Pendegrast record. To avoid costing themselves that sort of opportunity, they pretty much removed all restritions.

Justin joins some elite company winning the Best New Artist award including Hootie and the Blowfish, Milli Vanilli and the Zac Brown Band.

what's the over under on what he paid for that suit? $105?
Posted by Anonymous | February 13, 2012 9:27 AM
justin only won so grammy folks could "prove" they're not in the pocket, like he accused them of being... further proving how much in the pocket the grammys are.
fuck all this pay_ola! shit... congrats to him, he does good work, but remember, anything here and on other blogs is paid to be in your ears and face.

Wow, man. A Grammy? An ... actual Grammy? I was completely wrong about how much Bon iver sucks. I'll bet this is almost as much of a game changer as winning an AVN award for best double penetration scene by a newcomer.

If he really didn't care he wouldn't have shown up.
Posted by Anonymous | February 13, 2012 10:15 AM

Posted by Darnell | February 13, 2012 12:50 PM
when you watch the grammys, you realize you are not part of the 99%, you are more like the .001%.
Posted by Anonymous | February 13, 2012 1:09 PM
Wisconsin is where it's at.

Justin Vernon is a musical genius and to even compare artists such as Skrillex and Nicki Minaj is outrages.
Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2012 11:16 PM
There are no such thing as new artists. Artists play music for their whole lives so I don't get why you people criticize Justin Vernon for winning. Yes the grammy does not make sense, but then why only criticize Bon Iver for winning. Complain that Skrillex was even nominated.
